Chapter 9 - Defeat

Allow yourselves the freedom to fail. A youth's path is plagued by turmoil

With a quick exhale Alith sent an attack from bellow, hitting the demon in the chin, knocking it out cold. He glanced at the ground where his grandfather fell. Was that thing even his grandfather anymore? 'This has to wait, I need to focus', Alith though looking down at his hand stained by a deep red. He never though blood was so viscous, and sticky

'It's not life threatening, if attended to', Alith told himself. The pain slowed his movements. He'll have to avoid close range fighting. A shame, as it seemed to be working. His main weapon was still the sands, he'll just have to relly more heavily on it.

"Alumin, leave this place at once," Alith comanded " this is not your fight, you are too young". Alith hearn no responce. Alumin just stared back at his brother, paralyzed.

'This night is too much for him. Ha, I'm not sure it's not too much for me too. He wasn't raised to carry such a weight. This burden is mine'. Alith inhaled deeply, this momentarily severed the connection to the sands, leaving him open.

Alith was still in fine enough shape to dodge an attack from this distance. The red mage kept on cackling, as he condensed fire into a single point. Such control over ones magic required a tremendous connection with ones element. Does it derive it's connection from the ancient gods, as the sarin do?

The fire was not targeted at Alith. It was heading straight to Alumin. His brother was panting and shacking. Before though could reach him he jumped towards his brother. The fire pierced his gut.

Alith glanced at his brother. He was a sobbing mess. He was safe.

Finally he could let go of the breath, raising a dense cloud of sand. A smokescreen to make them harder targets. Alith again exhaled sharply propelling both Alumin and Ghedden far away on a cloud of sand. He then, more gently raised another cloud to help them land softly. He could hear his brother screaming. That scream was almost more painful than his wounds. Almost.

Alith would most definitely die now. He just had to take everyone down with him first.
