Chapter 95 - Chapter 95 Leng Yu's Past

  Chapter 95 Leng Yu's Past

  In the far north,

snow blanketed the land, goose-feather blizzards swirling, and the frigid land was devoid of life.

A woman in her early twenties walked through the swirling snow, leaving her footprints in the ground.

Leng Yu struggled to walk, even as a sixth-ring Soul Emperor, the extreme cold of the far north was still incredibly difficult.

She dared not use too much of her soul power, as it was mostly used to resist the cold. If her soul power were depleted, the extreme low temperatures alone could easily kill her.

Therefore, even if she walked slowly, she would not use her soul power to increase her speed.

She continued walking step by step, guided by the direction her heart led her.

Gradually, she ventured deeper into the far north. She didn't know if she had reached the core area or somewhere else; she just kept moving forward.

Originally, she had planned to have an elder from her family accompany her, but for some reason, a voice deep within her told her that she had to come alone.

This was a response from the depths of her bloodline, and she couldn't refuse her own heart.

Moreover, her sense of belonging to her family wasn't that strong; basically, apart from her sister, no one else from the family would likely come. Besides, she disliked trouble, and she knew her sister was very busy lately, so she didn't want to bother her.

As a student of Shrek Academy, she possessed high standards and had been to many places; as long as she was careful, she should be fine in the far north.

After walking for a long time, a small mountain range appeared ahead. She originally planned to detour around it, but just as she was about to take a step, she heard a piercing cry.

The cry almost echoed throughout the entire sky, and she could hear it clearly even from a great distance behind the mountain.

After much deliberation, she decided to go and see what was going on. After all, judging from the sound, she was still some distance away, and even if it was dangerous, she should be able to escape.

Reaching the mountaintop with great difficulty, the higher altitude offered a panoramic view of the area behind the mountain.

Not far away, two colossal beasts were locked in battle. The sheer force of their clash exerted immense pressure even on Leng Yu, who was quite a distance away.

Upon closer inspection, she recognized them as a massive wolf-like spirit beast and a bird-like spirit beast.

The wolf-like spirit beast was likely a Bloodthirsty Ice Wolf, one of the most ferocious spirit beasts of the Far North, possessing a cultivation level of 90,000 years.

On the other side was a giant ice bird, a common spirit beast in the Far North, but this ice bird boasted a cultivation level of 80,000 years. This was unbelievable. Ice birds, a type of spirit beast, were quite common and weak in the far north, almost always traveling in flocks. Yet, there was only one of them, and it possessed a cultivation level of 80,000 years.

Although this was the first time Leng Yu had ever seen a real spirit beast like this, she was, after all, a student of Shrek Academy, and her family was an important family within the Spirit Pagoda. Her knowledge of spirit beasts was very solid.

Therefore, she could judge the cultivation level and species of these two spirit beasts.

However, what she didn't understand was that this 80,000-year-old ice bird couldn't possibly be a match for this Bloodthirsty Ice Wolf. After all, the other was inherently warlike, and its bloodline was far stronger.

Although this ice bird possessed a cultivation level of 80,000 years, it was ultimately not skilled in combat; reaching this level was already a miracle.

It could easily have used its flight advantage to escape, and the Bloodthirsty Ice Wolf wouldn't have been able to catch it. Yet, it chose to fight the Bloodthirsty Ice Wolf at low altitude.

This was incomprehensible, at least in Leng Yu's comprehension. Low-altitude combat was completely squandering the ice bird's own advantages.

She could clearly see that every time the ice bird clashed with the Bloodthirsty Ice Wolf, it suffered a loss, almost getting injured.

Even so, the ice bird continued its relentless probing and attacks.

After observing for a while, Leng Yu seemed to understand something. The ice bird seemed to have been standing in front of the cave the whole time, protecting something inside.      Even when it tried to block with its own body, even when it was injured each time, it still refused to let the Bloodthirsty Ice Wolf advance an inch.

The Bloodthirsty Ice Wolf, a soul beast that craved battle and brutal violence, preferred to enter the cave rather than kill the ice bird in front of it first.

It knew the ice bird was difficult to kill, since it couldn't fly, so it stubbornly wanted to enter the cave.

Leng Yu was puzzled. What was inside that made these two soul beasts treat each other this way?

But at that moment, the depths of her bloodline trembled even more. The things in that cave weren't just attracting soul beasts; they were also incredibly attractive to her.

She could clearly feel the pulsation deep within her bloodline, and it grew stronger, seemingly guiding her forward.

But with the two powerful spirit beasts locked in a standoff, she had no way to enter.

Just as she was at her wit's end, the Bloodthirsty Ice Wolf suddenly retreated, going back at least several hundred feet.

The ice bird watched it warily but didn't follow, continuing to guard the cave entrance firmly.

But at that moment, two more Bloodthirsty Ice Wolves arrived from the other side. These two were slightly weaker, but both still had a cultivation level of ten thousand years, one around twenty thousand years and the other around fifty thousand years.

Right, Leng Yu remembered, although Bloodthirsty Ice Wolves weren't large-scale pack-living spirit beasts, they liked to travel in small groups of two or three.

Basically, it was a family-based coordinated action.

But this wasn't what surprised Leng Yu the most; one of the Bloodthirsty Ice Wolves was carrying three ice bird cubs in its mouth.

Leng Yu's heart skipped a beat. If she wasn't mistaken, these were definitely the ice bird's chicks.

Sure enough, upon seeing the cub carried in the Bloodthirsty Ice Wolf's mouth, the ice bird let out a mournful cry, yet remained steadfastly guarding the cave entrance, refusing to yield.

Leng Yu was now truly puzzled. What exactly was this ice bird guarding that made it so persistent, refusing to budge even with its chick in its mouth? The

Bloodthirsty Ice Wolf was incredibly clever; it stomped on one of the chicks, gradually increasing its pressure.

The immense pain of its claws digging into the chick's flesh and the crushing, suffocating sensation caused the little ice bird to cry out in anguish.

These cries were not merely shouts; they transformed into sharp knives, piercing the heart of the ice bird.

Indeed, it was its child, how could it stand idly by?

Even in its despair, the ice bird did not leave the cave, steadfastly remaining there. But then,

the Bloodthirsty Ice Wolf's fierce eyes gained even more malice. With a single, powerful claw, it sent the newborn cub to meet its maker in an instant.

The tiny cub died at the hands of the Bloodthirsty Ice Wolf.

The next second, the wolf tossed it into the air, then opened its gaping maw and swallowed it whole.

Blood trickled from its mouth; it bit down twice and swallowed it.
