Confrontation didn't begin with raised voices.

It began with timing.

And timing had finally run out.

The meeting was scheduled without commentary.

Mandatory. Limited attendance. No substitutes.

When the invite landed, there were no questions.

Only confirmations.

"They know what this is," Adrian said, glancing at the attendee list.

"Yes," I replied. "Because resistance always ends in confrontation."

The room felt different when we arrived.

Not tense.

Compressed.

Airless with anticipation.

People took their seats quickly. Devices placed face-down. Notes prepared but untouched.

No small talk.

No delays.

"They've stopped pretending," Adrian murmured.

"Yes," I replied. "Pretending requires space."

Ethan arrived last.

Not late.

Deliberately on time.

He took his seat without acknowledgment, posture composed, expression neutral.

Calculated.

He was ready for confrontation.

Just not the kind he was about to face.

I began without ceremony.

Not with accusation.
