Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Future Prospects

Although that is what was said, empty talk is meaningless; everything must ultimately come down to a detailed plan.

After all, what he would face in the future was more than a decade of life on the continent of Essos, across The Narrow Sea.

That certainly wouldn't be a pleasant trip, but a true test of survival. He had to prepare everything beforehand to cope easily.

First and foremost, the most fundamental thing was money. This was the highest priority.

He absolutely could not wander between the Free Cities with Daenerys like Viserys did in the original plot, begging for survival like a beggar. He did not want to experience that kind of precarious, harsh life, sleeping under the stars.

But making money was precisely the trickiest problem—how could a powerless little kid inside The Red Keep accumulate a huge sum, enough to sustain him for the next dozen years or even longer, right under everyone's nose?

After all, he wasn't like those omnipotent transmigrator predecessors who mastered the production of soap, glass, gunpowder, or modern techniques for creating wealth from thin air. He was just an ordinary NPC who knew nothing.

It seemed this matter would have to be planned carefully and slowly.

The most direct and tempting plan was still to find a way to empty the Targaryen Family's Royal Treasury when he left King's Landing.

As the royal house that ruled Westeros for nearly three hundred years, they certainly had ancestral treasures accumulated over time. It was important to remember that the person currently sitting on the iron throne was not Robert of the extravagant and unrestrained Baratheon family yet.

The forty thousand Gold Dragons he awarded to the champion of a single tourney was enough to bankrupt a noble house. Moreover, it was his future extravagance that would leave the iron throne with mountainous debts.

However, his current cheap old man, "The Mad King" Aerys, although quite insane, didn't seem to have excessive expenses apart from his costly hobby of producing wildfire.

Therefore, the national treasury should hold tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands, of Gold Dragons.

If he could take away most of this money, and perhaps take a few precious dragon bones to sell in Essos, then even if he brought several people with him, the Gold Dragons should be enough to sustain them until the day the dragons hatched.

Speaking of debt, he vaguely remembered that the Baratheon Dynasty later owed the Iron Bank a huge sum, but this was likely because the Iron Bank had supported Robert during the Roberts Rebellion.

Therefore, when Viserys prepares to attack Westeros in the future, he might consider "visiting" the Iron Bank and reclaiming their "investment" in the traitor, principal and interest included.

Money is the foundation for survival, but people are the key to success or failure.

During the remaining time, he must make good use of his identity as Prince Viserys to befriend and win over a few highly skilled and relatively trustworthy members of the Kingsguard.

After all, he was a true Targaryen Prince, and his bloodline was the greatest rallying cry, especially since Robert would eventually sit on the iron throne partially due to his one-quarter Targaryen blood.

His primary target was Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning.

Having this universally acknowledged strongest swordsman follow Viserys was far better than having him later go to the Tower of Joy to protect Lyanna Stark, only to be ambushed by Howland Reed and die unjustly at the hands of Eddard Stark.

Thinking back, protecting Lyanna seemed redundant in the first place.

How could Eddard Stark, the famously honorable Duke of the North, murder his own sister? It was even less likely that he would harm Jon Snow after she entrusted him with the child's protection on her deathbed.

Of course, he wasn't trying to protect the potential core of "a song of ice and fire"—Jon Snow.

On the contrary, he must watch him breathe his last in the future, and then use the hottest Dragon Fire to completely cremate his body, burning it to ashes.

Viserys wanted to see if, even then, he could resurrect from a pile of ashes and put on those nauseating heroic performances again.

He didn't really want to take "the Bold" Barristan with him; he should just follow the original story. Viserys only needed to learn swordsmanship from him.

Because Barristan seemed to like Arthur Dayne's sister, Ashara Dayne, but she was already reserved for him. After all, the other female leads were much younger than him, and he couldn't act like a beast too early.

Ashara was a good choice, and he could change her tragic ending. Viserys guessed that her child in the original plot must have been Brandon's.

It was likely that Brandon Stark had been with her after the Tourney at Harrenhal, as there was mention that Brandon and Catelyn's relationship soured because of Ashara.

Furthermore, Brandon was a famous rake at the time. He definitely had to change this ending; a dead Brandon was a good Brandon.

As for the others, like Commander Gerold Hightower, he would likely be protecting The Mad King closely. Lewyn Martell would probably be protecting his niece, Elia Martell.

As for "the White Bull" Gerold Hightower and Oswell Whent, he would decide based on the situation, needing to first test their loyalty, especially since they would frequently face assassination attempts and the temptations of the Baratheon Dynasty.

Another person he could win over was Jonothor Darry, who in the original story fled to Essos with Viserys and the newborn Daenerys.

As for Jaime Lannister, he was not yet a member of the Kingsguard; he joined when "the White Bull" Gerold Hightower was the Commander.

He was appointed by The Mad King specifically to spite Tywin Lannister.

Besides winning over powerful allies, his own strength was equally important.

There were still two years before the war broke out, and this precious time for growth must not be wasted. He had to start practicing swordsmanship diligently right now.

The Targaryen Family's ancestral valyrian steel sword, "Dark Sister," was currently held by Brynden Rivers, the Bloodraven. He would personally retrieve it in the future.

As for the other famous sword, "Blackfyre," although the world believed it had been lost, the memory fragments of the original Viserys told him it was hidden in the King's bedroom. He must take it when the time comes.

As for why Rhaegar did not wield this divine weapon during the Battle of the Trident, there was likely only one reason: Aerys II, whose paranoia had reached an unbelievable degree.

He trusted no one, including his heir, Rhaegar.

He preferred to hide the sword deeply and simultaneously ordered the pyromancers to manufacture more wildfire, secretly burying it beneath every street in King's Landing, preparing to drag the entire city's population down with him in defeat.

This was one of the reasons Viserys didn't want to save any of the Targaryen Family members—the madness in their genes was too unstable.

In the original plot, if not for "Kingslayer" Jaime Lannister, all of King's Landing and its hundreds of thousands of residents would have already been reduced to scorched earth by the green flames of wildfire.

Getting back to Rhaegar Targaryen, this cheap older brother of mine was also a poor wretch haunted by prophetic nightmares.

He stubbornly believed that "the Dragon must have three heads" and obsessively thought this prophecy meant he had to have three children.

After Elia Martell gave birth to Aegon and was physically unable to bear more children, he shockingly took Lyanna Stark, who was already betrothed to Robert Baratheon, immediately after winning the "Queen of Love and Beauty" crown at the Tourney at Harrenhal.

He completely disregarded the political tsunami this action would cause, all just to have a child of prophecy.

However, to be fair, Lyanna Stark was probably not entirely coerced.

Rhaegar possessed the purest Targaryen bloodline, silver hair and violet eyes, handsome and elegant, with an inherent melancholic royal aura. And Lyanna, as the "Wolf Maiden," had the "Wolf Blood" flowing through her veins, naturally loving freedom and being untamed.

In contrast, Robert Baratheon, although tall, powerful, and exceptionally brave, had a rough appearance. More fatally, he frequented brothels in his youth and already had a bastard daughter while fostered in the Vale.

It was reasonable that a proud and romantic woman like Lyanna would look down on a man like Robert and turn her affection toward Rhaegar. Unfortunately, this brief romance ignited the fuse for the great war across the Seven Kingdoms.

However, "Littlefinger" Petyr was right when he said chaos is a ladder. If all these Targaryens died, Viserys would become the first in line of succession.

Therefore, his plan was clear: the moment the Roberts Rebellion fully erupted and King's Landing descended into chaos would be the best time to return to Dragonstone and seize the "Blackfyre" sword.

Besides money and swords, there was one more thing crucial to his future dominion—dragon eggs.

With two years remaining before the war, Viserys must use this time to search for as many potentially existing dragon eggs as possible across the continent of Westeros.

Although the future Magister Illyrio of Pentos would gift Daenerys three dragon eggs as a wedding present after she married Khal Drogo.

Rumor had it that those were the three eggs lost by the Targaryen Family's "Dreamfyre" after she laid them, but he was highly skeptical.

Because the dragon eggs given by Illyrio were completely petrified, which better matched the characteristic of artifacts he himself claimed were "from the Shadow Lands beyond Asshai."

Therefore, the three dragon eggs truly lost by "Dreamfyre" might never have left King's Landing.

A strong intuition told him that they might be hidden beneath the ruins of the Dragonpit, which was once destroyed by rioters. He must find an opportunity to personally investigate the site.

Furthermore, there was another place where dragon eggs might be found, one even more worth exploring than the Dragonpit—Summerhall.

That was the ultimate nexus of the Targaryen Family's glory and tragedy.

Aegon V, "the Unlikely," gathered seven whole dragon eggs and held a ritual at Summerhall on that fateful day, intending to hatch dragons to stabilize his shaky kingship and to express his piety to the Seven Gods.

As a result, the wildfire went out of control, the cataclysmic flames consumed everything, claiming the lives of the King and countless noble members, and completely incinerating the Targaryen hope of resurrecting dragons.

However, based on speculation pieced together from forum analysis and fragments of the original book in his past life, unburnt dragon eggs might still be buried beneath the ruins of Summerhall! True Dragons do not fear fire; that is an iron rule.

As the origin of True Dragons, how could dragon eggs be easily destroyed by fire (even wildfire)? In Viserys's memory, the official Targaryen records never explicitly stated the whereabouts of those dragon eggs; they simply seemed to vanish into thin air.

This fact alone was highly suspicious.

Seven dragon eggs! The thought of finding them all was exhilarating. It would give Viserys an absolute head start in the future struggle for dominion.

Thoughts rushed in like a tide until Viserys had clarified the threads of the future one by one. A clear and grand blueprint was gradually forming in his mind.

He couldn't just daydream anymore; he had to act immediately.

Viserys took a deep breath, suppressed his excitement, and loudly called for the maidservants waiting outside in a slightly spoiled tone befitting his current age and status, ordering them to attend to his washing.

A new day, the day he took the first step to change his destiny, had begun.
