Chapter 161: The Control Devil (1/2)
Chapter 161: The Control Devil Hell.
A young girl with long pink hair and golden concentric-circle eyes, identical to those of the Famine Devil, wore a faint, dangerous smile on her stunningly beautiful face.
Not only was she fair-skinned and gorgeous, but she also possessed a graceful, curvaceous figure.
Beside the girl stood a grotesquely terrifying and massive devil, yet it maintained a submissive posture toward this seemingly frail "human girl."
"Lord Control..."
That's right, this "human girl" was none other than one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: the Control Devil, Makima.
However, the Control Devil probably hadn't given herself the name "Makima" yet at this point in time, as she would only need to adopt a human name after going to the human world.
As for the devil beside her, it was one of her subordinates.
"Preparations are almost complete; it's almost time to head to the human world. How are the discussions with the Hell Devil going?" The Control Devil asked. Her voice was gentle, melodious, and charming.
"It should be ready in a few more days. The conditions demanded by the Hell Devil are quite troublesome." Her subordinate replied.
The Hell Devil didn't only make contracts with humans; devils could also ask it for help, provided they could meet its conditions.
While the contract conditions demanded of humans involved a few human lives, the conditions demanded of a devil certainly wouldn't be human lives, but they wouldn't be easy either.
"Mhm..." The Control Devil gave a soft acknowledgment as she fell into deep thought.
She had made ample preparations to go to the human world, naturally setting her sights on the Chainsaw Devil. She wanted to use the Chainsaw Devil's power to kill the Death Devil and prevent the Nostradamus Prophecy.
Her motivation was also very simple: she loved humans and dreamed of having an equal family, and this "family member" would most likely be expected to be a human, too.
Otherwise, Makima's three older sisters—War, Famine, and Death—shared the exact same status as fellow Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and a sisterly bond naturally fit the word "family," even if it was a superficial sisterhood.
This suggested that the "family" Makima desired was likely human rather than a devil, which was why she intended to stop the Death Devil; after all, once human civilization was destroyed by the Death Devil, her dream could never be realized.
For instance, the Chainsaw Man Church in Part 2 of the original manga was a lingering issue left behind by Makima. Even though Makima had already been reincarnated as Nayuta, the members of the Chainsaw Man Church still obeyed Makima's will.
This showed that in the original story, Makima had long been laying the groundwork to rely on the power of Chainsaw Man to stop the Death Devil, and everything done by the Chainsaw Man Church was intended to provoke Chainsaw Man into growing strong enough to prevent the fulfillment of the Nostradamus Prophecy.
This was Makima's original goal, except that her mindset was later distorted by the cabinet, obsessing her from the goal of stopping the Death Devil from destroying human civilization to wanting to completely eradicate all devils, including herself.
...
"Gurgle—"
Otonashi Chiya walked down the streets of Modu with Kiga, whose stomach was letting out increasingly loud rumbling sounds.
Lacking the bashfulness typical of young human girls, Kiga spoke directly to Otonashi Chiya: "I'm hungry."
Dressed in a school uniform and carrying a backpack, Kiga looked just like an ordinary female high school student.
"Alright, alright, I know you're hungry, but we have to find a place to eat first." Otonashi Chiya said.
Soon, they found a restaurant that looked to have very nice decor and atmosphere. The restaurant was also doing a brisk business, with very few empty tables left.
"Are you two guests? Please come sit this way."
A waiter immediately walked over and said respectfully. "Yes, just the two of us." Otonashi Chiya nodded in response.
As soon as they stepped into the restaurant, Otonashi Chiya and Kiga instantly became the center of attention.
Otonashi Chiya, in particular, with his official uniform and eye-catching shoulder insignia, stood out immediately.
The surrounding guests began whispering among themselves in hushed tones.
The waiter also noticed the guest's shoulder insignia, thinking to himself whether that insignia could possibly belong to an SSS-rank Devil Hunter...?
Judging by his appearance, he still looked like a student, and he was even out eating with a female high school student. When on earth did such an SSS-rank high schooler appear in Modu?
The waiter's attitude turned even more respectful and cautious as he respectfully handed the menu over to Otonashi Chiya and Kiga.
"You choose first, and I'll just pick something after you're done."
Otonashi Chiya said to Kiga.
"Then I won't hold back."
When Kiga said she wouldn't hold back, she truly didn't hold back at all. She went straight down the menu and marked "×10" next to every single dish she wanted.
"Pardon me, guest, what does this mean?"
Looking at the marks the guest had made next to the dishes, the waiter asked with a puzzled expression.
"It means I want ten of every single one."
Kiga said.
"Ten of every single one?!"
The waiter was shocked and immediately reminded her, "Are you certain, guest? Once confirmed, orders cannot be canceled."
This guest had marked five different dishes, which added up to fifty portions in total—most of which were desserts with quite substantial serving sizes.
That was roughly enough food for at least a dozen adults to finish, yet the person across from him was just a female high school student with a slim figure who didn't look like a heavy eater at all.
"I'm certain."
Kiga nodded slightly.
At this moment, Otonashi Chiya also chimed in, "It's fine. If we can't finish it later, we'll just pack everything to go."
"Alright..."
The waiter had no choice but to head to the kitchen to place the order.
After the waiter walked away, Otonashi Chiya couldn't help saying to Kiga, "Even though I'm treating, you really don't hold back at all..."
With Kiga's exaggerated appetite, it was a good thing he wasn't lacking in money; otherwise, treating her to a meal wasn't something an ordinary person could afford.
"The Control Devil should be coming to the human world soon, too."
Kiga selectively ignored Otonashi Chiya's remark.
However, these words successfully shifted Otonashi Chiya's attention, as the matter of the Control Devil was definitely of utmost importance to him.
"Then should we head to Hell to find her first, or just wait for her to arrive in the human world? But even if she comes to the human world, we have no way of knowing where she will descend."
Otonashi Chiya pondered aloud.
"Barring any accidents, Control-chan will probably come to China. Since she knows I've already come to the human world and am in China, she'll probably assume I'm here looking for the Chainsaw Devil."
Kiga analyzed, "Based on my understanding of Control-chan, she's very likely to follow my tracks to China in search of the Chainsaw Devil."
Otonashi Chiya felt that Kiga's analysis made a lot of sense. "Is that so? By the way, aren't you interested in the Chainsaw Devil at all?"
"Not really. Even though we both want to stop the Nostradamus Prophecy, I don't think the Chainsaw Devil can pull it off..."
What Kiga left unsaid was that she still placed more faith in her War sister.
In her mind, only the War Devil in her prime had any hope of stopping the Death Devil.
