Cedric was reading.
He had brought the documents to the dining room because his office felt closed in today and the dining room at least had good light in the morning.
Bennett was at the other end of the table doing what Bennett did.
They had been sitting in the same room even after Arthur left.
This was normal.
Then Arthur's voice came through the ceiling.
"Bennett!"
Both of them looked up.
"Cedric!"
Bennett was moving before Cedric had finished processing the volume. He dropped his pen and was out the door, taking the stairs two at a time, and Cedric followed, leaving the papers on the table.
He took the stairs fast.
Third floor. Fourth floor... and here he paused for half a second because nobody used the fourth floor. Their parents' rooms were up here and it hadn't been for years. Nobody had touched anything.
The door at the end of the hall was open.
Weak light coming through it.
Cedric walked in.
