(Go Read Elysia Cat, holy peak)
After hearing Mobius's words, Mei was still somewhat surprised and couldn't help but ask.
"Turning people into Honkai beasts?"
"That kind of thing... Would the higher-ups agree to it?"
"What do those people know? Just because they won't let you do it, you don't do it?"
A dangerous glint flashed in Mobius's eyes.
"Well, but only as a last resort..."
Some things might not be needed, but it's necessary to have them prepared.
No one can truly predict the future; circumstances are ever-changing, and being prepared early is best.
"Heh, that day will come, Mei. You should know that."
Mei nodded, accepted the research materials from Mobius, briefly considered if there were any balancing methods, and then left.
It was time to find Kevin.
…
"Mei!"
The white-haired man waved to her with a smile.
The corners of Mei's mouth lifted involuntarily. "Sorry to keep you waiting, Kevin. I was just discussing some matters with Dr. Mobius."
"No problem. Let's go eat."
Kevin grinned, and the two naturally took each other's hand.
…
No matter how busy Kevin usually was, if she had time, he would always make time to be with her.
Mei knew she was lucky, luckier than most.
Leaving aside her heaven-sent talents...
To have someone who always loved her and a goal she was wholeheartedly dedicated to—this was already what countless people dreamed of.
Yet she often felt she was just ordinary...
…
While a single person could accomplish earth-shattering deeds, a person was still just a person in the end.
Everyone is an ordinary person; that never changes.
…
Fingers intertwined, the two walked through the base corridors. The comrades they passed along the way cast well-meaning glances their way.
The envy of others.
For this young couple to be able to sit down and share a proper meal together was already a rare enough occurrence.
He said proudly, pushing the larger portion toward Mei.
Seeing the small mountain of food piled on her plate, Mei couldn't help but laugh. "Are you trying to fatten me up like a pig?"
"Eat more."
Kevin was already eagerly shoveling a mouthful of rice. "You've gotten thinner lately," he mumbled, his words unclear.
"Careful, I might gain weight."
Mei playfully poked his forehead with her chopsticks.
Kevin swallowed his food and said with a serious, smiling expression, "Don't worry, I can still lift you just fine."
"Alright, alright..."
"...And you, you should cut down on instant noodles too."
Mei suddenly remembered this.
"Haha..."
Kevin scratched his head awkwardly.
Many comrades probably found it hard to imagine that the stern Captain Kevin could show such a silly side.
"...I'll be more careful. You need to take care of yourself too; you've got dark circles recently."
Kevin spoke with genuine concern.
"Of course. I won't let my boyfriend worry."
"Um, Mei... who told you about me eating instant noodles?"
"Elysia and Vya told me."
"...I see."
Kevin thought about it. There was no helping getting reported, and besides, those two were not people to be trifled with...
Kevin wept (┳◇┳).JPG
Scolded by the girlfriend, folks.
The two shared a smile and continued to enjoy their rare time together. The noise around them seemed to fade away.
Just as Kevin and Mei were happily eating...
Klein had also brought the newcomers, Fuxi and Nuwa, to meet Mobius.
Mobius wasn't picky; having some greenhorns willing to come was good enough.
She then had Vya take them around the base, so it would be easier to have the sisters run errands in the future.
"Don't worry, Sister Mobius! Vya will definitely complete the mission!"
"Big sisters, follow me!"
Vya led them out...
The moment the automatic door opened, Nuwa let out a long sigh. "Goodness, the Doctor is even more terrifying than the rumors..."
She muttered quietly.
"How can that be? Sister Mobius is very nice!"
Vya said.
Fuxi looked thoughtfully at Vya. "You and Dr. Mobius... are close?"
"Mhm!"
Vya nodded vigorously. "Sister Mobius often gives Vya candy!"
"Really?"
Nuwa asked, hardly able to imagine it.
"Mhm, of course it's true!"
Vya continued leading them forward.
Everyone along the way greeted Vya.
Nuwa and Fuxi exchanged a look of surprise.
Right then, the two sets of twins began to reevaluate Vya. This little one was genuinely well-connected, and so popular within the base too.
"Vya, long time no see! Where have you been playing these past few days?"
Hearing someone call her, Vya turned to see it was Carole.
"Wow, it's Sister Carole! Long time no see!"
Vya looked behind Carole but didn't see Hua.
"Where's Sister Hua?"
"Hua's in the training room. You know how she is."
Vya nodded seriously. "Mhm, Vya will remind Sister Hua to take care of herself."
"Mhm, Vya is so good."
Carole ruffled Vya's hair, only then noticing the twins. "And these two are?"
"Oh, this is Sister Fuxi and Sister Nuwa! They're new researchers. Sister Mobius asked me to show them around."
Nuwa enthusiastically extended a hand. "Hello! I'm Nuwa, and this is my sister Fuxi."
"Carole."
The girl cheerfully shook her hand. "I'm free right now, want to tour together? I know the base really well."
Nuwa said, figuring Carole seemed to be around their age. Hoping to get along smoothly—these were all future connections...
"Thank you."
Fuxi also expressed her gratitude.
"No problem, no problem. Fuxi and Nuwa... those are names from Shenzhou, right?"
"That's right."
Nuwa answered.
"Actually, I'm half Shenzhou myself. After all, I grew up in Sapphire City."
Carole said.
"But Sapphire City isn't..."
Her mouth was faster than her mind, as usual for Nuwa.
"Nuwa!"
Fuxi quickly nudged Nuwa. Her sister misspeaking happened often.
"Ah, I'm sorry..."
Realizing her blunder, Nuwa hurriedly apologized.
"It's fine. It's been a long time, after all."
Carole sighed. Good thing Hua wasn't here, or she'd probably be reminded of sad memories too.
After an awkward silence, Vya suddenly tugged Carole's hand. "Sister Carole, can you take us to find Sister Hua? Vya misses her!"
Carole's expression brightened again. "Sure! But if she's doing extra training again, you'll have to help me convince her to rest."
The four headed toward the training area. Nuwa whispered to Fuxi, "Sis, did I put my foot in my mouth again..."
Fuxi sighed and patted her sister's shoulder. "When will you ever fix this habit?"
Hearing their conversation, Carole looked back with a smile. "It really doesn't matter. Everyone here... has things they'd rather not talk about. Don't worry about it too much."
Her gaze swept over the happily skipping Vya. Well, perhaps except for certain bundles of sunshine...
Along the way, Carole and the twins chatted quite pleasantly. Next, she planned to introduce them to Durandal...
