Nora's POV
"Protect you?" The words leave my mouth with obvious skepticism. "From what exactly?"
Hilary scrunches her nose and takes a sharp breath. It's unsettling how her familiar mannerisms remain intact despite inhabiting a completely different body. "I might have angered some demons along the way."
"Fantastic," James and I respond with identical sarcasm.
"This goes beyond just preventing Leonard from claiming power," James continues, his voice tight. "You're talking about saving your own skin."
"No kidding, genius," she shoots back, earning a low growl from James.
"What did you think this was about?" Her attention shifts to me, looking past his broad shoulders. "Do you have any idea what I'm risking just standing this close to her? Is it actually true that we'll die if we attempt possession?"
