Chapter 16 - Chapter 15: Becoming a God

The Toads Explained

The toads explained that if he wanted to go to heaven, Anbao must sleep—and he must truly fall asleep. As for becoming a deity, it would depend on how much knowledge he left behind in the human world and in hell.

Anbao felt that as he was now, he would certainly be unable to sleep.

The toads told him not to worry—while he slept, rational therapists would clear the thoughts in his cerebral cortex, and he would be able to fall asleep before long. As for the knowledge he left in the human world and hell, it had already been spread and solidified through his students in hell, books, and the children of the rational therapists.

At night, Anbao began to sleep. At first, he heard many people murmuring and debating—some said it was so easy to become a deity, maybe they should take his place; others asked what would happen to his parents in the human world after he became a god. Later, he heard sleep-talking from the next room. It was the voices of his parents in the human world, shielding him: "He was born to become a deity; none of us could stop him. If he is no longer here in the future, it means he has returned to be an official and thrive; even if he stayed here, there wouldn't be much he could do. We should be happy for him." Their voices helped drive away the other noise.

Then, one voice stood out sharply—it aimed at every other voice, shouting over and over, "Get lost!" This was actually the rational therapist who had once seen Anbao taking his mother to the market. Finally, all the voices were completely chased away by this furious roar.

Anbao's cerebral cortex relaxed considerably. The world fell completely silent.

Anbao gradually sank into sleep, falling deeper and deeper.

He dreamed of a group of people standing before him saying, "Thank you." The toads beside him whispered an explanation: "These are your rational therapists. You taught their children many things."

He dreamed of his parents in heaven saying to him, "We've been waiting for you for so long, son."

When he awoke, he had already become a deity in heaven.
