Nora's POV
A nurse I don't recognize enters the room, her expression puzzled as she stares at the machine. Right. My silence spell is still active around this space. She can see the alert from the monitoring station but won't hear the actual alarm until she crosses my magical barrier.
She quickly silences the beeping and studies the screen for several moments. "Is my daughter okay?" James asks, his brow creased with worry. The young nurse glances from the monitor to him, clearly startled by everything James radiates. His dark attractiveness mixed with that ancient, dangerous energy that mortals can't identify but instinctively fear and crave.
"Let me just..." she begins, applying sanitizer to her hands before approaching me. "I need to readjust this monitor." She shifts one of the sensors wrapped around my belly and helps me turn more onto my side. Relief floods her face when she checks the screen again. "The baby's heartbeat is normal now. These monitors tend to slip easily."
