Chapter 8 - Support

The day stretches on as Giyuu slowly regains his bearings. Sanemi stays close by, occasionally checking his phone for updates. He brings Giyuu water and tries to answer any questions he has about the situation.

The doctor visits again in the afternoon to check on Giyuu's condition and change his bandages. They discuss the extent of his injuries and the possible treatment plan. Giyuu remains mostly quiet, only speaking when necessary. He seems to be deep in thought, likely processing the reality of his situation and the fact that he's stuck with Sanemi. The door to the dorm opens, and Sanemi's roommate, Tengen, walks in. He stops abruptly when he sees Giyuu in Sanemi's bed, raising an eyebrow at the scene.

Tengen looks at Sanemi with a questioning look, silently asking who the hell this is and why he's here. Sanemi looks one last time to Giyuu than gabs Tengen's wrist pulling him out. He shut the door close sighing deeply. "You know that introverted guy in some of our classes, the one who is with Shinobu. Well we had some detention together and I saw is cuts, yes he is suicidal attempt so I am trying to save this whole situation somehow." Tengen listens intently, his expression turning serious as he hears about Giyuu's self-harm and suicidal tendencies. He knows about Giyuu, but not to this extent.

He lowers his voice to a whisper. "Damn. That's rough. So he's staying here because...?" Sanemi runs a hand through his hair, looking stressed. "He has no family or relatives. I couldn't just leave him alone. He doesn't have anyone else." He glances back at the door, making sure Giyuu can't hear their conversation. "And he's been having nightmares. About the accident and stuff." Tengen crosses his arms, leaning against the wall. "That's why you look like shit. You didn't sleep at all, did you?" He knows Sanemi well enough to notice when he's been awake all night. Sanemi scowls at him. "No, I didn't. And I probably won't tonight either. I need to watch him."

He looks exhausted, dark circles under his eyes and bags forming. Tengen shakes his head disapprovingly. "You're going to burn out, man. You can't play bodyguard 24/7. When's the last time you ate?" Sanemi shrugs, not remembering. "Doesn't matter. I'll eat later. Right now, Giyuu needs food too. I'll get him something from the cafeteria." He's already reaching for his wallet in his pocket, planning to grab some takeout for both of them. Tengen grabs his arm again, stopping him. "I'll get it. You stay here. You look like you're about to collapse." He pulls out his phone to order food. "What does he eat?" Sanemi hesitates, then mutters. "He's a picky eater. Just get him something simple. No seafood or anything with mushrooms."

He remembers Giyuu mentioning that he doesn't like certain foods during their detention time. Tengen nods, typing a note to himself. "Got it. Seafood and mushrooms are off-limits. Anything else I should know?" He glances at the door again, concerned about Giyuu's mental state as well as his physical injuries. Sanemi shakes his head again, his expression softening slightly. "He's been through a lot. Just... be nice to him. And don't ask about the scars." He means the self-harm scars. Tengen is aware. Tengen gives a serious nod, understanding the sensitivity of the situation. "I won't. I'll be back with food in 10."

He heads out to the cafeteria, leaving Sanemi alone once more with his thoughts and the sleeping Giyuu. Sanemi checks his phone for the time, then checks on Giyuu again. He sees that Giyuu is still asleep, but seems restless. His fingers twitching slightly under the blanket. He decides to text Shinobu about the situation, since she's Giyuu's only close friend, or even something more. Sanemi has a brief moment of doubt, wondering if they are actually dating. He remembers how close they are in class, but also remembers how Giyuu doesn't seem to have romantic feelings for anyone.

He quickly dismisses the thought. If they were dating, Shinobu would know about the self-harm and would have done something about it already. He sends a message to Shinobu: "Giyuu is in my dorm. He's injured. Can you come by after school?" He adds a quick explanation about the accident and Giyuu's current condition, keeping it brief and to the point. Shinobu's reply comes almost immediately. "On my way. What happened to him exactly?" She sounds worried and angry, as expected from a protective friend. Sanemi replies with a grim description of the accident and Giyuu's injuries.

"He was hit by a truck. Multiple fractures, concussion, and internal bleeding. He's stable now, but he needs someone who actually cares about him." Shinobu reads the message, and Sanemi can practically feel her rage through the screen. She texts back with a single sentence: "Who did this?" Sanemi smirks slightly at her response, knowing she's ready to hunt down the truck driver. "I don't know yet. But when I find out, you'll be the first to know. For now, just focus on Giyuu." He pauses, then adds: "And don't tell anyone else. He doesn't need the attention." Shinobu agrees to keep it secret, promising to bring medical supplies and some of Giyuu's personal items.

She arrives at the dorm in record time, carrying a bag filled with supplies and a determined look on her face. She knocks quietly on the door. Sanemi opens the door, letting her in. He gestures to the sleeping Giyuu, keeping his voice low. "He's sleeping. He needs it." He steps aside to let her in, his own exhaustion evident. Shinobu's eyes soften when she sees Giyuu, but quickly harden again as she takes in his injuries. She sets down the bag and starts unpacking it quietly.

She notices the bruises on his wrists and ankles, and her hands clench into fists. She whispers to Sanemi. "Did you clean those? The ones on his wrists and ankles." She's referring to the self-harm scars, her voice barely audible. Sanemi nods, showing her the first aid kit he used.* "Yes. But they're old. He's been doing it for a while. But I need to know, are you two a... thing?" He watches her carefully, gauging her reaction to this new information. Shinobu looks at him with a mixture of sadness and frustration.

"No. We're just friends. I wish he would talk to me about this." She gently touches one of the old scars, her fingers trembling slightly. "He's been hurting himself since middle school. I've tried to help, but he always pushes me away." Sanemi sighs heavily. "That explains a lot. He doesn't trust anyone, does he?" He runs a hand through his hair again, looking between Giyuu and Shinobu. "He trusts you more than others. That's why I called you."
