Chapter 3 - Memories

"AAhhh..."

Horrifying screams enveloped the entire forest. Blood splattered in every direction like the monsoon rain and drenched the dead bodies fallen onto the ground.

"Wh.. Who is i..."

Before the man could even complete his question, his head detached from the rest of his body and flew off into the distance.

"Mo... Mother... Mo..."

A shaky voice came from one of the many carriages.

The carriages were built like a prison with iron bars and a gate at the back and a white cloth covered each carriage.

In one of these many carriages, a boy in his pre-teens was sobbing and trying to call for help mid-sobs.

The white cloth covering the carriage was burning and the gas was suffocating the boy. The whole carriage was empty except for the boy.

The boy felt like the world was getting dark by the minute and the image of his mother flashed through his eyes smiling at him.

Just as the boy was about to lose his consciousness, the raging fire was extinguished and at the same time a tall, shadowy figure broke the iron bars. The figure grbbed the boy and escaped from the gas-filled carriage.

The boy's vision was very blurry. All he saw was that one second he was in the carriage, on the brink of death and the next he was outside it. The scene on the outside was blood curdling.

The bodies of many people were scattered everywhere and the ground was filled with blood. But in the boy's eyes, the glistening scattered blood and the flying bodies looked like a... beautiful scenery.

Like a raging waterfall. Fierce yet calm. Loud yet silent. Chaotic yet... beautiful.

In the midst of this scenery was the perpetrator who had caused this scene. This... beautifully chaotic scene.

But the most beautiful thing in the boy's eyes was not the splattering blood or even the contradictory scenery. It was the graceful figure that looked like dancing in the midst of the rain.

The dark figure had long white hair and looked like an adult woman. Before the boy could see the face of this figure, it was gone.

The figure had disappeared into the gloomy, dark forest.

It was the last scene that the boy saw before a sudden pain gripped over his head and with a low yell, he fainted on the blood-soaked ground.

"—Gasp"

Edric's body arched and cold sweat trickled from his forehead. For a whole minute or two, Edric continued breathing heavily.

"Who would have thought...?"

These few words escaped from Edric's trembling lips.

"Memory sealing magic..."

After calming down, Edric checked his right wrist and then chuckled.

"Looks like I really was lucky this time. Not only did I obtain the Holy Grail back, but I also unsealed my memories accidentally. Now that I think about it, I should have asked the royal mage to check if my memories were altered or not."

*Pat... Pat...*

Edric stood up and dusted off the dust from his clothes.

"Okay. Now that I've got back the royal treasure, it's time to... wreck this place up."

A fire lit up in his eyes and without thinking twice, Edric jumped off the black stone platform and took out his sword mid-air.

"Altar... Destroying... Sword..."

With a little overdramatic line, Edric infused his sword with light element. The sword instantly began glowing white and then with a quick downward movement, Edric released the sword slash.

*Crashh...*

With a loud sound, the whole place blasted off into a rubble.

The ancient black altar was no more.

"Yeah! That felt good."

After two consecutive painful experiences, Edric was finally able to let off some steam. There was a very warm feeling in his heart after doing this community service.

The loud bang had attracted the attention of many beasts and Edric didn't want to become a full-course meal for someone else.

His eyes darted off into the direction from where he had come here and ran off with a wide smile.

"Good thing I have Holy Grail now."

As soon as this thought crossed his mind, Edric's whole body was covered in transparent light.

It didn't take long for Edric to reach his white horse, which was still resting under the shade of the tree to which it had been leashed.

"Bobooo..."

A shrill sound resounded in the horse's ears and it opened its eyes immediately. Edric was running in its direction with a stupid wide smile and open hands as if to hug it.

Seeing its owner, Bobo's initial irritation because of his silly name disappears and he stood up.

Edric hugged the horse and Bobo returned the hug with excitement, neighing and tapping his legs on the ground.

The past day had been very lonely for Bobo. Edric had not forgotten to give Bobo the hay in advance before venturing. But that didn't stop Bobo from missing his owner.

Edric was like a parent to Bobo who had taken care of him from birth. Bobo was a pesudo-beast and because of that his intelligence was higher than any normal animal.

Even though Bobo never liked the name that Edric had given him, he still liked Edric. This was also the reason why almost no other person could handle Bobo.

Even if one made a good impression on Bobo, just hearing his name caused the horse to lose all his cool and get angry at the person.

"Now, now. It's time we head back. Isn't that right?"

Edric said to Bobo while gliding his fingers through his fur.

"Neighh..."

Bobo replied in his own way at Edric's question. By the looks of it, Bobo was also happy to be going back to his home.

Edric freed Bobo's leash and mounted on him.

The next second, both Edric and Bobo disappeared into the distance, exiting from the dense rainforest.
