Chapter 80 - Chapter 74 Back To Reality

Chapter 74 — Back To Reality

After 2 days ...

The problem with paradise was that eventually reality remembered your address.

Jay realized that the second she woke up to Noah screaming outside the villa.

"WE'RE LEAVING TODAY?"

A pause.

Then louder:

"THIS IS EMOTIONALLY VIOLENT."

Jay groaned into the pillow immediately.

Beside her, Keifer laughed quietly.

That alone almost made her throw something at him.

"You're enjoying this suffering too much."

"You drool when you sleep."

Jay sat up instantly. "I absolutely do not."

Keifer looked suspiciously calm. "Whatever helps you heal."

"You're a terrible person."

"And yet," he replied smoothly, "you kissed me voluntarily."

Jay stared at him blankly for three whole seconds before grabbing the nearest pillow and launching it directly into his face.

Unfortunately, he caught that too.

Annoying.

Very annoying.

Keifer smirked while Jay immediately stood up and walked toward the balcony before her brain could continue replaying last night like an emotionally unstable slideshow.

Because the kiss had been a mistake.

A very good mistake.

Which honestly made it worse.

The ocean stretched brightly under the morning sun while multiple luxury yachts floated near the island shore now.

Reality.

Disgusting.

Jay crossed her arms against the balcony railing quietly.

Then suddenly warm hands wrapped around her waist from behind.

Jay froze slightly.

Keifer rested his chin lightly against her shoulder.

"No running away this morning?"

"I'm considering murder actually."

"Still romantic."

Jay rolled her eyes but didn't move away.

Which was becoming a dangerous habit lately.

Down below on the beach, Noah was currently laying dramatically across luggage while Matthew argued with airport staff over something on the phone.

Aurora stood nearby drinking iced coffee while Chloe quietly helped organize bags.

Sebastian looked like he belonged on the cover of a billionaire magazine while simply standing still.

Honestly offensive behavior.

"You know," Keifer said quietly beside her, "normal people usually act awkward after kissing someone."

Jay looked forward calmly. "Good thing I'm abnormal."

"I noticed."

Silence settled again after that.

Comfortable silence this time.

And honestly?

That scared Jay more than fighting ever did.

Because comfort was dangerous.

Comfort made people stay.

And people staying had never ended particularly well in her life.

Keifer noticed her mood shift immediately.

He always noticed.

Annoying.

"You're thinking too loudly again," he murmured.

Jay sighed dramatically. "Stop understanding me emotionally."

"No."

"Rude."

Keifer smiled against her shoulder slightly before finally letting go.

"Come on, Watson. We should probably return to civilization before Noah starts another concert."

Too late.

From below, Noah's voice echoed across the island.

"🎵 LEAVING ON A TRAUMATIC YAAAAACHTTTTT~ 🎵"

Matthew looked one inconvenience away from homicide.

"I'm begging someone to sedate him."

"He's part of the ecosystem now," Adam replied.

Jay snorted quietly before finally walking back inside to pack the last of her things.

The villa looked strange now.

Less temporary.

Like memories had settled into the walls already.

Keifer watched her silently while she folded clothes aggressively into her bag.

"You fold shirts like you're angry at fabric."

"I am angry at fabric."

"That feels emotionally deeper than necessary."

Jay zipped her bag shut dramatically. "Everything about me is emotionally deeper than necessary."

"That," Keifer admitted, "is true."

She looked at him briefly after that.

And for one dangerous second—

Jay almost smiled softly.

Then immediately ruined it herself by throwing his hoodie at his face.

"Carry your own things, rich boy."

"Your affection language is abuse."

"My affection language is surviving."

The teasing left the room quietly after that.

Not awkward.

Just softer now.

Keifer stepped closer slowly.

Close enough that Jay could smell ocean salt and his cologne again.

Dangerous combination.

"You know," he said quietly, "you didn't answer something yesterday."

Jay narrowed her eyes slightly. "That sounds suspicious already."

"When I said there wasn't a version of you I wouldn't want."

Jay's expression shifted faintly.

Tiny shift.

But Keifer noticed it anyway.

"You didn't argue."

Jay looked away first.

Which honestly felt louder than any answer.

Then downstairs another scream echoed.

"WHO PACKED SIX BLACK SHIRTS THAT LOOK IDENTICAL?"

"That's literally all Sebastian owns," Aurora replied.

"They're different emotionally," Sebastian defended calmly.

Jay laughed suddenly under her breath.

And Keifer swore that sound was becoming his favorite thing on earth.

The trip back felt strangely quieter.

Not silent.

Noah physically couldn't allow silence to exist naturally.

But quieter emotionally.

Like everyone knew something had shifted between Jay and Keifer after last night.

Noah definitely knew.

Unfortunately.

Jay was sitting near the yacht railing wearing sunglasses while trying to enjoy peace for at least thirty consecutive seconds.

Impossible.

Absolutely impossible.

Because Noah suddenly appeared beside her dramatically.

"So," he whispered loudly.

Jay didn't even look at him. "No."

"You kissed him."

"Noah."

"You leaned first apparently."

Jay slowly lowered her sunglasses.

"Who told you that?"

"Aurora."

"Traitor."

Noah gasped dramatically. "YOU ADMIT IT."

Jay shoved his face away aggressively.

Noah stumbled backward into Matthew accidentally.

Matthew looked exhausted instantly. "Why are you touching me emotionally?"

Meanwhile across the yacht, Keifer sat beside Sebastian quietly while watching Jay argue with Noah again.

Sebastian took a sip of coffee.

"You look happy."

Keifer looked suspicious immediately. "Why does everybody keep observing me like wildlife?"

"Because you smile differently around her."

Keifer looked away toward the ocean.

Unfortunately…

Sebastian wasn't wrong.

Because something about last night changed things.

Not fully.

Jay still had walls tall enough to qualify as government protection systems.

But now Keifer knew something important.

She wanted him too.

Even if it terrified her.

And honestly?

That knowledge alone felt dangerous.

"Just don't hurt her," Sebastian said eventually.

No threats.

No dramatic intimidation.

Just quiet seriousness.

Keifer looked at him carefully after that.

"I know."

Sebastian nodded once slowly.

Like he believed him.

Which somehow mattered more than Keifer expected.

Then Noah suddenly screamed from the other side of the yacht again.

"THEY'RE DOING EYE CONTACT LIKE DIVORCED PARENTS."

Sebastian closed his eyes briefly.

"Sometimes," he murmured quietly, "I dream of throwing him into the ocean."

"Normal reaction," Keifer replied immediately.

By evening, the city skyline finally appeared in the distance.

Reality again.

Buildings.

Noise.

Responsibilities.

Jay stared at it quietly from the railing while wind moved through her hair.

Something heavy settled inside her chest suddenly.

Not sadness exactly.

Just…

Awareness.

Because islands were temporary.

Healing moments were temporary.

And eventually people returned to real life.

Keifer walked beside her silently before resting his arms against the railing too.

"You look like you're about to fight the skyline."

"I might."

"You think too hard whenever you get quiet."

Jay glanced sideways at him slightly. "You notice too much."

"You hide badly."

"That's offensive."

Keifer smiled faintly before looking toward the city lights ahead.

Then softly:

"Come home with me tonight."

Jay blinked once.

There it was.

Danger.

Not the kiss.

Not the flirting.

This.

The terrifying softness of somebody asking her to stay.

Jay looked forward again quietly.

The old version of herself would've joked immediately.

Deflected.

Escaped.

But now?

Now she just felt tired at the thought of leaving him again.

Which honestly felt worse.

Keifer watched her carefully.

Not pressuring.

Just waiting.

And after a long silence—

Jay sighed dramatically.

"You're emotionally exhausting."

"That's not a no."

Jay glared at him weakly.

Then finally muttered:

"…Fine."

Keifer smiled slowly after that.

And somehow that smile felt more dangerous than the ocean ever had.

Because Jay had survived loneliness for years.

But Keifer Watson?

Keifer was becoming something far more terrifying.

Home.

Because the scariest part of falling in love isn't the kiss… it's the moment someone starts feeling like the place your heart returns to naturally.
