Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: The Unlucky Yoshino Family

The Yoshino family sat in their living room, all wearing ugly expressions.

"Damn it! Bastard! Piece of trash!"

Every kind of filthy curse poured out of Yoshino's brat.

"Alright, alright, sweetheart, calm down."

Mrs. Yoshino poured a cup of water, her face full of indulgent doting.

"I don't want it!"

The boy slapped the cup over.

"I want cola!"

"Shut up!" Mr. Yoshino roared.

"What are you yelling for, you useless man! Why are you taking it out on a child?"

The moment Mrs. Yoshino snapped at him, Mr. Yoshino immediately lost his temper and shrank back.

Just then, his phone lit up with a message from Kameda Taro.

"Kameda sent a message!"

Mr. Yoshino read it carefully once, then his face lit up with wild joy.

"Hahaha! Kameda wants us to go to that foreigner's place tonight and take his food! Kameda said the foreigner hid all his supplies!"

Mrs. Yoshino frowned.

"How does he know the foreigner hid it?"

"He said before the apocalypse, he saw that foreigner hauling a ton of stuff into his apartment. And I think that guy definitely hid food too. Otherwise, he wouldn't have acted so smug earlier."

"So what do we do? Go tonight?"

"Of course. I'll ambush him tonight."

Mr. Yoshino gave a vicious grin.

He was going to pay back every bit of humiliation he suffered during the day, with interest.

"You idiot. Breaking in at night is just asking to die."

Mrs. Yoshino scolded him.

"Who said anything about the front door? I'm going over from the balcony."

Mr. Yoshino spoke with absolute confidence.

"From the balcony? Good idea."

Mrs. Yoshino smiled.

Their balcony was not far from Natsuki Yuu's. They were one floor above him. All they had to do was climb down.

"Heh. Leave it to me. Tonight, I'll make sure you all get something good to eat."

Near midnight.

The Yoshino family crept onto their balcony like thieves.

"Keep it down. Don't wake anyone."

"Relax. I know what I'm doing."

Mr. Yoshino tugged at the bed sheets tied together, checking that they were firm.

"You two stay here and cover me. I'm going over."

He tied a tight knot.

"Good luck. Bring food back and I'll reward you."

Mrs. Yoshino struck a flirtatious pose.

Mr. Yoshino's eyes brightened instantly.

"Here I go!"

He climbed down carefully.

Below him were blood corpses, and in truth, he was shaking with nerves.

But for food, he was willing to gamble.

Little by little, he descended. He could see the zombies swaying and gathering beneath him, and not far away, Natsuki Yuu's balcony.

He grit his teeth.

"I'm doing this!"

He took a deep breath and was just about to leap over.

"Hello!"

A voice rang out.

Mr. Yoshino jerked so hard he nearly lost his grip and fell.

"Huff… huff… thank god, thank god…"

"Thank god what? It's so late, Mr. Yoshino. Why aren't you sleeping? Out here looking for thrills?"

Natsuki Yuu rubbed his eyes.

Getting woken up in the middle of the night was not a pleasant feeling.

He had been resting, but the effect of Serious Justice suddenly triggered, jolting him awake.

When he stepped out to check, it was actually this Yoshino idiot.

"I… I… I…"

Mr. Yoshino was sweating buckets.

He was hanging in midair. If Natsuki Yuu did anything to him, he was finished.

"You big bully! You finally showed up! Hand over the food! Dad, I want roast chicken! Go grab it for me!"

Yoshino's brat suddenly yelled.

"Enough! Shut up!"

Mr. Yoshino's face turned gray with panic.

"Oh, so you came to my place for roast chicken."

Natsuki Yuu smiled brightly.

"Sorry, none left. But I've got other things. Mr. Yoshino, do you want them?"

"What are you doing? Don't come closer!"

Mr. Yoshino screamed.

"Help! Help! Murder! He's killing me!"

Natsuki Yuu stared, speechless. He had not even done anything.

"Wife! Hurry! Pull me up!"

"I know, I know, you useless man."

Mrs. Yoshino shot Natsuki Yuu a glare, then started pulling the sheets.

"No! Dad, beat him to death! Hurry! I want roast chicken, I want cola! Kill him! If you don't, don't come back!"

The brat actually grabbed the sheets and started shaking them hard.

"Now that's a touching father and son moment."

Natsuki Yuu clicked his tongue in amazement.

"Stop shaking! Stop! Aaaah!"

Mr. Yoshino clung to the sheets for dear life.

"It's the middle of the night! What the hell are you screaming about, you lunatics!"

"Are we supposed to sleep or not? Damn it!"

"Oh? Isn't that Mr. Yoshino? What are you doing out there?"

More neighbors got woken up by the commotion.

"Pull me up. Hurry, pull me up!"

Mr. Yoshino's face burned with shame. He only wanted to crawl back into his apartment as fast as possible.

But maybe his hands had gone numb from hanging too long, or maybe his grip simply gave out.

His strength failed.

He fell.

"Aaaah!"

A long, miserable howl.

"Tsk. Lucky guy."

Natsuki Yuu sighed with a helpless smile.

Mr. Yoshino did not fall into the blood corpse pile on the first floor.

Instead, he landed on the rain awning between the first and second floors, snapping his waist on impact.

He could clearly hear the roars of the blood corpses below, but he could not stand up anymore.

"Husband!"

Mrs. Yoshino covered her mouth in shock.

"Save me…"

Mr. Yoshino's voice was faint, barely more than a breath.

Mrs. Yoshino immediately pointed at Natsuki Yuu and barked an order.

"Hurry up and save my husband!"

Natsuki Yuu dug a finger into his ear.

"Huh? What did you say?"

"I said, save my husband!"

She enunciated every word, sharp as knives.

Natsuki Yuu let out a lazy laugh.

"Got it. We'll talk tomorrow."

Then he waved and went back into his room.

Mrs. Yoshino exploded into curses, spewing every filthy insult she could think of, but it did nothing.

If anything, the neighbors started tearing into her.

"Shut up already! Are you trying to keep the whole building awake?"

"Exactly! Your whole family is trash. Sneaking around at night… what, trying to break into someone else's place? You deserve it."

"Everyone better hide your food. The Yoshinos will definitely try to steal it."

After what Natsuki Yuu stirred up during the day, anyone with food was guarding it like their life depended on it.

Mrs. Yoshino's face turned beet red.

Neighbors who used to speak to her softly and carefully now dared to mock her.

Once her younger brother arrived, she would make them all pay.

"Wife… save me…"

Mr. Yoshino was in agony.

"Husband, hold on. My brother is coming soon. He'll save you."

Then she shouted toward the neighbors again.

"Just you wait!"

She dragged the brat back inside and hurriedly called her younger brother.

"Hey! Koji, when are you coming?"

"Soon, soon. Stop rushing me! That Tsukino guy knows the chief, he's not easy to deal with. But don't worry, you'll get your share of the food."

"Koji, it's like this… your brother-in-law, he…"

"Alright, alright. Isn't it just that? I'm busy. More blood corpses are coming. I'm hanging up."

Beep. Beep. Beep.

The call cut off.

Mrs. Yoshino clenched her teeth so hard they almost cracked.

She hurled the phone onto the floor.

Hatred twisted her face.
