We are back with a chapter a every week day, and if we hit the Power Stone goal, there will be an extra one

Two months had been more than enough to radically alter the underground geography and internal rhythm of Sunagakure. Sector Three of the maintenance tunnels, which for decades had been nothing more than a cluster of dark, dusty, and forgotten passageways intended for waste disposal or basic security routing, had been completely transformed into an industrial engine that did not rest for a single second.

The summary of the last few weeks of forced labor was clear, resounding, and highly successful: thanks to the tireless and millimetrically precise modular work of Sunagakure's mechanical puppets and the complex fūinjutsu inscribed by Karinna, the immense reverse-flow boiler network designed by the engineer Yler was now a fully functional reality, transporting water little by little without damaging Sunagakure's foundations.

However, despite Yler's invaluable and gargantuan assistance, his theoretical knowledge, and his flawless blueprints brought all the way from the Land of Snow, the true engineering miracle that allowed this project to exist was owed solely and exclusively to the man who ruled the village from the peak of the tower.

It was Daigo's Crystal Release that prevented the implacable and destructive nature of the desert from swallowing the entire project whole. With his own massive chakra, Daigo had personally coated every single critical junction, structural support pillar, and vaulted ceiling of the caverns with a dense layer of ultra-resistant, translucent crystal that completely shielded the brittle stone and sand of the subsoil.

Daigo and the others provided the theory while Yler handled the pressure designs, but Daigo's Shōton alongside his advanced Doton served as the physical, indomitable pillar supporting the millions of tons of quicksand constantly pressing down from the surface above. Without that crystalline support and condensed stone, the pipes would have buckled and the caves would have collapsed under the weight of the desert within days of starting the excavations.

After a long and grueling day of direct supervision—where he had spent hours channeling his chakra to reinforce the new metallic structures and stabilize the areas of highest hydraulic risk—Daigo finally returned to his main office in the central tower.

The evening sun had already vanished completely beneath the horizon, allowing the dense, cold, and silent twilight of the night to reclaim the village streets and the vast desert surrounding it. Daigo sat behind his oak desk, exhaling a sigh heavy with physical fatigue but with a peaceful mind, seeing that everything was going even better than anticipated.

Suddenly, Daigo's senses alerted him. Five individuals had just arrived right in the center of the office, emerging from the shadows of the corners like true phantoms of the night.

They were the 5 Shadows of the Desert, the Arena's elite squad. At the front of the group stood Kisame, carrying the imposing, massive, and bandaged silhouette of Samehada on his back with a sly, sharp-toothed grin that resembled a shark stalking its prey. Right at his left flank was Baki, maintaining a flawless military posture and firmly holding the legendary sword Nuibari—the Sewing Needle they had claimed for Sunagakure's ranks in past missions. The other three members of the elite team positioned themselves in a perfect semicircle behind them, radiating a dense aura of absolute respect and lethality.

"Mission accomplished, Kazekage-sama," Kisame announced, taking a measured step forward. "We have returned from the Land of Water since you left us in charge of the clan assignment."

Daigo, sitting firmly behind his desk, nodded slightly, crossing his arms over his chest as he observed his best men with an analytical gaze.

"I was expecting you," Daigo replied in a calm, deliberate tone. "Report immediately. Were you able to establish contact with the remnants of the persecuted clans? Was there any response to our offer of asylum?"

Kisame let out a chuckle, causing Daigo to simply shake his head at the laugh of the shark on legs.

"Just as you predicted before we set out, Daigo-sama," Kisame answered. "None of the remaining Kirigakure clans wanted to accept our proposal to join Sunagakure. They are too afraid to move from their hiding spots, traumatized by the Mist's regime, or their absurd pride in belonging to their homeland simply blinds them to reality. They rejected the Sand's offer unanimously."

"It was to be expected," Daigo replied with total calm and serenity, showing not the slightest hint of disappointment on his face. He knew perfectly well the chances were low; at the very least, they had already secured the Yuki and the Kaguya, so he couldn't complain. "You did an excellent job scouting the area with discretion and retreating without raising suspicion or leaving trails for Kirigakure's Hunter-Nin. You may dismiss to rest, b—"

"Wait a second, Kazekage-sama, there is one small extra detail," Baki interrupted, drawing the attention of Daigo, who looked into his pearl-white eyes. "On our way back, while crossing secondary routes, we heard some highly interesting rumors among the smugglers and mercenaries in the markets. Everyone is talking about an exiled, outlawed, and feared clan surviving by a thread in the depths of the Valley of Hell. We thought you might be interested in knowing about their existence."

Daigo opened his eyes a bit wider than before, subtly surprised by the explicit mention of such a specific location. Memories from his past life began to resurface, especially upon hearing the name of that place. The Valley of Hell... the Chinoike Clan. He remembered perfectly having seen something about that clan somewhere—the possessors of an ocular Kekkei Genkai based on blood manipulation, the Ketsuryūgan, whose devastating analytical skills, aptitude for genjutsu, and tragic history of isolation and persecution made them strikingly similar to the Uchiha of the Land of Fire themselves.

A smile of deep, strategic satisfaction slowly stretched across the Kazekage's face, softening the rigidity of his tired features.

"The clan of the Valley of Hell..." Daigo murmured to himself, nodding toward his elite group with renewed interest. "Excellent information, Baki, and the rest of you. You have brought a piece that could change many things on our board. Go rest immediately, and recover all your strength over the next three days. After that, I will send you back to actively seek out that clan and make them a formal integration proposal. Sunagakure has enough space, resources, and power to shelter all those who possess the necessary strength and seek a new beginning in this village."

The 5 Shadows of the Desert made a synchronized, flawless bow, lowering their heads before their leader, and vanished in an absolute blink of chakra and subtle smoke, leaving the office plunged once more into the peaceful silence of midnight.

A couple of hours later, the oil lamps of the main office remained completely extinguished so as not to disturb the building's stillness, and only the cold, silvery, and majestic light of the full moon illuminated the workspace through the immense window. The heavy wooden door opened with a soft, almost imperceptible creak, and Pakura entered the room with slow, confident steps. She had finally shed her military uniform and weapons, wearing only a light, soft, and loose dark purple robe that billowed slightly in the night breeze.

Seeing Daigo leaning back tiredly in his large leather chair, she approached him in absolute silence from behind. With a tender, familiar, and intimate motion, Pakura placed her hands on Daigo's shoulders and began to softly massage the base of his neck, dissolving with firm fingers all the muscular tension accumulated from hours of sitting and signing paperwork.

Daigo closed his eyes for a few moments, fully enjoying the warm, comforting contact of his partner's hands, allowing his breathing to become slower and more relaxed amid the dim light. After a few minutes of soothing silence, Daigo gently took one of Pakura's hands in his, stopping her to guide her toward the front so he could look directly into her eyes.

"Pakura... I wanted to ask for your sincere opinion on a highly important and delicate matter," Daigo said in a soft tone, carrying a quiet seriousness that completely dropped the coldness of the political leader to show himself transparent before the woman he loved. "It's about the Kaguya clan children we brought back and settled with families."

"Yes, of course, about the Kaguya children. As you told me, along with the council, we've been looking for families for them. Everyone should have one by now."

"Almost everyone. There was one specific child left out, a very small infant, who due to various reasons of capacity and compatibility did not get a family," Daigo explained in a calm voice, caressing the back of Pakura's hand with his fingers. "The council is undecided on what to do with him, debating whether to leave him in an orphanage or under the tutelage of a shinobi. But since you are my partner, my life companion, and the person I trust most in this world, your personal opinion matters to me far more than anyone else's in the tower. I've been turning over the idea that the two of us could adopt him completely legally. Have him live with us, in a new residence, under our direct care as if he were truly our own son. What do you really think about that? Are you willing to accept that responsibility by my side?"

Pakura maintained a long, heavy silence for a few moments, standing beside the desk while staring into Daigo's pink eyes under the soft, revealing light of the full moon. Far from showing any hint of annoyance, doubt, or mistrust at the sudden proposal of raising a child from a clan known for its genetic instability and savage temperament, a deeply warm, tender, and almost mysterious smile gradually appeared on her lips. With a slow movement filled with an unusual grace, Pakura delicately placed both of her hands over her own abdomen, gently smoothing the fine fabric of her purple robe.

"I think it's a truly wonderful idea, Dai... and I firmly believe that the destiny of this world has a very curious and timely sense of humor for the two of us," Pakura said with extreme sweetness in her voice, one she rarely displayed in her public persona as the Hero of the Sand.

Daigo arched an eyebrow, subtly intrigued and confused by his partner's enigmatic response. His tactical mind tried to search for the hidden meaning behind her words, without success.

"What exactly do you mean by that, Pakura?" Daigo asked, tilting his head slightly.

Pakura took a small step forward, closing the distance between them. She took Daigo's hands in hers and, with infinite gentleness, guided them downward, placing them firmly yet softly over her own belly, maintaining eye contact the entire time in the dim light of the moonlit office.

"I'm pregnant, Dai," Pakura revealed in a whisper loaded with emotion, her eyes shining with a unique intensity. "I reached exactly two months of gestation this very week. We are going to be parents to our own child. A new member of our bloodline is on the way."

Daigo's brain—that brilliant, privileged mind capable of processing complex war tactics on a large scale, formulating ideas in milliseconds, and coordinating the fate of an entire nation without blinking—froze completely for the first time in his life. His eyes widened in utter astonishment, staring fixedly at the position of his own hands resting on Pakura's flat stomach, and then he raised his gaze to meet the radiant, smiling, and expectant face of his partner. The initial shock lasted barely a second before transforming instantly into a massive, pure, absolute, and overwhelming wave of the most sincere happiness a human being could ever experience on Earth.

Without caring in the slightest about the paperwork piled on the desk, his military rank of Kage, the formalities of the tower, or the immense physical exhaustion accumulated over the past months, Daigo leaped up with impressive agility. He caught Pakura firmly around the waist with both arms and lifted her high into the air, hoisting her off the ground as if she weighed nothing, spinning her around and around in the middle of the circular office, while a clean, booming, completely joyful laugh escaped from deep within his throat, echoing loudly in the stillness of the night.

"I'm going to be a dad!" Daigo exclaimed with overflowing joy, lowering her down slowly after several spins but keeping her held tightly against his chest in a protective, possessive embrace, his pink eyes glowing with a warmth and light that Pakura had never seen in anyone in her entire life. "This is the best news I have ever received in my entire existence, Pakura! We are going to have a child!"

Pakura let out a long, held-in sigh of pure relief, wrapping her arms around Daigo's neck and hiding her face for a moment against his shoulder as she returned the embrace with equal intensity. In the deepest corners of her mind and heart, a small, fearful part of her had been afraid over the last few days that Daigo might view the pregnancy as an untimely complication, a political obstacle, or something negative due to the immense, stressful, and dangerous responsibilities entailed by his current position as Kazekage in an era of such international instability. Seeing him react and celebrate the news with such purity, devotion, and absolute happiness swept away every single one of her inner fears as both a woman and a kunoichi.

"So... you really don't mind about the baby at all?" she asked in a low voice, an immensely happy smile painted on her face but seeking that final verbal confirmation as she pulled back slightly to look at him.

"Mind? It's the most beautiful and incredible thing that has ever happened to us in our lives, Pakura!" Daigo responded immediately, without hesitating for a single millisecond, as he reached out his fingers to stroke her cheek and gave her a tender, lingering kiss on the forehead. "In fact, think about it... this makes the idea of adopting the little homeless Kaguya boy even more perfect and destined to be part of our family. It will be wonderful to have him at home; it will help us start practicing together, learning how to care for a child, understanding his needs, and becoming true parents before the birth of our own baby arrives. That little Kaguya will have a real home, and in the future, he will become the older brother who will look after and guide ours. Everything fits together perfectly."

Pakura laughed softly, a clear, melodious laugh that completely dispelled any trace of the cold military formality of the central tower. She felt completely infected by her partner's immense, genuine joy, and nodded repeatedly, fully happy and content with the beautiful direction their personal lives were taking starting tonight.

"Alright, Dai," Pakura accepted with total sweetness, snuggling comfortably against his chest and listening to the accelerated beating of his heart. "Let's officially adopt that Kaguya child and bring him home with us. It looks like we'll start building our family a bit sooner than I had anticipated in my original plans."
