Chapter 4 - System

Chapter 4: System

"Ugh…"

"Where… am I?"

Yu Chen's eyelids fluttered open.

Pain flooded his senses—deep, dull aches in his arms, his ribs, his legs. But beneath the pain was something else.

Warmth.

Life.

"I'm… dead?" he murmured hoarsely.

His gaze shifted.

The two zombies lay sprawled across the classroom floor, skulls crushed, bodies unmoving.

Silence.

"I'm alive…" Yu Chen whispered, disbelief shaking his voice.

---

He lowered his eyes to his arms.

Blood still stained his sleeves—but the wounds beneath were closing.

Before his eyes, torn flesh knit together. Bruises faded. The burning pain receded as if time itself were reversing.

"What… is happening?"

Then—

A faint glow shimmered in the air.

Lines of light gathered, forming a translucent panel that floated before him like a window made of stars.

Yu Chen's breath caught.

"This… I heard a voice before I passed out."

"The system…?"

The panel sharpened.

Yu Chen stared at the screen.

His heartbeat thundered in his ears.

"A… Unique class?"

His throat went dry.

"This isn't normal… This isn't like the games."

---

A voice echoed inside his mind.

Cold. Clear. Inhuman.

> [ Host detected. ]

[ Awakening confirmed due to extreme survival instinct and mental resilience. ]

Yu Chen spun around, eyes darting across the empty classroom.

"Who's there?!"

> [ Host achieved awakening through combat termination of infected entities. ]

"Infected… you mean those zombies?"

> [ Correct. ]

Yu Chen clenched his fists.

"So anyone who kills them can awaken?"

> [ Incorrect. ]

[ Most fail. Some require conditions. Few qualify. ]

His heart skipped.

So this wasn't luck.

It chose him.

---

CRACK—!

The classroom door shuddered violently.

A feral howl echoed through the corridor.

"Grrraaa—!"

Yu Chen's expression changed instantly.

"Oh no—!"

He had forgotten.

The zombies.

"I can't stay here," he muttered, forcing himself to stand. His legs trembled—but held.

"My sister… Yu Ming…"

"I don't even know if she's safe."

The glowing panel flickered once more.

> [ Warning: Host remains in high-risk zone. ]

Yu Chen inhaled deeply.

Fear was still there.

But beneath it—

Something new had awakened.

Resolve.

"If this system chose me," he said quietly, eyes hardening,

"then I won't die here."

He turned toward the shaking door.

"This time—"

"I survive."
