Chapter 49 - Chapter 49

Chapter 49 Just a Little Bit!

"The organization that attacked your hometown was a terrorist group that originated during World War II. It's because your mother has a special ability, like how I make chicken wraps,"

  Finney explained.

"Wait, you mean my mother can cook like you?"

"I mean like!" Finney glared at Skye, who had interrupted him, and continued, "Your mother seems to have a unique healing ability and can even have a very long lifespan, which is why they targeted her."

Skye shrank back and, upon hearing this, couldn't help but ask worriedly, "How is she now?"

"Not very well!" Finney sighed inwardly and continued, "She suffered some torment, and her personality became very extreme, but they are still looking for you."

"You mean my parents have been looking for me all along!?"

Skye stood up excitedly. She had never been without resentment towards her parents for abandoning her, but now that she knew the truth, her first feeling was joy and anticipation of reunion.

  "Calm down!"

Seeing Skye's agitated state, Finney frowned and said in a deep voice, "I told you before, their condition isn't as good as you think."

"But they didn't abandon me, did they?"

Skye looked at Finney with a pleading expression. "Finney, help me, help me find them, okay?"

  "Let me finish!"

Finney was somewhat worried. Skye's parents were both mentally unstable. Her father was slightly better, but her mother was practically insane.

"After your mother was taken away, she suffered inhuman abuse."

Finney didn't want to talk about this, but he realized that without explaining clearly, there was no way forward, so he slowly said, "Her organs were replaced, and then she was abandoned. Your father stitched her back together piece by piece and even did some terrible things to try to cure her."

"And because of losing you, both of them suffered a huge mental blow and became abnormal. Even if you find them now, the outcome might not be what you imagine."

"Shouldn't we go find them and help them return to normal?!"

Hearing about her parents' tragic fate, Skye clenched her fists, her heart aching as well.

"Then how will you help them return to normal?" Finney asked Skye in a low voice. "What if your mother intends to become an enemy of all humanity?"

"What if she's even willing to sacrifice you for that purpose?!"

Faced with Finney's interrogation, Skye couldn't answer, her eyes filled with even deeper pain. The more she hated her parents for abandoning her, the more guilty she felt now.

"Besides, I don't know their location."

Finney sighed and said, "Skye, I really want to help you, but this can't be rushed. I'm telling you this because I don't want you to continue suffering. Also, this matter involves two exceptionally powerful organizations."

In fact, the reason Skye was initially sent to the orphanage was because of two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. They had tried to stop her from being adopted by his parents.

But Skye was someone he had summoned using the 'Golden Grand Evolution Technique,' with the help of the Ancient One. How could she be stopped by two agents? So they ultimately failed, and the two agents eventually disappeared.

Skye then realized there was more to this and immediately asked angrily, "Who are they?"

"You must promise not to alert them now!"

Finney looked at Skye, worried she might disobey his advice and secretly take action, and continued, "I know you're very skilled with computers, but can you compare to someone living inside a computer?"

"There's someone in their organization who has transferred their consciousness into a computer, so don't try to use your skills to investigate them."

"How could such a thing exist!?"

Skye exclaimed incredulously upon hearing Finney's words.

"You've even witnessed magic; is it really surprising if the world is a little strange?" Finney countered.

Skye remained silent. If it were before, she certainly wouldn't have believed Finney's words, but so many things that had happened forced her to accept them.

"So, am I just supposed to abandon them like this?"

Skye's eyes welled with tears, her tear-streaked face particularly pitiful.

"You don't need to worry so much," Finney said, taking a tissue from the bedside table and gently wiping Skye's tears. "They're doing alright for now. Your father seems to be working as a doctor, plotting revenge, and your mother is leading an organization, preparing a grand plan to destroy humanity."

Skye looked at Finney speechlessly. Was her understanding wrong? This was considered alright?

Sensing Skye's meaning, Finney quickly explained, "I mean their living conditions. They both have their own things to do now, and they're quite fulfilled."

"Why does my mother want to destroy humanity?"

  Skye asked worriedly.

"She believes she's an alien, a different race from humans, and then she suffered those abuses, so she's mentally unstable." Finney looked at Skye and decided to explain everything at once. "Actually, you just have a little bit of alien genes in your body!"

"You mean I have them too!?"

Skye was stunned. She hadn't expected to be suddenly declared not human like this.

"It should be just a little bit!"

Finney nodded, pinching a thin gap between his thumb and forefinger to indicate.

"Impossible! I've had a physical exam, how could I be an alien!" Skye didn't believe it at all. She'd been sick before, been to the hospital, and all the tests had been normal.

  "Genetic-level things—can a regular hospital detect that!?"

Seeing Skye's intense reaction, Finney wondered if he had spoken too soon. The idea of aliens wasn't easy for people to accept.

Skye was speechless, stunned by the revelation.

"Don't worry too much, it won't really have any impact. It'll just give you some superpowers," Finney quickly reassured her. "It won't make you turn green, shoot webs, or become super strong like that."

Hearing this, Skye became even more frightened, her body trembling slightly as she asked, "Finney, are you kidding me? Is it true?"

  "Listen to me!"

Finney placed his hands on Skye's shoulders, staring at her seriously as he said, "Don't worry about it. After all, you can't choose these things, and believe me, it's not a big deal."

Hearing this, Skye felt a little better. She hadn't expected the so-called truth to be like this; life was far more absurd than she had imagined.

"Isn't there any way to change her?"

Skye temporarily put aside the matter of genes. What she cared about most was her parents, especially her extreme mother.

"At least for now, I don't have a solution." Finney shook his head, then hesitated before saying, "But if you don't mind, we can try a way to modify her personality later."

  "This can actually be done?"

Skye was surprised again, but immediately nodded and said, "Forget it. No matter what happens in this world, I won't be surprised anymore!"

"Is there any danger in this method?" Skye continued to ask.

  "Probably not!"

Finney thought about the uses of the Mind Scepter but wondered if the brainwashing effect was permanent. If it was only temporary, they might have to think of another way.
