Chapter 54 - Chapter 54: Thorns Beneath the Quiet Street

"That bastard…"

Touka knew it well

there was no way Fushimi Kyo had gone out just to meet some woman who admired him.

Something was definitely off.

"Wow, these flowers are so pretty!"

Yoriko exclaimed as she admired the roses nestled inside the flower basket.

At that moment, Touka suddenly stood up.

"Yoriko, I'm full. I'll head out first!"

"Hey, Touka," Yoriko said, fixing her with an unusually perceptive gaze,

"you're going to tail Fushimi-kun again, aren't you?"

"I I who's tailing that guy?!"

Touka's face flushed slightly as she stammered.

"Last time, when Fushimi-kun went on a date with Miss Rize, you followed him once already."

"And now some other woman asks him out, and you suddenly find an excuse to leave?"

"You're definitely planning to follow him again."

"Yoriko, you idiot! I just want to go home early, that's all!"

Having her thoughts exposed so cleanly, Touka was so embarrassed she practically wanted to dig a three-bedroom apartment out of the floor with her toes.

"It's fine, Touka-chan. Go on,"

Yoriko said kindly, clenching her fist in encouragement.

"You need to seize your own happiness."

"When facing competition, you have to charge forward bravely. You can do it!"

Touka was utterly speechless.

She glanced out at the street through the window Fushimi Kyo's figure was already about to disappear.

Panicking, she rushed toward the restaurant exit.

"I'm leaving first, Yoriko! Be careful on your way home…"

...

After leaving the restaurant, Fushimi Kyo hailed a taxi.

About twenty minutes later, he arrived at Ueno Street.

"Hey, kid,"

the taxi driver, a middle-aged man in his forties said with a kind warning.

"This place is pretty remote. If you hadn't paid so well, there's no way I'd have come here."

"You should really watch yourself. The 20th Ward hasn't been peaceful lately."

"Thanks, uncle. I'll be careful,"

Fushimi Kyo replied with a smile.

"Kids these days… really gutsy,"

the driver muttered before driving off.

"Number twelve?"

Ueno Street was only a little over three hundred meters long.

Following the address plates one by one, Fushimi Kyo searched down the street.

Five minutes later

"Heh, found it. So this is Residence No. 12?"

Before him stood a somewhat old two-story house.

Dim light seeped out from within.

After a brief pause, Fushimi Kyo walked toward the front gate.

Ding-dong

He pressed the doorbell politely.

However, several minutes passed, and no one came to open the door.

Just as his patience was wearing thin and he was about to force his way in

The door slowly opened on its own.

Without the slightest hesitation, Fushimi Kyo stepped inside.

After his battle with the One-Eyed Owl, he had absolute confidence in his own strength.

He was certain that even in the most dangerous situation, escaping with his life would not be an issue.

Besides, anyone resorting to tricks like this clearly wasn't all that powerful.

True experts wouldn't bother with such petty schemes they would come knocking directly and end things cleanly.

At the very least, that was how he would do it.

The moment he crossed the gate, the courtyard lamps lit up one by one.

Immediately after, the door of the two-story house creaked open as well.

"Playing ghost tricks?"

A cold glint flashed in Fushimi Kyo's eyes.

He swore that tonight, he would drag out whoever was behind this and teach them the meaning of honest confrontation.

His figure flickered, and in an instant, he arrived at the doorway.

Without hesitation, he stepped inside.
