At the beginning of all the fights

"Then... shall we dance?"

Daigo spoke as he blurred through hand signs and slammed his palms against the ground.

"Shōton: Kesshō no Tōge (Crystal Style: massive Spikes)!" Massive crystal spikes erupted toward the Swordsmen, who reacted instantly, leaping out of the way.

As everyone jumped away from the crystal spikes, Daigo watched as Shizuka, Yashamaru, and Baki ran alongside while Pakura and Sasori run other way.

Noticing that only he and Mangetsu remained, Daigo wasted no time starting the fight, charging toward him to land a powerful blow with a layer of stone over his fist.

Mangetsu, seeing Daigo's attack, did not draw his sword, did not make hand signs, and didn't even get into a fighting stance.

He simply stood there with his arms crossed, waiting for the impact. Daigo, taking advantage of his momentum, launched a punch directly at the swordsman's solar plexus.

Splash!

The sensation was disconcerting. Instead of feeling the impact of bone against flesh, Daigo's arm sank into a mass of cold water.

It was like hitting the bottom of a bucket full of water. Mangetsu's body undulated, losing its human form for an instant to become a column of translucent liquid.

"Those attacks won't work on me," Mangetsu said. His voice was calm, as if Daigo hadn't even tried to hit him, while his face reformed just inches away from Daigo's fist.

"You know physical attacks can't hurt me. Use everything you have, because I won't let you out of here alive," Mangetsu said.

In a fluid motion, Mangetsu's arm solidified enough to grab the hilt of one of his twin swords. He launched a horizontal slash aimed at severing Daigo's neck. Reacting quickly, Daigo expanded the earth fist jutsu through his arm, parrying the blow.

Clang!

The sound of metal against stone echoed through the entire forest, sending bright sparks into the air.

The force of the blow was so great that Daigo was dragged back several meters, his feet leaving furrows in the ground.

"Not bad, you have good reflexes," Mangetsu said, regaining his full human form and shaking a drop of water off his cheek. "But let's see if you can keep up the pace."

Without saying anything else, Mangetsu returned to the attack, though this time it was with his sword Hiramekarei.

This sword is the most versatile of all of the 7 swords, thanks to its ability to store and release chakra for different attacks.

As Mangetsu launched strikes, Daigo dodged them quickly while blocking some with his stone fists.

He tried to hit him several more times, but just like before, Mangetsu's water body simply received the blows, creating a hole that would then close up.

Moving away, Daigo began to make hand signs to keep testing how far that Hozuki clan jutsu worked.

"Doton: Doryūdango (Earth Mausoleum)!" Daigo said, slamming the ground so that large pieces of stone rose from the earth.

He sent them flying toward Mangetsu, who took care of destroying them. This didn't matter much to Daigo, as he saw what he wanted: the stone would do nothing to his body.

Dodging a slash from Mangetsu, Daigo counterattacked with another jutsu, though this one wasn't launched directly at Mangetsu.

"Doton: Ganban Kyū (Rock Plate Prison)!" This time, as Daigo placed his hands on the ground, two walls rose from the earth to crush Mangetsu, who was in the middle.

Unlike what would usually happen, blood spilling from the cracks of the walls, this time it was water. Seconds later, Mangetsu was back as if nothing had happened.

"It seems you have nothing to attack me with, Daigo. Is that all? Show me that crystal again; earth will do nothing to me," Mangetsu said, showing small signs of impatience.

"The crystal can wait, Mangetsu. Your jutsu is quite curious, and I'm interested to see what its limit is," Daigo said, preparing more hand signs.

"Doton: Doryū Taiga (Earth Flow River)!" Daigo said, placing both hands against the ground.

The attack created a large lake of mud, reducing the movements of both. However, using Shunshin, Daigo managed to quickly approach Mangetsu, throwing another punch. Seeing that nothing happened, Daigo smiled, noticing how Mangetsu's feet were now getting muddy.

"I see. You think the mud river will give me trouble? It won't be like that," Mangetsu said, pointing his sword at Daigo and then launching a chakra slash toward him.

The chakra slash that emerged from Hiramekarei was not a wind slash. It was a dense, bluish chakra crescent that hissed as it cut through the humid air of the mud.

Daigo, with his feet sunk in the Doryū Taiga, didn't have time to dodge sideways. He crossed both arms in front of his face, reinforcing the Doton layer until it took on the tone of stone.

BOOM!

The impact was brutal. The energy slash didn't just hit Daigo; the hydraulic pressure behind the chakra exploded on contact.

Daigo felt his bones creak under the stress. He was thrown backward, skidding over the mud he had created, until his back hit the trunk of a charred tree painfully.

The stone shield on his arms crumbled, revealing friction burns and several superficial cuts that began to bleed.

"Tch." Daigo spat a thread of blood and mud. His eyes, however, remained fixed on Mangetsu, analyzing the situation.

Mangetsu, standing in the middle of his mud river, was no longer smiling. His peaceful expression had been replaced by a frown and a look of growing annoyance.

His fingers drummed impatiently on the bandaged hilt of the Hiramekarei. The filth of the mud clung to his ankles, and while it didn't limit his intangibility, it did seem to offend his aesthetics.

"I'm getting tired of this, Daigo," Mangetsu said, his voice gurgling with a deeper, more threatening tone.

"You say you want to test my limits, but all you've thrown at me are rocks and mud. You're boring. I thought you'd be a challenge after having defeated Fuguki, but maybe it was just luck."

Hearing Mangetsu, Daigo just listened; he wasn't going to say anything about his battles, because in the end, facts speak louder than words.

"If you're not going to show me that crystal of yours, then you're not worth my time, and I'll end this," he finished saying.

Mangetsu released one of his twin swords, letting it hang from his scroll, and joined his hands in a unique Hōzuki Clan seal.

The water from the Doryū Taiga began to vibrate, but not to mix with the mud, but to separate from it.

"Suitenpō: Mizufūsen no Jutsu (Water Style: Water Balloon Jutsu)!" Mangetsu exclaimed, pointing both hands toward Daigo like pistols.

Seconds later, Mangetsu's hands looked like guns, firing many water bullets in his direction.

Everything in their path was destroyed upon contact with the penetrating bullets. Daigo, running from the attack, noticed how everything was being shredded by the water bullets, so he preferred to create an earth wall to block the jutsu.

"Doton: Doryūheki! (Earth Style: Mud Wall)!"

A massive wall rose from the mud to stop the advance of the water bullets. But Mangetsu only smiled at this, channeling more chakra into his fingertips.

From the other side of the wall, Daigo was able to rest for a moment, but an instinct in his body told him to move, and he wasn't going to challenge it. He moved.

"Suitenpō: Mizu-Dangan (Water Style: Water Cannon Bullet)!" From Mangetsu's fingers, only one bullet came out this time, though its size was much larger than the previous ones.

Upon impacting Daigo's wall, it was totally destroyed by the shot, making cold sweat run down Daigo's back as he realized what would have happened if he hadn't moved from there.

Amidst all the rubble, Daigo, in his moment of escape while observing that jutsu, didn't notice a hand coming out of the ground and grabbing his foot.

"Suiton: Suiryūbu no Jutsu (Water Style: Water Prison Jutsu)!" Mangetsu said as he grabbed Daigo's foot, creating a water bubble around him and trapping him.

Daigo tried to get out, but it was impossible, feeling a gigantic pressure of water over his body. It made him think of his training sessions with Todo sensei.

"It's a shame," said the real Mangetsu as he walked toward Daigo. "I had high expectations for Suna's prodigy. But it seems you're just a kid with tricks and overconfidence who died before using all his power."

From inside the water prison, Daigo heard Mangetsu's words, and he was completely right; if he had used everything, he might not have ended up in this situation.

But Daigo was not so foolish as to not always have an ace up his sleeve. Feeling the chakra inside him and the oxygen he had left, he focused on the hand of the clone maintaining the water prison.

With an explosion of chakra plus the first activation of the Seven Heavens Breathing using what little oxygen he had it was enough to destabilize the water sphere.

He was able to create a crystal spike, crystallizing the water of the sphere and piercing the clone, which was destroyed along with the jutsu, freeing Daigo.

Taking in as much oxygen as possible, Daigo looked at Mangetsu, who didn't react, only watching him curiously for having escaped the water prison.

"You're almost right, Mangetsu," Daigo said, his voice suddenly sounding with maturity. "We're done playing. If you wanted to see my crystal, now you will."

Mangetsu narrowed his eyes, a hint of competitive excitement returning to his expression. He drew the second Hiramekarei sword, ready for the real clash.

"What are you waiting for? Come," Mangetsu said.

Daigo, activating the Seven Heavens Breathing up to the 4th stage, disappeared from his spot to reappear right in Mangetsu's face. It was a frontal charge, identical to the one that started the fight but with much more speed.

Mangetsu, not feeling any danger from a repeated physical attack, simply smiled in a mocking and entertained way, seeing how much faster the boy had become in seconds.

He crossed his arms over his chest again, preparing for Daigo to pass through his water body once more, planning to reform behind his back for a mortal attack.

Daigo launched a punch directly at Mangetsu's face. But just before impact, Mangetsu activated his Suika no Jutsu (Hydration Jutsu), turning his head and torso into a column of translucent liquid.

Daigo's hand sank into the water of Mangetsu's face. Mangetsu was already mentally preparing his counterattack. But something went wrong.

At the exact moment Daigo's skin touched the water of Mangetsu's body, Daigo released his chakra.

"Shōton: Suishō Sekai (Crystal Style: Crystal World)!" As he finished saying his jutsu, the column of water that was Mangetsu's face began to shine with a pink and translucent glow.

The water, which should have been fluid and malleable, became solid and rigid in a matter of microseconds. The crystallization spread rapidly from the point of contact on the cheek toward the rest of the head, neck, and Mangetsu's right shoulder.

Mangetsu, feeling how he instantly lost control of his own body's water mass, felt terror.

The crystallized part no longer responded to his hydration chakra. He felt a panic he had never experienced: the feeling of being trapped inside a water prison jutsu, but worse.

"What... what kind of shit is this?" Mangetsu gurgled with the part of his mouth that was still water, his voice full of genuine fear.

The crystal was spreading dangerously toward his chest. If this reached the point of crystallizing his entire body, it would be over.

In an act of pure desperation and survival, Mangetsu activated the ability of his Hiramekarei sword. The twin sword hanging from his scroll began to shine with a massive blue aura, absorbing his chakra at an alarming rate.

With his left arm, the only one still fully liquid and free, he grabbed the hilt of the sword.

"HIRAMEKAREI KAI! (Hiramekarei Release!)" Mangetsu shouted in desperation.

Hiramekarei didn't take the form of a longsword this time. Mangetsu, needing instant brute force to break the molecular siege, released the chakra in the form of a war hammer made of pure solid light. With a harrowing cry, Mangetsu slammed the light hammer against his own crystallized body.

The impact was devastating. The crystal, being extremely hard but brittle against high-mass impacts, shattered into a thousand translucent pieces.

The explosion of light and crystal fragments threw Daigo back with unheard-of violence. Daigo flew several meters, rolling through the mud and hitting another tree, his body bruised but a triumphant smile appearing on his bloody face.

Mangetsu landed at a safe distance, breathing with difficulty, his body shaking uncontrollably. His shoulder and face, now freed from the crystal, were in a gelatinous and deformed state, constantly dripping water as his chakra desperately tried to reform his biological structure.

He had lost a large amount of water mass and chakra in that single defensive move. He looked at Daigo with a mixture of hatred, respect, and a deep, primal fear he never thought he'd feel.

Daigo slowly rose from the mud, wiping blood from his mouth with the back of his hand.

His gaze shone with absolute tactical clarity. He observed the crystal fragments scattered in the mud, noticing that they had not de-crystallized; they remained solid.

"I see," Daigo murmured, his smile widening, revealing his teeth.

"I am your complete counter. If I turn you into crystal, you're finished. It seems I won't need that much ingenuity to end you after all."
