Chapter 9 - The Girl Trapped Within I

Is this on…?

Oh, ok. We're rolling.

This is update one? Entry one…? Ugh whatever… Alright.

My name is Lucen Rivers and I'm 18 years old. I'm currently a senior at Ridgepoint High School, located in the third district of Velstrea, Southwall and I live with Laura, my adoptive mother. She gave me this old school recording device thingy and said I should record updates like this and I think now's as good a time as any to finally start.

So… I currently suffer from memory loss.

I can't remember anything that happened to me before Laura took me in except my name. I also have no parents.

As the story goes, I was just 5 or 6 years old when she found me outside of her porch, starving and hurt. She fed me, took me to the hospital, and from there, she brought me in and raised me as her own. There was no trace of anyone that could've left me on Laura's porch and I can't recall where I came from or how I got there. As detectives and police told us, they can't find anything on any family of mine.

But yeah, Laura means everything to me and I uh… I wouldn't be here without her.

Let's see… around the time I was 9 years old, I met Khara Bennett. She's my neighbor and is also 5 years older than me. She's been a big sister figure to me since we met. She's also incredibly nosy just like Laura haha… but I know she cares about me. I'm also grateful to her as she's one of the few people I know I can always rely on.

Anyways, the reason I'm recording this right now is… well… recently my life changed. One thing Laura taught me which I still carry to this day is; to receive good things, I must do good things. This mentality though has got me caught up in some insane stuff.

From saving a woman, expecting her to fall for me to discovering I have superpowers that could've potentially killed me. Then finding out that devils exist? I know, right? What the hell? Then all of sudden, I somehow landed myself in some contract with a devil and suddenly I was being taken care of by these three devil sisters. Next thing I know, they took me to District 8, which is still nuts by the way because I didn't think I'd ever step foot there in my life, and I watched them kick a bunch of ass.

I don't know how my life will turn out from this point forward but I'll keep making more updates. Maybe I'll post this on YouTube and it'll blow up. Probably because people will think I'm insane, hahaha.

"Now Arriving at H-Station."

Oh shoot. Alright, time to wrap this up.

"Anddd done. I'll back this up just in case anything happens to the original recording."

Lucen got up out of his seat and exited the train.

"It's only been a day or two but it feels like I haven't been here in months for some reason. Alright, let's head home. Hopefully Laura hasn't ripped her hair out or anything."

~10 Minutes Later~

Knock Knock Knock

Lucen stood on the porch of a medium sized, grey colored house and knocked on the door a few times. An older, mature looking woman with blonde hair, opened the door. Laura Raine, 44 Years Old.

"Who is i- OH MY GOD LUCEN?!"

Laura immediately rushed out and wrapped Lucen in a tight hug.

"Where were you?! Are you okay?! Any scratches?! Any bruises?! Who did it to you?! I'll kill them! I swear I will!"

"Y-You're c-crushing m-me…!"

"Oh sorry!"

Laura let go of Lucen as he caught his breath.

"Come in. I need explanations!"

"Y-Yeah…"

They both walked inside and took a seat on the couch in the living room.

"Alright, now explain. I called the police and even they couldn't find you! I'll have to call off the investigators now…"

"(If I told her what actually happened, there's no way she would believe me..)"

"Uhh, so when I was walking home from school, my phone died and I missed the last train. So I took a different route than usual and went through an alley but I had a run in with some uh… thugs. We got into a fight but they got me good. Luckily, someone found me, brought me in, and took care of me."

"The investigators tracked your steps to that alley but any sign of where you could've gone after was cut off in a small space in that same alley! How?? And who was it that took you??"

"Uhhhhh. Shit."

"Language!"

"Sorry… um, would you believe me if I told you a devil took me…?"

"Lucen, I swear to God, this is not the time for jokes!"

"Sorry sorry… I uhh…"

"(Figured… Damn it! How do I get out of this?!)"

"Lucen… Please… Just tell me what happened to you… Do you know how scared I was when you didn't return home that night like you always do…? Your phone immediately went to voicemail and I had no idea where you were. The whole day passed and you still weren't back. I called the police to report you missing and they found where you last were but the trail ended there… They told me they would try to figure something out but they looked so uncertain…"

"Sorry…"

"I'm just… I'm just glad you're okay…"

Laura broke down crying. Lucen couldn't find the words to say.

"(Ughh, I feel like such a jackass... Here she was worried about me the whole time and I barely thought about her at all… I mean, I know a lot was happening and I couldn't help it but damn…)"

A few minutes passed and Laura eventually calmed herself. She took a long, deep breath.

"I'm happy you're back home, Lucen. Sorry for being such a big teary mess in front of you."

"It's okay, Laura. It's my fault. I should've tried harder to let you know I was fine."

Laura got up and wiped her eyes with a tissue.

"Alright! I think I should cook something good to celebrate your return!"

"Wait wait, are you going to…"

"Of course I am!"

"French Toast! Yesss!"

"While I cook, I think you should go next door and tell Khara you're okay. I'm not the only one that's been worried sick, you know?"

"Uhh yeah. I'll do that."

Lucen, before leaving out, ran to his room and put his phone on the charger. He then left and ran across the street to Khara's house.

Knock Knock Knock

A few moments passed.

Knock Knock Knock

"Coming!", a voice rang out from behind the door.

"Sorry, Ms. Raine, I was getting ready to leave for wor- L-LUCEN?!"

"Oh no, not agai-"

Lucen, once again, got trapped in a very tight hug.

"Yes yes, I'm a-alive…! You can let me go now…!"

"Shut up! What is wrong with you?! Do you know how worried Laura was?! How worried I was?!"

"I'm s-sorry, j-just let me go…! I can't b-breathe…!"

"Good! You deserve this for disappearing without a word and just suddenly showing up at my doorstep!"

Khara eventually let Lucen go.

"Where were you??"

Lucen took a moment to catch his breath again.

"I got into a fight with some thugs on the way home. Someone took care of me after and helped me recover. My phone died before that happened though so I couldn't reach out."

"So why didn't you come back home right after?? You were gone for nearly two days!"

"Uhm, their place was a good distance from here. I left after I recovered."

"And you didn't think to call to tell us you were fine?!"

"Uhh, they didn't have a charger…"

"I seriously don't know what to do with you sometimes… At least you're back in one piece though. Next time, please try to let someone know where you are. You're 18 now but you know Laura will always see you as her boy and when you suddenly just go missing like that, she won't take it well."

"Heh, just like you? You both practically had the same exact reaction. Might as well start calling you mom too, huh?"

"Do you want to actually disappear this time…?"

"No mam. Sorry mam. By the way, you're about to go to work?"

"Yeah, it's 1:40 right now. I usually arrive at the office at 2."

"How's work been lately?"

"Not bad. I've finally convinced my boss into investigating the area of the kidnapping cases."

"Kidnappings? Where?"

"You know the park near the shopping mall? About 10 minutes away?"

"Oh yeah, I've been there like once or twice. People are being kidnapped there? This is the first I'm hearing of this."

"There've been ten reports of people going missing in that park. Two of them from cops that were also investigating. We managed to get close to the park to scope it out but we couldn't find anything."

"Wait wait, isn't that kind of dangerous if even two police officers went missing? Is that not like a giant red alert to stay away? Why would you still go?"

"Because, there's a chance there could be devils involved."

"Devils?!"

"Yes, I know I sound crazy but there's something supernatural that exists here. I read a book and learned about these devils which sound very similar to what I saw when my father was murdered."

"Wait what?! Murdered?! But wasn't it suicide?!"

"I couldn't say anything about it before. I had no proof or evidence that it was anything other than suicide. I had no choice but to let everyone believe that happened. But then this case popped up. This might be my only chance of proving that devils do exist. My only chance to prove that my father didn't kill himself."

"So you're telling me that your dad was murdered?? But how are you sure it's a… uh… devil…?"

"I saw them right before they disappeared. There was a red circle that appeared on the floor where they were. Then poof, they were just gone."

"(That sounds exactly like… Holy crap… That definitely was one. I have to tell Lia about this. If she's right and these cases are also linked to a devil and from what I've already seen, she's walking right into a danger zone. But should I tell her what I already know of devils? I think she would believe me if I told her what actually happened to me. I'd feel wrong keeping this from her when it's about her dad…)"

"Hey, so I actually-"

"Oh shoot! It's almost 2:00! Sorry, I have to get going or I'm going to be late!"

"Wait! It's impor-"

"I'll see you later, Lucen! Bye!'

"Ah."

Khara rushed out with her bag and Lucen walked back home.

~An Hour Later~

"(Oh my God, that was so good.)"

Lucen walked back into his room after eating French Toast and drinking a nice cold glass of apple juice.

"(Phone should be charged now.)"

Lucen picked up his phone and turned it on.

"(Let's see… Ah.)"

Lucen's phone was bombarded with missed calls and texts from Laura and Khara as well as some of his friends from school.

"Ugh…"

After about 15 minutes of sending texts to his friends, reassuring he was fine, Lucen flopped onto his bed.

"(Wow, definitely feeling the difference from the bed back at that mansion… Man, these last few days have worn me out. I'll just take a quick… nap…)"

Lucen dozed off. A few moments later he, for the third time, found himself in the white room.

"Here we go again… I need to do something different. If the room is going to go black whenever I move, I'll just stay right here and see what happens."

Lucen looked around for the girl and sure enough, she was there, sitting while staring off into the distance.

"Hey!"

"!"

Lucen shouted out to her and caught her attention. She jumped up, surprised.

"Wait! Don't move! For some reason, whenever I get closer to you, the room goes black!"

The girl stopped in her tracks. It was there that Lucen could fully take in her appearance for the first time.

"Holy hell…"

Her appearance looked completely different and surreal. Even more so compared to Lia and her sisters. Her long hair, similar to theirs, was completely white although no black streaks anywhere. Her eyebrows and eyelashes, white. Two white irises that looked similar to a white moonstone. Her sclera though, were completely black. Her face and skin were even more pale than the Azaroth's. Despite all of this, her face, height, and appearance looked young. Potentially around the same age as Lucen.

"Hey! So who are you?!"

From the distance, he could see her mouth moving but he couldn't make out anything she said.

"You have to speak louder!"

She continued to try and speak but Lucen couldn't hear her at all.

"(Damn it… How can I get closer without the room randomly turning dark… Maybe I'll try this.)"

"Alright! I want you to listen to me! On my count, we'll move very slowly at the exact same time, each time I say step, okay?!"

The girl nodded.

"Okay! Step!"

Both Lucen and the girl moved a foot forward and slowly moved in sync.

"(Alright… no sign of the room changing.)"

"Step!"

They both took another step, making sure not to move too fast.

"(We're looking good...)"

"Step!"

Lucen and the girl continued to move on Lucen's signal, slowly getting closer. The room showed no signs of changing. They kept moving until eventually, they were finally only a few feet apart.

"(I can't believe that worked. I pulled that idea out of my ass...)"

"Hi…"

"Yo. So now that I've met the girl that's been appearing in my dreams and I've passed the trial of the randomly dark-turning room, do I receive a wish or something?"

"Dream…?"

"Huh?"
