Chapter 36 - Chapter 34 preparation for the masquerade

Masquerade party day .

Morning didn't arrive quietly.

It never did in that mansion.

The sunlight filtered through the tall glass windows, soft and golden—but inside, the energy was already alive.

Not loud.

Not chaotic.

Not yet.

But there was something in the air.

A kind of tension that didn't come from fear.

It came from anticipation.

Jay stood in front of the mirror.

Still.

Silent.

Observing.

Her wine-red gown rested perfectly against her frame, the fabric catching the light with every slight movement. It wasn't flashy. It didn't need to be.

It was controlled.

Like her.

Her fingers brushed against the edge of her white masquerade mask resting on the table.

For a moment, she didn't pick it up.

Didn't wear it.

Just looked at it.

Her reflection looked back—

calm, unreadable, untouchable.

But her eyes…

They were thinking.

Always thinking.

A knock came.

Without waiting for an answer, the door opened.

Sebastian leaned against the frame.

"Well," he said slowly, scanning her from head to toe, "that's unfair."

Jay didn't turn.

"You're still here?" she replied calmly.

"I'm appreciating the view."

"Appreciate from a distance."

He smirked.

"Dangerous tonight, aren't you?"

Now she turned.

And smiled.

"Always."

In another room—

Aurora stood in front of her mirror, adjusting the fall of her gown, fingers steady but precise.

Silver-grey.

Sharp.

Elegant.

Her hair was set perfectly, her makeup soft but defined.

She looked at herself—

then smirked.

"Yeah… this works."

Music played softly in the background, but her focus stayed on the reflection.

Not nervous.

Not unsure.

Just ready.

Chloe's room was a completely different story.

"NO, THIS SIDE IS NOT SYMMETRICAL."

She turned her head left, then right, adjusting her mask again.

"Why is this happening to me today of all days?"

A pause.

Then she looked at herself again—

and smiled.

"Okay… never mind. I look amazing."

Downstairs—

Percy stood in front of a full-length mirror.

Adjusting his collar.

Again.

And again.

And again.

"No," he muttered. "This angle is wrong."

He tilted his head slightly.

Better.

A smile formed.

"Perfect."

Then—

he took out his phone.

Checked again.

"Still perfect."

In the living area—

Leo sat calmly, already dressed, one arm resting on the couch.

No rush.

No panic.

Just quiet readiness.

He glanced at the time—

then toward the staircase.

"They're late."

"Fashion takes time," Chloe's voice echoed as she walked down.

Leo raised an eyebrow.

"Or indecision."

"Excuse me?"

Aurora followed soon after, composed, confident.

Percy turned—

and froze.

"…okay," he said slowly, "this is competition."

Aurora smirked. "You were never in the race."

"Rude."

Sebastian came down next.

Effortless.

Like he didn't try—

but still got it right.

Always.

His eyes scanned the room—

then paused.

"Where's Jay?"

As if on cue—

she walked in.

Silence.

Not forced.

Not dramatic.

Just… natural.

Because everyone felt it.

Jay didn't look at anyone immediately.

She walked in calmly, heels echoing softly.

Her presence didn't demand attention.

It took it.

Percy blinked.

"…okay, now I'm not even trying anymore."

Chloe nodded. "Same."

Sebastian just smiled slightly.

"Of course."

Jay stopped near the center of the room.

Her gaze moved across all of them.

Measuring.

Observing.

Approving.

"Ready?" Leo asked.

She tilted her head slightly.

"Are you?"

Before anyone could answer—

Mia's voice echoed from the entrance.

"If you all are done admiring yourselves—"

The Justice Veil walked in.

Together.

Mia.

Adam.

Sarah.

Noah.

Their energy was different.

Not loud.

Not flashy.

But solid.

Grounded.

Dangerous in a quieter way.

Noah looked around.

"…okay, we look expensive."

"Because we are," Mia replied.

Jay's lips curved slightly.

"Good."

A moment passed.

Then Adam spoke—

"We should leave."

That shifted everything.

"Cars?" Percy asked immediately.

"Obviously important," Chloe added.

Jay turned slightly.

Her tone calm.

Decisive.

"Everyone goes separately."

A pause.

Then—

no one argued.

Because that made sense.

Of course it did.

"Justice Veil stays together," she added.

Mia nodded instantly.

"Obviously."

Now—

the real decisions began.

Aurora crossed her arms slightly.

"So… who's driving what?"

A small smile appeared on Jay's face.

Finally—

something interesting.

"I'm taking the Mercedes-Benz AMG C63."

she said simply.

No explanation.

No justification.

She didn't need one.

Sebastian nodded.

"Fits."

Aurora smirked.

"Then I'm taking the Mercedes-Benz E63 S AMG."

Percy turned immediately.

"Oh, so we're competing now?"

Jay didn't react.

But her eyes flicked toward Aurora.

Just for a second.

Acknowledging.

Percy stretched his arms slightly.

"Fine. I'll take something louder."

A pause.

Then—

"The Bugatti Chiron."

Chloe laughed.

"That is so you."

"Thank you."

Chloe flipped her hair slightly.

"I'll take the white Audi R8."

Sebastian tilted his head.

"Then I'll take the Audi R8 as well."

"Copycat," Chloe muttered.

"Better taste," he replied.

Leo spoke last.

"I'll take the BMW M4."

Simple.

Clean.

Expected.

Mia looked at Adam.

"We're not even pretending, right?"

"No," Adam said calmly.

"Range Rover," Sarah added.

Noah grinned. "Group entry."

Jay nodded once.

"Good."

That was it.

No more discussion.

No hesitation.

Everything was decided.

Outside—

the cars waited.

Engines silent.

But ready.

One by one—

they walked out.

The evening air was cooler now.

The sky darker.

The world quieter.

But the driveway—

felt alive.

Jay walked straight to her Mercedes-Benz AMG C63.

No pause.

No second look.

Aurora moved toward the Mercedes-Benz E63 S AMG, her expression calm but sharp.

Percy practically glided toward the Bugatti Chiron, smiling like he owned the night.

Chloe stepped toward the white Audi R8, already glowing under the lights.

Sebastian followed toward his Audi R8—

unbothered.

Relaxed.

Confident.

Leo reached the BMW M4, unlocking it without a word.

The Justice Veil leaned back on the Range rover ,smirking like they knew something which nobody did .😏

Professional .

Chaos.
