The sky over Kanzaki had been dyed a violent orange, but not by the sunset; it was the glow of fires devouring the outer structures.

The city's forests, which should have been green and fresh, were now stifled by the stench of jutsus and the scent of death from both sides.

Thanks to Daigo's foresight in deploying units alongside Rasa and Arata, Suna had not been annihilated in the initial impact. However, what they faced was no ordinary army; it was the darkest war machine of Konoha: the Root division, commanded personally by Danzō Shimura.

The Golden DefenseAt the city's southern front, Rasa stood at the center of a whirlwind of gold dust. Sweat and blood mingled on his forehead, and his hands trembled from overexertion.

Before him, dozens of Konoha ninjas, wearing expressionless porcelain masks, launched wave after wave of coordinated attacks.

"Do not retreat a single inch!" Rasa shouted, unleashing a tide of Gold Dust that crushed three Root ninjas against a stone wall. "If they break through, there will be no mercy for anyone!"

Beside him, Arata was relishing the takedown of the Root ninjas. Using his sand manipulation alongside a portion of Shukaku's power, he shaped the sands into various weapons, successfully intercepting many of Konoha's strikes.

Konoha was employing a cruel war of attrition, throwing civilian-level ninjas forward as cannon fodder just to drain the defenders' chakra, reserving the elite Root members for the final blow.

Danzō Shimura observed everything from a nearby promontory, shielded by his personal guards. His cold eye showed no remorse as he watched his own ninjas fall. To him, lives were merely resources on a geopolitical chessboard.

"Rasa is tenacious," Danzō remarked in a flat voice. "But any ninja will eventually tire after using their bloodline limit for so long. It is time to break the morale of these desert savages. Release the combined demolition jutsu."

Five Root ninjas leapt forward, performing hand signs in perfect synchronization.

"Earth Style: Great Mountain Collapse!"

The ground beneath Kanzaki's first defensive wall groaned and heaved before collapsing in on itself. An explosion of rubble and dust blanketed the area. The screams of the defenders caught beneath the stones were drowned out by the roar of the collapse. The main gate of Kanzaki, the pride of Daigo's new administration, had been reduced to a pile of smoldering ruins.

"The wall has fallen! Enter and take the city!" roared a Konoha commander.

Rasa tried to raise a wall of gold to plug the breach, but he lacked the chakra to maintain such a massive defense. Gritting his teeth, he decided to switch to a full-scale offensive as he watched the black tide of Konoha ninjas rushing toward the interior of the city, where thousands of civilians and children were hiding in basements.

The Return of the KingJust as the first Konoha ninja leapt over the rubble to enter the city, the air grew heavy. A pressure of chakra so immense it felt physical fell over the battlefield like a shroud of lead. Birds fled the area, and the flames of the fires seemed to bow before a superior presence.

"Crystal Style: Great Crystal Wall."

From the center of the ruins, a geyser of pink crystal erupted with unheard-of violence. In less than three seconds, it didn't just seal the breach in the gate; a translucent, shimmering wall over twenty meters high rose to encircle the entire southern sector.

The Konoha ninjas who had already crossed the line were instantly impaled by crystal spikes surging from the ground, turning them into gruesome, glittering decorations at the base of the wall.

Atop this new bastion, Daigo appeared.

His image was a nightmare for any Konoha ninja. His battle armor was shredded at the left shoulder, revealing angry red burns caused by Manda's acid. He was covered in a mixture of his own blood and the violet fluid of the Snake Queen.

His eyes, still glowing with the residue of his chakra, burned with a cold fury that made any man who looked at him feel as though their own blood was freezing.

Behind him, Pakura and Sasori landed with the grace of war-ravens. Sasori already had his chakra threads extended, with the puppet of the Third Hokage floating beside him a sight that caused a murmur of terror among the veteran Konoha ninjas who recognized their former leader.

Danzō, from his vantage point, furrowed his brow in deep bitterness. He clenched his fist tightly, his knuckles turning white. He didn't need anyone to tell him the result of the battle in the Land of Iron.

If Daigo was here, it meant that Orochimaru, the brand-new Fourth Hokage, had been defeated or had fled like a coward.

"Danzō-sama... the Kazekage has returned," whispered a Root ninja, his voice trembling for the first time. "Do we order a total assault?"

Danzō clicked his tongue in disdain. "Don't be an idiot. Look at his state. Even though he looks injured, he can fight for another day. If we force the attack now, no one from Root will be left to defend the shadows of Konoha. The element of surprise is gone, and Orochimaru has left us in an indefensible political position."

Danzō turned around, his cloak fluttering in the frigid wind. "Retreat. Let them celebrate their ruins for today. The war is not over, but this battle has lost its meaning."

With terrifying efficiency, the Konoha ninjas vanished into the surrounding forests, leaving behind only the silence and the pink glow of Daigo's wall.

Honor and HonestyAs the last trace of the enemy vanished, Daigo descended from the wall. His legs buckled for a moment the extreme exhaustion finally taking its toll but he stayed upright through sheer willpower. Rasa approached him, staggering as well from fatigue.

Rasa looked Daigo up and down, noting the smell of venom and the scorched skin. The concern on his face was genuine; Daigo wasn't just his friend; he was the Kazekage of Sunagakure.

"Daigo..." Rasa said, moving closer to offer support so Daigo wouldn't fall. "You're in a terrible state. What on earth happened up there? Did Orochimaru ambush you?"

Daigo sighed, a sound that emerged like a painful whistle from his body. "Just as we thought, he attacked us. Although I defeated him, he barely managed to escape. I did manage to kill his summon, though."

Daigo nodded toward Sasori, and the puppeteer revealed the sealing scrolls.

"The Byakugan of the Hyūga leader," Daigo added. "Konoha has paid a very high price for this attack. But so have we. How many ninjas did we lose here?"

Rasa placed a hand on Daigo's shoulder, ignoring the grime and blood.

"Don't talk nonsense. Daigo, you defeated a Kage and returned to defend us. Kanzaki is still standing because of your foresight and your return. Now, you need a medic."

"Later," Daigo stated, regaining that look of authority that brooked no argument. "First, I want everyone to see me. We have to calm the ninjas after this attack."

Despite the protests of Pakura and the medical ninjas, Daigo walked toward the city's central plaza.

The news of his return had spread like wildfire. Thousands of people civilians, crying children, wounded ninjas, and the elderly poured out of the shelters and crowded into the plaza, surrounded by the debris of Danzō's attack.

Daigo climbed onto an improvised stage. The pink light from his crystal wall, still shimmering in the distance, illuminated his battered figure. The silence that fell over the crowd was absolute, broken only by the distant cry of a baby.

Daigo took off his Kazekage hat, which was dented and dirty, and held it against his chest. Then, to everyone's surprise, he bowed deeply before the citizens of Kanzaki.

"People of Kanzaki, ninjas of Suna, I have come to tell you the truth," his voice, though tired, resonated in every corner of the plaza.

"Today, Konoha profaned our home. They broke the peace of the Kage Summit and tore down our walls because I was not at the gate to receive them. As your Kazekage, my primary duty is your safety."

A murmur of shock rippled through the crowd. They had never heard a Kage apologize for an enemy attack.

"But listen well," Daigo continued, straightening up and letting the fire in his eyes focus on the crowd.

"I am not leaving here today. I will stay in Kanzaki for as long as necessary. We will rebuild the entire city along with new walls to defend it. I will reinforce these walls until they are so high they cannot be easily torn down. And I promise you, by my title as Kazekage, that no shadow will walk these streets again as long as I draw breath. Kanzaki is not just a conquered territory... it is our new home outside the desert. And today, we have won not just a battle, but the right to exist above those who wished to destroy us."

A roar of jubilation erupted in the plaza. The Suna ninjas pounded their flak jackets in salute, and the civilians, who had previously looked at Daigo with the suspicion reserved for a "conqueror," now saw him as their absolute savior.

The loyalty forged in that moment of vulnerability and forgiveness was stronger than any loyalty seal.

Later that night, in the makeshift office inside Kanzaki's town hall, Daigo finally allowed the medics to treat his wounds. He sat shirtless while Pakura applied ointments to his acid burns.

"Dai, can I ask you something?" Pakura asked.

"Of course you can," Daigo said, looking at her.

"What are you thinking of doing now? Do you really want to continue this long war against the world and watch more ninjas die? Wouldn't it be better to stop it now? You know it would be best for everyone," Pakura asked.

"Ura-chan, as much as I would like that, Sunagakure doesn't have the weight to stop a world war on its own. Only Konoha is capable of that," Daigo said.

"Is that why you left those two alive?" she asked curiously.

"Yes. Even though Minato is lost and feels like everything is happening too fast, he is very strong. Even if we fought him at 100%, it wouldn't be easy to defeat him. He could even beat me."

"I don't believe that. He could barely handle me and Sasori," Pakura said.

"Did he use the Hiraishin?" Daigo asked.

At the question, Pakura tried to remember, then shook her head.

"There is your answer. With the Hiraishin, he can defeat both of you without much trouble. There's a reason Iwa has a 'flee on sight' order against him. The only reason I defeated him was that I caught him in a trap he wasn't prepared for."

"I see. So you think he'll manage to become Hokage?"

"Yes, he will. Ura-chan... come, let's get some sleep. I think I deserve a good rest after everything that happened today."
