Chapter 57: September 1st
September 1st was the start of the Yorknew Auction.
Ronin's target was tonight's Underground Auction. If the Phantom Troupe followed their modus operandi, everyone attending tonight would die.
But Ronin wasn't a mass murderer. His goal was solely the auction items.
The Uvogin he met yesterday provided the perfect disguise.
He didn't know the deal with Uvogin's patched-up arm, but he could mimic Uvogin's Big Bang Impact perfectly.
"Too bad we don't have a space-type ability. It would be easier to take everything," Kurapika mused while planning.
Ronin thought of Shizuku.
At this point in the timeline, Shizuku shouldn't have joined the Troupe yet. Her ability, Blinky (Deme-chan), was incredibly useful.
But finding her was the problem. If she was from Meteor City, Ronin had zero chance of recruiting her.
Shizuku's personality was manageable—forgetful, indifferent, lacking moral compass, didn't mind killing. She looked cute but spoke sharply. Due to her memory issues, she often forgot her own words.
The only thing she never forgot were the rules. She was obsessed with rules. In internal disputes, she always sided with the rules.
Also, she trusted Chrollo implicitly. Ronin didn't know why.
If it was a Meteor City bond, there was nothing he could do.
If it wasn't, and the bond formed after joining, maybe there was a chance.
But Ronin had no desire to go headhunting in Meteor City.
So, meeting Shizuku was up to fate.
If she joined the Troupe, even if she hadn't participated in the Kurta massacre, Ronin wouldn't hesitate to kill her when the time came!
Without a space ability, he had other ways.
Around 8:00 PM, Ronin got out of the car. Using the Transformation Technique to disguise himself as a Mafia security guard, he walked calmly into the building hosting the auction.
The car drove forward a bit and parked in front of the hotel opposite the Cemetery Building.
The Underground Auction at the Cemetery Building was run entirely by the Mafia.
Buyers could only attend in groups of three max. Security inside was the Mafia's responsibility.
This was the highest security level in Yorknew. Attacking here meant declaring war on the Mafia worldwide!
When Ronin infiltrated the venue, it was already packed.
Everyone was dressed in opulent finery, looking like high-society elites attending a ball. There were plenty of bodyguards, but Nen users were rare.
Ronin didn't stop. He headed straight for the vault where the auction items were stored.
It went smoothly at first, but when asked for identification, Ronin stopped pretending.
The disguised guard instantly transformed into the scarred, demonic figure of Uvogin.
The slaughter began!
The guards guarding the vault were armed to the teeth, but pistol and rifle rounds merely pinged off Ronin's body.
Bullets fell to the floor as he walked, shocking the mobsters.
Ronin's physical toughness might not match Uvogin's peak in a few years, but blocking bullets was trivial.
Tanking a bazooka might still need practice, but he wasn't far off.
The Weighted Boulder Jutsu training had exceeded expectations!
Casually catching a falling bullet, Ronin flicked his finger. Bang! A gunman fell dead with a hole in his forehead.
Ronin walked like a god of war.
Standing before the massive steel vault door, no mobster was left standing nearby.
Ronin didn't kill everyone; he needed witnesses.
Powerful Nen gathered on his fist. Applying the principles of the Big Bang Impact, he slammed a heavy punch into the reinforced door.
BOOM!
A muffled explosion rocked the underground. A massive fist imprint appeared on the door, concaving the metal.
Without using Ninjutsu, relying only on the simple Big Bang Impact, Ronin threw ten punches.
The vault door held, but the surrounding walls couldn't take it. They tore open completely.
Even though the walls were reinforced with metal, they were ripped apart!
The surviving mobsters on the floor stared, eyes wide, completely stupefied.
Is this something a human can do?
Who is that monster?
Ronin kicked the fallen door aside and walked into the vault.
He took out two prepared duffel bags and began stuffing valuable items inside.
His primary focus was the Scarlet Eyes.
Unfortunately, there was only one pair.
According to their intel, three pairs were being sold at the Underground Auction, but they were auctioned on different days.
There was also one pair at the Southernpiece Auction House, the largest in Yorknew.
So, the best-case scenario for Ronin was collecting four pairs in Yorknew.
Absorbing the eyes would take time. Outside, sirens were wailing due to the deaths of the security team.
After filling the bags, Ronin walked out of the vault.
He didn't go upstairs immediately. Finding a spot out of sight, he cast Shadow Clone Jutsu.
The clone took one bag and headed for the main entrance. The main body took the bag with the Scarlet Eyes and ran upstairs.
A massive number of mobsters were drawn to the clone. Ronin's main body reached the fifth floor unnoticed. He opened a window and cast Earth Style: Ultralight-Weight Rock Technique on himself.
Massive Chakra drained as the Jutsu activated. He floated out the window!
Meanwhile, in the other direction, gunfire and explosions merged into a roar.
The Mafia had completely surrounded Ronin's Shadow Clone.
Surrounded alongside him were three others: Uvogin, Nobunaga, and Machi, who were dressed in suits to attend the auction.
Carrying a huge bag, Ronin's Shadow Clone had changed appearance again. He now looked exactly like Franklin.
Many people noticed something was off, but with the heavily injured guards identifying "Uvogin" (Ronin) as the attacker, they lumped the clone and the real Troupe members together as accomplices.
