The roar was deafening, a brutal frequency that seemed to shatter the very foundations of reality.
The iconic Kazekage tower, the hub where every single one of Sunagakure's shinobi and economic plans had always been forged, collapsed in a violent downpour of rubble, stone, twisted steel, and dense sand thick with suffocating dust.
From the very epicenter of the destruction, a nightmare figure emerged. The imposing, heavily armored body of a giant rhinoceros beetle reared up majestically against the night sky.
Its chitinous wings beat with a devastating force, generating hurricane-like gusts of wind that ripped the roofs clean off nearby structures and tainted the atmosphere with a dense, toxic, phosphorescent green glow.
The beast's seven tails, resembling bright, leafy appendages, whipped through the air like lashes of pure energy, releasing a pressure so crushing that the air itself felt heavy as lead.
Chōmei, the Seven-Tails, unleashed a shrill, high-pitched screech—a mixture of an insectoid buzz and a metallic shriek—that pierced the ears of every inhabitant and echoed mournfully across the vast expanse of the desert.
The fuse that Black Zetsu had lit in Sector Five had finally triggered its surface detonation.
Just a few streets away, Daigo and Rasa watched the catastrophe unfold in real-time. The dust from the debris struck their faces with full force, but neither of them dared to blink.
Rasa, his eyes wide with shock at the sheer magnitude of the disaster, clenched his fists so hard his knuckles turned white, while gold dust began to float erratically and nervously all around him.
"What do we do, Daigo?" Rasa asked, his voice strained with a tight urgency that mirrored the latent panic of seeing a Bijuu unleashed inside his own home. "If that thing comes down and attacks the residential center, casualties will be counted by the thousands within minutes. We don't have a defensive line prepared for an attack from inside the village."
Daigo, his gaze fixed on the sky and his mind icy despite the chaos threatening to consume everything, did not hesitate for a single second. The shock of his recent nightmare and the memories of his past life had been buried under the survival instinct of the Sand's military leader.
He knew perfectly well that they could not afford the luxury of unleashing their full destructive power within inhabited areas if they wanted to have a village left to govern the next day.
"Rasa, order all available shinobi forces to immediately halt any attempt at a direct counterattack and focus exclusively on mass evacuation," Daigo commanded, his voice echoing with the unquestionable authority of a Kage who tolerates no arguments. "I want all civilians in the underground bunkers immediately. The tunnel system and the north sector shelters must be opened to their maximum capacity."
"Perfect, but who is going to stop the Seven-Tails? Isn't Arata in the village?" Rasa asked, looking over at Daigo, who shook his head.
"He is on a mission to better control his beast. So, you and I will take care of containing the Seven-Tails long enough to clear the streets. No one else is to approach this quadrant."
The Sand ninjas regrouped on the peripheral rooftops heard the order through their squad captains. Without losing a single instant, the elite units and the ANBU deployed in a blur of blinding speed.
Moving with an impeccable synchronization that reflected months of training under the new regime, the shinobi infiltrated the residential districts. They kicked down doors, carried the elderly on their backs, scooped up children in their arms, and firmly guided the terrified population toward the entrances of the safe shelters that Daigo himself had designed and reinforced underground.
The discipline of Suna shone in the middle of the darkness; there was no room for chaos when the voice of their leader gave them a clear direction.
Daigo began to channel a massive amount of chakra into his legs, leaning his body forward and preparing to leap straight toward the smoking ruins of the tower, when a dry crack and the sound of someone colliding against stone caught his attention.
A slender yet imposing figure landed heavily upon the clay roof, positioning itself right by his side. As the small cloud of dust stirred up by its arrival dissipated, Rasa took a step back, completely astonished, his hand instinctively reaching for his weapon.
Standing before them was the Third Hokage himself, Hiruzen Sarutobi, clad in his traditional battle attire. However, something was profoundly wrong with his appearance. His eyes were blank, completely lacking the spark of life, and his joints showed subtle grooves of hidden weaponry.
It was a human puppet, a lethal masterpiece crafted from the corpse of one of the most powerful men in the shinobi world.
"What... what does this mean? The Third Hokage?" Rasa exclaimed, his logical mind momentarily overwhelmed. He was completely unaware of this ultra-secret project that had been brewing in the darkest workshops of the village. "Daigo, where did this come from?"
Daigo, however, had absolutely no interest in wasting time giving explanations or debating the morality of this puppet in the middle of a disaster-level emergency. He looked directly into the inert eyes of the puppet, knowing perfectly well who was controlling it from afar.
"Is your real body safe and in a secure position, Sasori?" Daigo asked, his tone dry, direct, and showing no trace of surprise.
The jaw of Hiruzen's body moved with a mechanical click, and Sasori's cold, slightly amplified voice resonated through the speaker mechanism hidden within the chest:
"I am in a deeply fortified bunker underground, Daigo. My main workshop is armored with iron plates and isolation seals. There is no risk of the Bijuu's chakra interfering with my connection. Let's leave the questions and surprises for later; that mass of bugs is about to descend, and I highly doubt it's coming to negotiate."
With their makeshift containment team established, Rasa unleashed his gold dust, Daigo expanded his elemental chakra, and Sasori prepared the chakra system of his puppet's body with milimetric precision.
The three Kage-level shinobi launched themselves into the attack simultaneously, leaping into the void toward the crater of destruction, determined to buy every precious second the population needed to vanish beneath the earth.
Daigo was the first to strike to establish a perimeter. Raising his hands toward the sky and crossing his fingers into the Tiger seal, he executed his Kekkei Genkai on a massive scale, illuminating the ruins with a pink glare.
"Shōton: Ondulating Crystal Growth!"
Gigantic stakes, needles, and heavy chains of translucent pink crystal erupted like spears straight from the collapsed ruins of the administrative tower.
The crystalline structures reared up like fangs, intertwining and closing violently around Chōmei's armored legs and lower abdomen. The pink crystal gleamed with a dazzling intensity beneath the moonlight, reflecting the Bijuu's green glow and managing to immobilize the immense beast in the air for a brief instant.
However, the Seven-Tails was no ordinary creature to be held down by the raw force of a conventional jutsu. Enraged by the sudden confinement and driven by the parasitic vibration Zetsu had left in its system, the giant beetle began to flap its transparent wings at a terrifying ultrasonic frequency. The air itself began to visibly warp.
A massive sonic wave, visible as a dome of bright green energy, expanded violently from Chōmei's body. The ultrasonic impact slammed directly into Daigo's towering crystal structures.
The pink crystal, despite its legendary hardness, fractured in a millisecond before exploding into a thousand pieces, turning into a shower of razor-sharp fragments that rained down like deadly hail upon the sand below.
Noticing mid-air that pure crystal would be repeatedly pulverized by the beast's sonic vibrations, Daigo reacted with the speed that only real combat experience grants.
He shifted his strategy mid-fall, temporarily abandoning his Shōton and utilizing his Doton affinity to mold dense pillars of reinforced rock and compacted earth. These pillars erupted from the ground to act as physical shock absorbers, soaking up the direct impacts of the beast's limbs and preventing the wind from its wings from destroying the adjacent houses.
While the center of the village turned into an inferno of rubble and shockwaves, the evacuation order was being executed flawlessly and with commendable military efficiency in the northern periphery.
Pakura sprinted through the streets at top speed, flanked by several medical ninjas and inner section guards. Her primary mission was clear: secure Kimimaro and Daigo's parents. She reached the family compound and guided Daigo's parents toward the fortified entrance of the main bunker in the northern district.
For a brief second as she ran, Pakura brought a hand subtly and protectively toward her stomach. She felt a slight pang of internal warmth, a physical reminder of the pregnancy she carried and of the new life that depended entirely on Sunagakure surviving this night.
A mother's natural fear tried to seep into her mind, but her gaze as a veteran kunoichi, the Hero of the Sand, remained steady and alert, scanning the night sky for falling debris or stray attacks.
In her arms, little Kimimaro watched everything without showing a single trace of the panic consuming the other children of the village. While the adults around him ran in a frenzy, exchanging shouted warnings, the ash-white-haired boy turned his face toward the epicenter of the battle in the heart of Sunagakure.
His curious, analytical green eyes locked with absolute clarity onto the distant silhouette cutting against the horizon. Far off, enveloped in dust clouds illuminated by chakra, Daigo controlled the battlefield with a terrifying majesty.
The Kazekage stood tall, mounted atop an immense stone pillar that shifted according to his will, dodging the giant beetle's lunges and manipulating the very environment of the village to protect the civilians.
For Kimimaro, who was just a toddler of a year and a few months old, it was like watching a movie his father was making just for him. Seeing Daigo use that powerful control as an absolute shield for the weak commanded his entire, undivided attention.
"Kimimaro, don't worry about your papa, he will come back to us," Pakura told him, her voice blending maternal sweetness with military firmness as they stepped inside the underground shelter, just as the heavy hydraulic iron doors began to close with a pneumatic hiss, isolating the civilians from the danger outside.
Back at the epicenter of the conflict, the resistance in the central quadrant was reaching its absolute limit. Chōmei had completely freed itself from the physical restraints and the supplementary stone pillars. Hovering at a low altitude, the beast began to secrete a dense, acidic mist from its chitinous pores; the green chakra visibly began to corrode the stone foundations and exposed pipes of the surrounding buildings, threatening to bring down entire blocks by sheer degradation.
Daigo landed on his feet upon the sandy ground, sliding a few meters before coming to a halt. His breathing was rapid, and cold sweat rolled down his forehead, mixing with the dust of battle.
His analytical mind calculated the variables in a microsecond: if the battle continued inside the residential perimeter for five more minutes, Sunagakure would be reduced to an uninhabitable wasteland, and the infrastructure that had cost so much to raise would be lost forever. He had to get the Seven-Tails out of the village no matter what, by sheer force if necessary.
Closing his eyes for a fraction of a second to block out the noise of the environment, Daigo inhaled a massive amount of oxygen through a deep pulmonary breathing technique, stabilizing the violent flow of his internal energy and forcing open the chakra pathways in his system.
"Sixth Breath of the Seven Heavens!" he exclaimed mentally, activating the Seven Heavens Breaths.
Instantly, a scorched, pure, and dense chakra aura erupted violently from his pores, swirling around him like a constantly expanding torrent of thermodynamic energy.
The air pressure around him shifted, and his veins bulged subtly from the massive spike in blood circulation. His speed, reflexes, and raw physical strength multiplied exponentially in a heartbeat.
Using the collapsed rock pillar behind him as an makeshift trampoline, Daigo propelled himself into the air with a destructive velocity that cracked and cratered the ground beneath his feet, leaving a trail of compressed air in his wake.
He appeared in a split second right above the armored head of the Seven-Tails, bypassing the reaction speed of the giant insect's multiple eyes.
Concentrating all the immense physical strength generated by the Sixth Breath into his right leg, Daigo spun on his axis in mid-air and delivered a truly brutal, titanic downward kick straight into the junction of the beast's upper carapace.
The physical impact was so big that it generated a visible shockwave that swept away dust and debris for kilometers around, shattering the remaining windows left in the district. Chōmei unleashed a sharp shriek of pure pain and surprise; by the sheer weight of the kinetic force of the blow, its immense body was violently hurled from the geometric center of the village, flying through the air like an uncontrollable projectile until it crashed with a tremendous roar against one of the massive, thick fortified stone walls protecting the outer perimeter of Sunagakure.
Rasa and Sasori, two consummate strategists monitoring every movement from their respective positions, did not miss the golden opportunity the Kazekage had handed them on a silver platter.
"Now, Sasori! Don't let it regain its balance!" Rasa shouted, immediately soaring into the air on a dense floating platform composed entirely of his prized gold dust.
Rasa extended both arms forward with open palms, expertly manipulating tons of gold dust that welled up from the sands of the street. The heavy metal partially buried the lower limbs of the rhinoceros beetle, compacting in a matter of seconds into the shapes of immense, high-density gold hammers, anvils, and spears.
These structures slammed repeatedly and with a force of several tons against the beast's abdomen and chest, utilizing the sheer weight of the gold to keep the Bijuu pinned and crushed against the wall structure.
Beside him, the Third Hokage puppet controlled from afar by Sasori floated with a supernatural grace, thanks to the perfect tension of almost invisible chakra threads. Utilizing the astounding versatility that characterized the man known in life as the Professor of Shinobi, the human puppet began to perform a sequence of hand signs at a speed that would have been physically impossible for an ordinary human body.
"Katon: Karyū Endan!" roared Sasori's voice, rigidly modulated through the puppet's chest, unleashing a massive, scorching torrent of deep orange flames.
The fire of the jutsu blended perfectly in mid-air with the framework of Rasa's attack, enveloping the gold dust in an infernal temperature.
The extreme heat began to bake the precious metal to the point of incandescence, creating a prison of molten gold and perpetual flames that sealed Chōmei's escape routes, keeping it under absolute and painful control for a few crucial moments.
However, the tactical advantage would not last forever. Chōmei, enraged at being cornered and humiliated against the edge of the village by mere humans, began to agitate its leafy tails in a frantic rhythm.
A massive amount of dense red and bright blue chakra particles began to converge at an alarming speed right in front of its open mouth, fusing into a hyper-concentrated sphere of energy.
The beast was determined to fire a Bijūdama at point-blank range to obliterate the obstacle ahead, which meant the resulting shockwave would destroy half the village anyway.
Daigo landed heavily right beside Rasa's floating platform and the human puppet of the Third Hokage. The pink aura of the Seven Heavens Breath was still crackling and radiating heat around his shoulders, keeping his physical capabilities at their absolute limit.
"Do not under any circumstances let it finish charging that energy!" Daigo warned, his pink eyes flashing with a cold, calculating fury.
"If that sphere stabilizes, the pressure will destroy the nearby shelters. We have to coordinate a direct attack to break the outer wall and push it out into the open desert right now!"
Understanding the gravity of the situation and the thin line separating victory from total disaster, the three most powerful shinobi on the front lines coordinated their chakra flows to execute a final, definitive, and devastating joint attack.
Rasa concentrated every last available particle of gold in the vicinity, drawing the metal from the defenses to mold a truly massive battering ram that hovered in the air, aiming straight for the monster's chest. Sasori, utilizing the vast elemental repertoire of Hiruzen's puppet, unleashed a massive Doton: Doryūdan, summoning the head of a large earth dragon that began spitting giant mud projectiles wrapped in compacted fire at high speed to erode and destabilize the physical base of the wall holding the beast.
At the same time, Daigo took a step forward, extending both arms with his palms facing his target, unleashing the ultimate technique of his Kekkei Genkai combined with the remaining physical energy of his breath:
"Shōton: Celestial Spear of the Crystal Dragon!"
An immense, majestic dragon composed of thousands of layers of translucent, ultra-dense pink crystal erupted from his hands. The crystal creature surged forward roaring, intertwining in mid-air with Rasa's gold ram and the earth-and-fire projectiles from Sasori's puppet, creating a composite mass of 4 high-density elements that slammed dead-on and mercilessly against the armored chest of the Seven-Tails and the very structure of the city's protective wall.
The combination of Kage-level forces was simply devastating for the area. The impact was so massive that Sunagakure's great reinforced stone wall fractured into a thousand pieces and collapsed entirely with a roar of breaking stone, tearing open a massive breach dozens of meters wide to the outside.
The immense inertia of the joint attack did not stop there; it violently dragged Chōmei's gigantic body out past the village limits. The giant beetle, its Bijūdama dissipated by the massive impact, went flying through the air, rolling noisily across the outer dunes of the open desert, kicking up immense curtains of fine sand far away from the residential areas, the factories, and the civilians who remained safe underground.
Daigo exhaled a long sigh, gradually deactivating the Breath of the Seven Heavens as his chakra flow began to stabilize and his body heat dropped back to normal levels.
He wiped a thread of blood trailing down his lip from the physical exertion and stared intently at the gaping breach in the peripheral wall.
Sunagakure, thanks to their swift action and the sacrifice of its main infrastructure, was safe from internal destruction for the moment; however, the true battle of attrition against the Seven-Tails was only just beginning out in the sea of sand.
"Good job," murmured Sasori's puppet, which stood ready for whatever came next. "But the fun in the desert is just getting started."
"That's right. Rasa, Sasori, I need 5 minutes. Can you hold it off?" Daigo asked, looking at both of them, who nodded in unison.
"Perfect. Don't hold back." With that order, Rasa, along with Hiruzen's human puppet, lunged toward the giant beetle, which was already beginning to rise.
Meanwhile, Daigo, letting out a sigh, dug both bare feet into the sand and, closing his eyes, began to search for the melody.
