Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: The Hidden Stream

The sun hung low in the sky, casting golden reflections across the resort grounds. Yumi wandered near the edge of the forest, drawn by the sound of water trickling somewhere ahead.

"Princess, following the sound of adventure again?" Pherrie's voice came from behind, playful and teasing.

Yumi jumped slightly, then smiled. "I-I'm not following anything… just exploring."

"Uh-huh," he said, stepping closer so that their shoulders brushed. "Exploring… and maybe thinking about me?"

"You're impossible!" she groaned, cheeks heating.

Pherrie chuckled. "And yet, you keep letting me tease you. That must mean something."

Her fingers twitched slightly where his hand brushed hers. "Maybe it doesn't," she murmured.

He smirked. "We'll see about that later."

They pushed through the last line of trees and discovered a hidden stream, the water clear and sparkling, small pebbles lining its edges. Sunlight danced across the surface, making the scene feel magical.

"Found it," Pherrie said, crouching to examine the water. "Perfect for a little game. Whoever finds the smoothest pebble gets to lead the next adventure."

Yumi grinned, crouching beside him. "You're going down, Pherrie!"

For the next hour, they skipped stones, searched for interesting pebbles, and laughed whenever one of them missed a throw or splashed into the water. Their laughter carried across the clearing, mixing with the gentle sounds of the forest.

Even when Kai and Damian arrived, curious about their find, Pherrie stayed subtly close to Yumi, guiding her and keeping their adventures lighthearted and safe.

By the time they left the hidden stream, their hands were full of smooth pebbles and wildflowers, their cheeks flushed from laughter and play.

Yumi looked at Pherrie, smiling softly. "This is perfect."

"The best adventures," he replied, brushing a stray hair from her face, "are the ones we discover together."

Hand in hand, they walked back toward the resort, the golden sunlight fading gently, leaving them with another joyful, safe, and playful summer memory.
