Nora's POV
The question hangs in the air between us as James adjusts the blanket draped across my bare shoulder. The evening breeze carries the scent of pine and wildflowers, but I'm shielded from any chill by his protective gesture. We've just crossed another location off my adventurous list, having made passionate love right here on the wooden deck overlooking the forest.
His dark eyes search mine as he waits for my answer about Chicago. I shake my head, relief flooding through me.
"Not until tomorrow night," he murmurs, and I can't hide my satisfaction. Maybe it makes me clingy, but I want him here with me. I press closer to his warm chest, feeling my pulse quicken at his nearness.
"Perfect," I breathe against his skin. "I actually get decent sleep when you're beside me."
His fingers trail along my bare arm, sending shivers through me that have nothing to do with the temperature. "Exhausted again, beautiful?"
