Chapter 2 - A Person Can Be Ignorant, but Not an Idiot!

While Huo Linfei was in the middle of receiving an inheritance,

the two girls who had been chatting and laughing with Su Xiaoli earlier had already walked up to him. Yet no matter how they tried to greet him, Huo Linfei didn't respond at all, as if he hadn't noticed them.

This made the two girls a little annoyed.

No matter how handsome you are, you can't just ignore people like that, right?

That, in turn, piqued Su Xiaoli's curiosity.

Although her two plastic-surgery "besties" weren't exactly stunning, they weren't ugly either.

Even if you were aloof, you didn't have to go that far, did you?

Moreover, when Su Xiaoli had looked at Lin Fei earlier, she hadn't felt that he had a cold or distant personality at all.

But this small curiosity quickly vanished as a few thugs appeared nearby.

"It's Liu Kai!"

And Su Xiaoli soon realized that the other party seemed to have a very clear target.

They were coming straight for her.

Her heart tightened instantly.

Because a few days ago, after Liu Kai had seen her, he'd decided to pursue her.

She hadn't thought much of him at all.

Given her own experiences and background, she wanted to find a tall, strong, capable man.

And because her values were different from ordinary people's, she didn't even mind being a mistress.

But—

That didn't mean she'd lower her standards to just anyone.

Especially not someone like Liu Kai—muscle-bound, simple-minded, ugly yet delusionally confident, a classic piece of human trash.

Still, Su Xiaoli knew exactly who Liu Kai was.

In these few streets of Juxia City, he was a notorious local bully.

He had once broken a police officer's leg, costing the man his job, destroying his family, ruining his entire life.

Yet Liu Kai had been mysteriously released the very same day.

With a powerful backer, real fighting ability, and dozens of lackeys under him.

That left Su Xiaoli unsure how to deal with him.

All she could do was avoid him whenever possible.

But today, she'd still been found.

In truth, Su Xiaoli wasn't really afraid of him—because she herself was special.

She possessed a special ability.

If not for worrying that her abilities might be discovered by the authorities and that she'd be captured and dissected for research, she wouldn't have feared Liu Kai at all.

But right now, she just wanted to slip away without running into him.

However—

Just as she turned around, preparing to leave in a hurry, she noticed several more thugs approaching from the other side of the street.

They swaggered over.

"Damn it!"

Su Xiaoli instantly realized that Liu Kai had come prepared.

To stop her from escaping, he'd deliberately had his men block her from the other side!

Pedestrians on the street also noticed Liu Kai and the other thugs.

Having heard of Liu Kai's reputation as the local big boss, they didn't want any trouble and quickly made way for them.

Even the two girls who'd been with Su Xiaoli earlier quietly blended into the crowd and slipped away when they saw Liu Kai, leaving her completely alone.

This resulted in a scene where Su Xiaoli was surrounded from both sides by Liu Kai and his men, with no way out.

Su Xiaoli felt a bit despondent.

No one stood up for her—not even those two so-called friends.

But the disappointment was only fleeting.

After all, people were selfish. She'd understood that truth ever since she was young, when she'd had to rely on herself alone.

In her heart, she only harbored a faint hope—that a tall, strong man might appear to help her out of this predicament.

But perhaps she'd been disappointed for too long.

She'd always gotten by on her own.

So even when no one stood up for her, and even when those two surface-level friends had abandoned her and run off, Su Xiaoli didn't feel too dejected.

Just as she was thinking this—

she saw a tall figure with short, fiery red hair standing nearby.

"That's…"

It was the guy her two plastic-surgery sisters had just gone over to flirt with.

That head of flame-red short hair looked especially eye-catching under the streetlights and shop lights.

Without realizing it, she found herself walking over to Lin Fei.

By then, Liu Kai and his men had already closed in around them.

"Su Xiaoli, you sure know how to hide. Still dodging me today, huh?"

"That's right! Brother Kai's being so nice, and you still won't give him any face!"

"Oh? Found yourself a pretty boy, huh? Look at him—skinny and delicate. Who knows if he can even take one punch from Brother Kai!"

Listening to his lackeys' words, Liu Kai's face twisted into a smug, satisfied grin.

He'd been throwing his weight around for years—no one could control him.

"Kid, you know how to talk, huh?"

"Heh heh, look at that scrawny little thing—skinny as a pole. Compared to Brother Kai, he's nothing."

The lackeys kept sucking up to him.

Su Xiaoli looked at Lin Fei, but Lin Fei had his head slightly lowered, so she couldn't see his expression.

Liu Kai was famous for his fighting ability.

And he had plenty of men with him.

Even though Su Xiaoli held a sliver of hope that Lin Fei might stand up for her, she knew very well—

In this situation, even if Lin Fei wanted to help, the outcome would be exactly as the thugs said.

Lin Fei might be tall, but his build was nowhere near Liu Kai's.

And with so many of them—

If a fight broke out, he'd definitely be beaten badly.

The fact that Lin Fei was still here, even when her two "besties" had abandoned her, was already enough to make Su Xiaoli feel a touch of warmth.

But she didn't want to drag him into this mess.

"Even though I don't know your name, thank you," she whispered.

"You should leave quickly. The one they want is me…"

She spoke softly into Lin Fei's ear.

Even though everyone on the street had made way for Liu Kai, there were still quite a few people standing at a distance, watching.

Some whispered criticisms of Liu Kai's cruelty.

Others spoke louder, sympathizing with Su Xiaoli's situation.

The environment grew increasingly noisy.

Liu Kai and his men didn't hear what Su Xiaoli said. Instead, they grew angrier.

"Su Xiaoli, you really don't know when to quit! How dare you flirt right in front of me!"

"You think finding a pretty boy will back you up? If I don't break one of this pretty boy's legs today, I'll take his damn surname!"

As he spoke, he reached out to grab Lin Fei by the collar.

Su Xiaoli panicked.

She never expected that urging Lin Fei to leave would backfire like this.

"I can only use my ability now…"

She didn't want Lin Fei to get hurt.

Even though exposing her special powers might get her taken away by the authorities for experiments—

she had no choice now.

Suddenly—

Her expression froze as a clear, crisp sound rang in her ears.

*Snap!*

She saw Liu Kai's rough, calloused hand—stretched out just moments ago—being firmly grabbed by the wrist by Lin Fei.

At the same time, a light, slightly lazy yet contemptuous voice sounded.

"A person can be ignorant, but not—"

Lin Fei slowly raised his head, a confident, unruly smile on his face.

"—an idiot!"
