Rain had been falling since dawn.
Not heavy. Not light either. Just long, fine drizzle that made the air feel damp and the sky look heavy.
Sophia stood in front of the window in the central room, gazing at the wet garden. Her hand instinctively rubbed her belly. It had only been a few weeks, but she was starting to feel her body truly changing. Fatigue came faster. Emotions were more sensitive. And fear… felt more real.
Not fear for herself.
But for the tiny life now depending on her.
Behind her, Adrian was talking to the head of security.
"I want the in-house team rotated," he said firmly. "Everyone who's been on duty for more than three months is to be replaced."
"We've already vetted their backgrounds, Sir."
"I don't want even the smallest gap."
Sophia turned around. "Adrian…"
She cut herself off when she saw her husband's expression. It wasn't just protective. It was tense. Alert.
As if he were waiting for something to explode.
