Chapter 103 - [103] : Brand-New Mechanics! Brand-New Roster!

The Ork Boyz. Green, rowdy, and utterly obsessed with violence, these fungal-based bio-engineered species were never going to slot neatly into Battlefield: Warhammer 40K as just another reskinned faction.

Their whole existence runs on a fundamentally different logic of warfare, something almost physics-like in the way it builds and escalates. To do them justice, Medici designed an entirely new set of core gameplay mechanics built around them from the ground up. Completely independent of the existing Imperial and Chaos systems, and soaked through with Ork personality.

At the heart of it all sits the one metric that matters: how completely out of control this Waaagh!!! has gotten.

[Global Waaagh!!! Value]

Displayed as a progress bar slapped across the top of every Ork-faction player's screen in full Ork graffiti style, the Global Waaagh!!! Value is visible to everyone on the battlefield, friend and foe alike.

Think of it as a riot meter that never stops boiling. It doesn't belong to any single unit. It's the collective mood, the mounting fury, the sheer momentum of the entire Ork faction across the whole campaign.

It doesn't grow at a steady rate, either. The Waaagh!!! Value is divided into five stages. Each time a threshold is crossed, more powerful and more unhinged effects unlock, pushing the chaos of the battlefield to new heights.

[Stage One: Waaagh!!! Value 20% or higher]

- Green Tide Stirring: Ork Spore Pits on the battlefield grow 5% faster, meaning Boyz reinforcements replenish more frequently. The first hints of "no matter how many you kill, more just keep coming" begin making themselves felt.

- Boyz Evolving: The probability of ordinary Ork Boyz earning enough combat experience to get promoted into elite units, Storm Boyz, Tank Bustas, and the like, increases by 5%. More elites means more breakthrough potential.

[Stage Two: Waaagh!!! Value 40% or higher]

- Green Tide Surging: Spore Pit growth speed bonus climbs to +10%.

- Elites Emerging: Boyz promotion probability rises to +10%.

The battlefield truly starts to heat up. The pressure on enemy front lines becomes noticeably harder to ignore.

[Stage Three: Waaagh!!! Value 60% or higher] - A Critical Turning Point

- Green Tide Swelling: Spore Pit growth speed jumps to +20%.

- Elite Frenzy: Boyz promotion probability reaches +20%.

- The Call of the Waaagh!: By this point, the noise level of the battlefield is loud enough to register on the "war radar" of other Ork Warbands scattered across the galaxy. The system begins randomly spawning and airdropping elite Ork Warbands from across the cosmos to join the fight. These could be better-equipped Boyz, additional Storm Boy assault squads, or even Ork Battlewagons, Kans, and other vehicle units. There's also a lower but very real chance of Ork Hero units dropping in directly, including powerful Warbosses and cunning Ork Weirdboyz. The uncertainty and chaos of the battlefield spike sharply.

[Stage Four: Waaagh!!! Value 80% or higher]

- Green Tide Rampant: Spore Pit growth speed rockets to +40%. Enemies will find, to their despair, that sectors they just finished clearing are already crawling with squawking greenskins again.

- Elites Everywhere: Boyz promotion probability climbs to +30%.

- More Waaagh! Reinforcements: The quantity and frequency of elite Ork Warbands drawn to the battle increases further. Ork Kommandos, Snakebite Hunting Tribes, and other specialty units can now appear.

- Scrap Carnival: Mekboyz units become dramatically more efficient at scavenging Scrap resources from wrecked vehicles and battlefield debris. At the same time, the Scrap cost for players to purchase Mekboy weapons upgrades and vehicle modifications drops significantly. The Ork philosophy of "pick up junk, build a big gun" kicks into high gear.

[Stage Five: Waaagh!!! Value 100%] - The Ultimate Carnival

- Green Tide Apocalypse: Spore Pit growth speed hits a terrifying +80%, pushing close to "die and respawn instantly" territory. Opponents find themselves drowning in a pure biological tsunami.

- Elites as Far as the Eye Can See: Boyz promotion probability reaches +50%. Elite Orks become a common sight across the entire battlefield.

- Waaagh! Feast: Elite Ork Warbands from across the galaxy pour in continuously and in droves, turning the battlefield into a genuine Ork theme park.

- I Reckon It'll Work!: The ultimate effect. When the Waaagh!!! Value hits 100% and holds there for a sustained period, Mekboyz on the battlefield enter a state of pure inspiration. This is especially true for those the player has heavily invested in, or high-tier Meks who evolved naturally. They will spontaneously begin burning through the massive piles of accumulated Scrap to tinker together something truly outrageous.

It takes a fairly lengthy construction time and requires enough Mekboyz and Gretchin Slaves actively participating in the build. But given the right conditions, enough time, and a sufficiently charged Waaagh!!! atmosphere, they have a genuine shot at producing the Orks' most iconic ultimate weapons: the colossal Gargant, or the legendary Gorkanaut, blessed by the divine power of Gork and Mork themselves.

The conditions are brutally demanding. But there is no denying that when it happens, it's the ultimate surprise for Ork players and the ultimate nightmare for everyone else.

---

So how does a player raise the Waaagh!!! Value?

The rule is simple and brutal, exactly as Ork philosophy demands: fight. Fight big. Fight loud.

The Waaagh!!! Value rises directly in proportion to overall battlefield intensity. Win or lose, it doesn't matter. As long as the fighting is fierce enough, the body count high enough, the explosions loud enough, and the destruction widespread enough, battlefield intensity climbs and the Waaagh!!! Value climbs with it.

The Ork faction doesn't fear losses. In a very real sense, they welcome them, because every fight, regardless of outcome, is just more fuel for the fire. This pushes Ork players toward aggressive, proactive, even reckless offensive strategies, keeping the pot boiling and the scale of war continuously escalating.

---

Alongside the global system, Medici built an entirely new personal growth and roleplaying framework tailored specifically for players choosing the Ork faction.

[Ork Reputation System]

In Ork society, raw strength matters enormously, but Reputation runs a close second. A strong enough reputation will draw Boyz to follow a player entirely on their own, no orders required. Every "glorious" action a player takes on the battlefield adds to their Reputation:

- Killing Enemies: Taking down powerful enemies in particular, elite units, heroes, vehicles, Titans, all yield large amounts of Reputation.

- Causing Massive Destruction: Demolishing key structures, wiping out vehicle clusters, or dealing enormous damage in a short window of time.

- Challenging Powerful Foes: Actively picking fights with enemy hero units or great war beasts. Win or lose, as long as the fight is hard enough and lasts long enough, the Reputation accrues.

- Leading the Waaagh!: Performing exceptionally well when the faction's Waaagh!!! Value is surging, or successfully spearheading an assault that inflicts heavy losses on the enemy.

As Reputation grows, players will notice an increasing number of Ork Boy AI units gravitating toward them on their own. These Boyz aren't summoned using points. They're drawn in by the player's Reputation and voluntarily attach themselves as followers. They swarm around the player, roaring with excitement, providing extra firepower and a steady supply of cannon fodder.

More importantly, these followers bring more than just numbers. The collective Waaagh!!! energy they radiate converts directly into personal experience points for the player. Players can accelerate this process by leading their Boyz to actual results on the battlefield.

Once experience points hit a certain threshold, the player earns a promotion. Ork faction players don't have fixed classes. Their roles evolve as war merits and experience stack up.

1. Starting as a Boy: Every Ork player begins as a relatively big, mean-looking Ork Boy.

2. Promoting to Nob: Once enough experience and Reputation have built up, the player promotes to Nob, gaining stronger stats, exclusive abilities, and a significantly improved capacity to command nearby Ork AI units.

3. Specialization Paths: After reaching Nob, players can branch into a specialization based on how they prefer to fight.

- Path of the Warboss: For players who live for melee carnage and leading armies headfirst into the enemy. This path can eventually evolve into a full-fledged Warboss with terrifying individual combat power, powerful legion command auras, and even the ability to actively trigger localized Waaagh!!! frenzies.

- Path of the Mekboy: For players who enjoy collecting Scrap, repairing vehicles, and tinkering with weapons. The Mekboy path unlocks the ability to manufacture, upgrade, and repair Ork technological creations. At higher levels, this path allows the player to participate directly in the "I Reckon It'll Work!" construction of a Gargant.

- Path of the Weirdboy: For players drawn to the Orks' unreliable but spectacular Waaagh! energy. This path lets them try their hand at the volatile knowledge of the Ork Weirdboy, bending bizarre Waaagh! energies toward attack, defense, or summoning. It comes with a real risk of backlash, but the upside is worth the gamble.

This Reputation, Experience, and Evolution system weaves Ork players deeply into the advancement logic of Ork society.

Personal growth and contribution to the faction's overall Waaagh!!! Value feed directly into each other, creating an experience that can be summed up simply: "I'm the flashiest git in this Waaagh!!!, and all the Boyz are right behind me."

Medici looked over the complete system, designed from the global level all the way down to the individual player, and let himself smile.

This wasn't just adding a new playable faction. This was dropping something into the battlefields of Battlefield: Warhammer 40K that was genuinely uncontrollable, overflowing with violence, and having the time of its life.
