Chapter 13 - 012

The homeroom teacher handed out the mandatory subject schedule and major subject forms. We should've been given freedom to choose major subjects, but our homeroom teacher directed us to fill out the form with all major subjects. He said these four subjects are the foundation for the more diverse and specific major subjects in the second year.

I read the details of the mandatory and major subject schedules. This academy uses a credit system. After calculating, actually the combination of mandatory subjects and four major subjects can't be rejected, because the credits will only be fulfilled after taking all those subjects.

If that's the case, why doesn't the academy just write them all as mandatory subjects so we just sign? Could it be they're so lazy to make four different forms for each major, so they just write the list on one form and print it all at once?

"Don't think badly first. What if the academy used to divide it like that, but at one point the quota for each major wasn't balanced?" Vera rejected my idea.

"What do you mean?"

"Didn't you notice why right now the social sciences and law major only has three groups while pure magic has five groups? That means student interest isn't evenly distributed. Could be in the past, this imbalance was more extreme."

"Can it be like that? I thought if you're not accepted in one major, you'd be transferred to another major."

"Impossible. Now if you've been studying magia naturalis since birth and aren't accepted in the pure magic major, then thrown into the spiritual magic major. Do you think they can adapt? Even before that, doesn't it mean that person throws away everything they know and mastered for years just to adjust to the major? That would hurt their principles."

That person doesn't actually need to throw away what they've mastered. However, the core of the argument makes sense.

Effective learning will only start Monday next week. Even so, instructors can visit classes for self-introduction and the subjects they teach. Our homeroom teacher came earliest today. But not for introduction—he did that yesterday—but to coordinate the class.

I glanced at the clock above the blackboard. One minute past ten. I went to the front of the class carrying my form and Vera's.

"Time's up! Turn in your forms!" I called out.

The class rushed to submit their forms.

"Class prez," someone called while handing over their form. "Can you tell the homeroom teacher my name's wrong? My correct name is like what's written on this form. I thought my name on the class division bulletin board was just a typo, but hearing the homeroom teacher also mispronounce my name too, seems like the mistake came from the database."

"Liva Grevin. Alright, I'll pass it on."

"Thanks."

After the crowd dispersed, I counted the number of forms. There are 32 forms, matching the number of students in class SL 1-A.

Then, I left the classroom to submit the forms to the teachers' office.

Upon arriving at the teachers' office, I encountered a figure I didn't want to meet for the next few days. I'm afraid he'll bring up something about bird again.

"Morning, Martha," Prince Alex greeted.

"Good morning, Your Highness."

He looked at the stack of papers I was holding. "So, you're the class president?"

"Well... for several reasons."

The homeroom teacher came to coordinate the class, including appointing a class president. Strangely—or maybe you can guess—because of this morning's incident, the kids in class SL 1-A consider me "safe" as class representative.

What a situation.

Even though I acted like that for personal gain. If I wasn't involved in the rumor, I wouldn't have done anything, even if Vera and Nadisa were involved in problems.

"Were you also appointed as class president?"

"Volunteered."

How eccentric.

"By the way, how's the scholarship girl?" he asked.

"Gloria? She's in a different class from me. She shouldn't have any problems—"

I immediately remembered Gloria's story before winning the duel against Vladilena. Vladilena's influence was so strong that all students didn't dare oppose her bullying. There was even a group of people who sucked up by joining in bullying Gloria.

"Why?"

This is my chance to set up protection for Gloria. Before Vladilena meets her more often later.

"Ahaha... sorry for suddenly stopping. I almost got carried away because Gloria always looks cheerful," I stared at Prince Alex's face closely. "Honestly, I'm worried."

"Worried because she's from the lower class? I understand—"

"Not that! Eh, that's also one of them, though. I mean, I'm worried Miss Vladilena will do something to Gloria."

"What has Lena done to her—"

"'What will Lena do to her'."

"Okay, whatever. What will Lena do to her?"

"...."

I spoke without preparation. Now I'm confused how to explain this. Because from the start, Gloria won't get bullied if she doesn't get close to Prince Alex. However, at the same time, Gloria needs Prince Alex's figure to shine. After thinking again, all of Gloria's connections to the noble world always go through Prince Alex. In other words, Gloria's success is very very influenced by Prince Alex.

"Why?" the Prince asked.

"...I can't explain it. I'm afraid of spreading slander about Miss Vladilena. The point is, please pay more attention to Miss Vladilena. Ah, just consider this as romantic advice from a friend."

"Romantic advice, huh?" The Prince smiled. "Mm. Thank you."

"Well then, excuse me. My homeroom teacher looks like he's been waiting for a while."

"Yes."

I immediately moved away, toward the homeroom teacher. I'm worried this morning's clarification will be in vain if someone catches me chatting with Prince Alex again.

After submitting the forms and notifying about Liva Grevin's name error, I intended to return to class. However, I ran into Nadisa and Vera midway. They intended to follow me to the teachers' office, which was then continued to the library.

I toured the academy when I first came. The library is on the second floor, right above the main hall. The place is neat, clean, and has a faint almond aroma.

"What book are you looking for?" I asked.

"Subject support books," Nadisa answered.

Such diligent people.

That also reminds me that I need to start adjusting. Especially regarding magic. I'm sure Martha's body can use magic. So I just need to learn how to bring it out.

We arrived at the library. Nadisa and Vera immediately headed to the social sciences and magic law shelves, while I looked for the magic practice and research shelf. However, none of the displayed titles seemed to explain the basics of magic.

I walked around again, in the deepest part of the library, there's a shelf categorized as culture. I'm curious how diverse the culture is in a novel's world.

"Philosophy of Dress in Alemane Customs", "Special Rituals of Soverus Emperors", "The Gloomy Tragedy of Polidina Martyrs", "Gods and Goddesses of Hinomoto". Totally random. I can't find the sorting pattern.

I scanned other titles. I found a title "Curse of the Wandering Knight". I hope this is a novel. As soon as I pulled the book, I saw someone's face behind the shelf. She also seemed to realize the book in front of her face was pulled out from the opposite side.

"You... the one from the canteen yesterday, right?" she said.

I really don't want to be remembered by her. However, seems like my small action left an impression on this girl's memory.

"Correct, Your Highness Vladilena."
