Chapter 8 - The plan

[Sky's Apartment - Late Night, Continued]

Rain sat on Sky's couch, trembling as the reality sank in.

Phayu wasn't just possessive—he was dangerous. Connected to a world Rain had never imagined.

"We need a plan," Sky said, his voice steady despite his own fear.

"A real one. You can't just text him 'we're done' and hope for the best."

Rain nodded, wiping his eyes. "What do I do?"

"First, we meet in public. That café near campus during lunch rush. Lots of witnesses." Sky grabbed a notebook, writing things down.

"Second, you keep it short. No long explanations, no justifications. Just 'This relationship is over, don't contact me again.'"

"He won't accept that."

"He doesn't have to accept it. Rain, you're not asking permission. You're informing him." Sky's eyes were fierce.

"Third, you block him everywhere immediately after. Phone, social media, everything."

Rain felt panic rising. "What if he comes to my apartment?"

"You don't go back there. Not tonight, maybe not ever. We pack your essentials tomorrow morning, and you stay here until you can leave Bangkok."

"I can't just abandon my life—"

"Your life isn't worth anything if you're dead," Sky interrupted harshly.

"Rain, listen to me. If Phayu is what we think he is, if his family is involved in organized crime, then he has resources we can't fight. The only way you win is by disappearing."

Rain's phone buzzed.

Another message from Phayu.

Phayu: I know you're at Sky's apartment. I know you're upset. But baby, whatever they told you about me, about my family—let me explain. Please. Give me one chance to make this right.

Rain's hands shook so badly he nearly dropped the phone.

"He knows I'm here. How does he know I'm here?"

Sky's face went pale.

He grabbed Rain's phone, examining it.

"When did Phayu last have access to your phone?"

"He's had access lots of times. Why?"

"Because I think he installed tracking software." Sky opened Rain's settings, searching.

"Here. See this app? It's disguised as a system update, but it's giving someone your location in real-time."

Rain felt bile rise in his throat. "How long has he been tracking me?"

"Based on the install date? About eighteen months."

Eighteen months. A year and a half of Phayu knowing exactly where Rain was at all times.

Every class, every coffee shop, every moment Rain thought he was alone.

"I'm going to be sick," Rain whispered.

Sky helped him to the bathroom, held his hair back as Rain vomited, rubbed his back as he sobbed.

"We're going to fix this," Sky promised.

"Tomorrow, we get you a new phone. New number. We pack your things while Phayu's at work. And then you leave."

"What about Pai?" Rain asked, the question surprising even himself. "He's been kind to me. Should I... should I tell him?"

Sky's expression was conflicted. "Rain, Pai is a Theerapanyakul too. He might be nice, but he's still part of that world. Can you really trust him?"

Rain thought about Pai's warm smile, his respect for boundaries, the way he never pushed.

"I don't know. But he feels different from Phayu. Like he actually cares."

"Or like he's a better manipulator," Sky said gently.

"I'm not saying he's bad, Rain. I'm saying we don't know. And right now, we can't afford to trust anyone connected to that family."

Rain nodded, even though his heart protested.

The thought of just disappearing without telling Pai felt wrong somehow.

[Phayu's Penthouse - Same Time]

Phayu replayed the audio recording from Rain's phone for the third time, his expression growing colder with each playthrough.

Rain was planning to leave. To "disappear." To break up with him in a public place and then run away.

And Sky was helping him. Sky, who had always been a problem, was now actively undermining Phayu's relationship.

Phayu made a series of calls. First, to his private security team. "I need surveillance on Rain. 24/7. I want to know every move he makes, everyone he talks to."

"Sir, he's already flagged in our system with GPS tracking—"

"I know about the tracking. I want physical surveillance too. Rotate teams so he doesn't notice the same faces. And I want Sky followed as well."

"Understood."

Next call: to his lawyer. "I need a legal strategy. If someone tried to leave me and make false accusations, what's my best defense?"

The lawyer hesitated. "Sir, are we talking hypothetically?"

"Just answer the question."

"Well, you'd need documentation that the relationship was consensual. Proof of the accuser's mental instability. Character witnesses. And ideally, evidence that they had ulterior motives—money, revenge, attention-seeking."

"Can you fabricate such evidence if needed?"

Another pause. "Mr. Theerapanyakul, I can't advise you to—"

"I'm not asking for advice. I'm asking if you can do it."

"...Yes. If necessary."

"Good. Stand by."

Phayu ended the call and pulled up the surveillance feed of Sky's apartment building.

He could see Rain's motorcycle parked outside.

His beautiful naive Rain who thought he could just walk away.

Phayu had been patient.

Had given Rain space like he asked.

Had played the understanding boyfriend.

But clearly, patience was being interpreted as weakness.

Time for a different approach.

He opened his messaging app, typing carefully.

Phayu: Rain, I love you. I know you're scared, and I know people are filling your head with lies about me. But I need you to know something: I would never hurt you. Everything I've done has been to protect you, to keep you safe. If you want to break up, I'll respect that. But please, give me one last conversation. Face to face. Let me explain everything, and then you can make your decision with all the facts. I owe you that much. You owe us that much. Tomorrow, 2 PM, at our spot in the park. Just you and me. Please, baby. For what we had.

He hit send, knowing Rain would see it as reasonable. As a fair request.

What Rain wouldn't know was that Phayu had no intention of letting him walk away from that conversation.

[Sky's Apartment - Morning]

Rain woke on Sky's couch to find his friend already awake, making coffee and toast.

"You slept three hours," Sky observed.

Rain checked his phone—partly from habit, partly from dread—and saw Phayu's message.

He showed it to Sky.

"It's a trap," Sky said immediately. "Rain, you can't go."

"It sounds reasonable though. One last conversation—"

"That's how they get you!" Sky's voice rose.

"He's making it seem like you're the unreasonable one if you refuse. But Rain, you don't owe him anything. Not conversation, not explanation, nothing."

Rain read the message again. "What if he's being genuine? What if this is really him trying to let me go peacefully?"

"Then he can accept your 'no' peacefully. You don't have to meet him to break up. Rain, please. My gut is screaming that this is wrong."

Rain's phone buzzed. Pai messaged.

Pai: Good morning. I hope you slept well. Would you like to grab breakfast? I found this great place that makes excellent coffee.

The contrast between the two messages was stark.

Phayu's was emotional manipulation wrapped in sweet words.

Pai's was simple and genuine.

"What do I do?" Rain asked, feeling torn in a dozen directions.

"About Phayu? You text him no. About Pai?" Sky hesitated. "That's your call. But Rain, remember—he's part of that world too."

Rain made a decision.

He texted Phayu first.

Rain: I can't meet you. This relationship is over. Please don't contact me again. I need you to respect my decision and leave me alone.

His finger hovered over 'send' for a long moment before he pressed it.

Then, before he could lose his nerve, he blocked Phayu's number.

The relief was immediate...

"I did it," Rain whispered. "Oh god, I actually did it."

Sky pulled him into a hug. "I'm proud of you."

Now Rain had to decide what to do about Pai's message.

----------

Phayu stared at Rain's text—delivered just before his number was blocked—and smiled coldly.

Rain thought he could just say no?

How adorable babee....
