In every place, society, country, nation, kingdom or family there is always a rule, it can be for the good of the people, to gain something... while some are to survive. But what if those rules were broken or you disobey them, you might scolded by parents, punished for your actions or other stuff like that... But sometimes, you know that the rule being disobeyed can't leave a room for scolding.
Today was just like another normal day, the birds were chirping, kids were playing, people bargaining and doing adult stuff... Peaceful.
"Riven, come downstairs, breakfast is ready!"
My mom shouted.
"Oh shoot I haven't gotten ready yet"
I rushed into my uniform and carried my bags downstairs..
THUD!!
SLAM
I hit my head on the table, my mother looked at me and smiled and then said
"IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE LATE GET UP!"
"Hey, no motherly love here?"
She pecked me on my head softly
"Okay, gotta go Mom."
"Do you really need to go to work after school? We could watch a movie and..."
She said looking worried, I smiled at her softly and she smiled too.
"Remember the curfew, be back on time okay?"
"I'll be back Mom before time, okay? Bye"
I said and left.
As I walked along the streets, I saw kids playing and a normal thing here... A dead body, I quickly pushed it near the Bushes and continued walking.
"Hey Riven!"
"Yo, dude!"
My two class mates; Ling and Jing, they also workwith me at my after school job.
"You ready today?"
Jing asked while poking me
"What? Another midnight party at your house, you know I can't."
"You're such a buzz kill, just stay at my house in the afternoon before night and leave the next morning."
Jing said while Ling got behind him and nodded like a funky freak.
" My Mom worried so I can't, maybe another time."
Starching my head softly
"Fine, Mama's boy."
Ling said and the two laughing in sync.
We arrive to school just in time, the students were noisy as usual.
"Riven, do you prefer chicken or fish?"
Ling asked, but before I could answer
"Oh definitely the fish..."
As they continued arguing I noticed a certain girl in my class
"Ha hori, the new girl, you interested?"
Ling asked cunningly smiling at her. She looks at me for a moment.
"She'll be at the party."
Jing said while both smile at me, but before I could have another thought.
"Settle down everyone"
The teacher came in and we all sat down.
After school, we went to work and wore our uniforms.
"Aah! You're just in time now get to work."
Said my Boss Mr. Boon.
We got right to it as usual, Jing took the peoples order and outer deliveries, Ling cleaned the toilet and the tables while I did the hefty work... Carrying the products and packages. I was carrying one of the boxes into the store and then someone tapped me.
"The Boss is calling you."
I looked and saw it was the Boss's P.A ; Johnny, I left and was going.
"Hey!, Where you going Riven?"
Jing shouted while grabbing my hood, he looks and says..
"The boss is dangerous, you should be careful there, he's known for making people lose their jobs and probably lives."
"I don't know why his calling me but I need to go."
As I approached the door, my heart was beating and pounding, the door was dark and looked scary, as I entered... There was only one seat in the middle of a long table, paintings of scary Dead people and the light bulb was only on the spot of the chair.
"Is he the one?"
Mr. Boon said, I looked at who he was talking to and then I saw someone come out of the shadows holding something sharp and pointy. As old as he was he popped out a cigarette and started smoking, a Puff of smoke covered my face, as it cleared I saw the person approach me with the sharp object... I calmly reacted as I closed my eyes.
"PLEASE DON'T KILL ME...!"
The boss laughed but his laughter had an eerie ending, his eyes looked at me although he was very far from me, his eyes looked very clear and Sharp.
The man approached me and it was Johnny... What a sight. He dropped a paper and a pen on my side of the table.
"Sir. Kaelit, well I got some info on how dedicated, hard working and committed you're to this job...."
"... You know this is my best business."
' Business more like businesses. This old guy owns 12+ companies and establishments and a sponsor of many legit places, owns high super markets in many places. He could have had it all, with the AC and others but chose come and be here every single day at this crummy diner, I'm not disrespectful or stupid but you can see that.'
He continues
"How'd you like to get promoted in one of my businesses... The CROW'S HOUSE?"
" The place of busy people and suspicious... I mean hard work 😅."
' It was an opportunity I know but, I've never worked with him or entered his office to start with, and Jing did tell me to be careful. He looks kinda dangerous and I think something could go wrong here'
"All you got to do is sign this paper 📜"
I squinted my eye to see the clock , it was 6:50, I was shocked
" The diner is closed, please leave immediately."
Coming from the speaker. I heard doors shutting, meaning that people are leaving.
" Boss please can we continue this tomorrow ?I promise I'll will be here
even before school starts."
"Why, what's the matter?"
"It's almost curfew time, please sir I need to get home immediately."
As I was walking out, about to reach the door...
CLICK!
The door was locked, and as I turned back and saw that Mr. Boon was holding a gun pointing at me
" No one leaves without an immediate decision, and once you say no... You're life is a No. "
' What the heck does that mean?'
" Besides, I'm giving you an opportunity, to make yourself useful to yourself and useful to your family. Better accept, because I don't see anything special about you, just a boy working for a little rich cash."
He pointed the gun directly at my head, squinted his eyes and asked
"So what will it be?"
' I looked at the time, then at him. I don't wanna die doing suspicious work, I don't wanna die by night... And I really don't wanna die by a crazy hypocrite business man pointing a gun on my head while blowing puffs of smoke.'
" Okay, I accept, please can I go?"
"Sign the papers."
He said while tapping the paper with his gun. I immediately signed the paper and came out. As I ran I heard the Boss's voice in a murmured way.
As I ran I didn't look back, I just startedrunning and running and running, and then I tripped and hurt my knee real bad, I had to get to safety, but there was only a dumpster to hide in, so I hid behind it.
It was cold and really dark, there was no person in sight, every where was quiet, even a pin from a far could be heard. I didn't move a muscle and was even scared of breathing too.

Some of the sounds I heard until..
THUD!
Something had fallen,I thought it was just an object until, I heard it's movement, it was slow, eerie and a little silent. It was crawling and roaring In front of the buildings, I saw the shadow, it looked quite big and spikey.
It started jumping up and down, moving about, I looked to see it but it wasn't there anymore.
' Okay, I think it's gone now, I can make a run for it.'
I heard the crackling sound coming closer to the dumpster. It jumped on top of it, sniffing for something
'Please I don't wanna die, please I don't wanna die!'
Isaid while holding my arms like if I was praying. It was slowly coming down and as I peeped down, I made a run for it. I ran as fast I could and ran faster, but it caught up to me in front and as I turned back one was running this way, I didn't know what to do. The beasts were a little hideous, they both looked human somehow. They were scratching me from head to leg, I was bleeding, it pained me cause I couldn't control my body anymore and that they're so wild as they're scratching me.
They immediately started eating me up, and it felt like I was going to die.
"No, no I can't die like this."
I said in a soft and confused voice. I looked at them and started crying, moaning and groaning
"I never wanted to die, I want to live!"
Then I remembered something, and cried the more as they chewed me up.
"I tried to avoid this and now I'm going to die just like her. No I couldn't stop it and now I'm going to meet the same fate!!!"
I was at my last breath and it was the moment I heard the voice
'RIVEN....'
'NO...'
'AAAAAHHH!!!'
' I would have died anyway, by boss's hands too.'
The beast were to continue eating him but they smelt something, it smelt bad, rotten, and like an electrical object when caught on fire had a smell, the beast couldn't handle it and ran away leaving the remaining parts of the body.
Later two mysterious people on cloaks came and saw the body, they looked at it. Their faces were not shown they were wearing gloves and had some kind of symbol.
"Why would they leave it here?"
One said to the other while looking at it.
"The body's quite intact just some parts of it. They didn't even finish it off well."
The one turned to the other, and said in a low voice
"What if he's the one we need. You know what they said about it."
"How can the one just lay down here for us to find like a stroke of luck, we've searched, killed numerous people, and I'm quite proud of it, we've used our powers, kidnapped and still killed them. It can't just be here.
He said in disbelief and with soft clarified voice
"But what if it had an explanation and ended up here. Just check it, it might be the one.
One said facing towards the dead body
"Let me check, if it is, they would have done something terribly worse to it at least, but only one side look totally concentrated."
As one of the cloaked men touched him, he saw something, he looked up like if there's something in the sky.
"What is it? What did you see?"
The man removed his hand and bent down his head pausing for a moment, looked at the other and said.
"We must take him there now, it can't get wait now, we must hurry!"
The cloaked men carried Riven together and took him away into a dark place....
