Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: A bad dream

She was impartial to when she woke up, most of the time at least.

If she could wake up late, she would wake up late, if she had to wake up early she would wake up, albeit begrudgingly.

But basically it meant that she was a bit annoyed that she woke up this early.

And how couldn't she be, when she opened her eyes, it was still dark out.

The sun was well under the horizon and her roommate was asleep.

It was that odd moment where it was both night and dawn at the same time, where you knew the sun would soon rise and gaze upon the land.

But it felt like it would take hours just for the even smallest bit of sun to grace her eyes.

And when she closed her eyes to go back to sleep… she simply couldn't.

So, she knew, she knew as much as she was sure that she was going to prank McQueen again today, that she wouldn't fall back asleep.

So, after a bit of sulking she got up quietly and made sure not to wake her roomie, who seemed oddly at peace, and was smiling.

She must be having a nice dream, then.

'Eh, well, nothing better to do than to get ready while I still can, best case scenario, I can prank Hope,' so, with a smile on her face she went to the bathroom to get ready.

The water was cool and relaxing on her skin as she applied the warm water, so much so that she couldn't help but have a small smile on her face.

…

After exiting the bathroom she spotted a letter on the floor.

"A letter?" She whispered in confusion, her eyes set on it, it wasn't there when she went to bed, and it wasn't the one that she had helped smuggle in. So who could have made it? Where did it come from? What could be its contents?

All these questions and more raced inside her head, so in a bout of curiosity she took the letter, ignoring the fact that it may be for her roommate on account of her ever increasing popularity, so…

With the most caution she could use she opened the letter, which was, as expected, addressed to her roommate, and read it.

 "Dear, Hope for Tomorrow,

Your radiance outshines that of the most brilliant and large stars of the night sky.

Truly, only the radiance and calm serenity of the moon can match a fraction of your perfection."

She paused as she was reading the letter.

The way it was written… the calligraphy… the pace… the flowery language… the words which were chosen with such care… it all pointed to one person.

"Orfevre…" her sister.

She knew that her sister, like everybody else in the family, had a crush on a girl with white hair who she had met in the forest around their uncles house, but to see that she was, as Helios would put it, 'down bad' for her roommate was… well it was surprising, but… she carried onward and continued to read.

"Out of all who walk on the earth your beauty, your mannerisms, your smile… they all shine so brilliantly.

So, congratulations, oh god given beauty," She took it back, her sister was down horrendous, "For that performance on the track, for your complete and utter domination of all who dared to stand opposed to you.

Truly, no other could match you, so,

Heres to you,

Hope for Tomorrow."

From: A secret admirer.

In her opinion the admirer wasn't much of a secret but who was she to say anything, so with a sigh she carefully folded the letter and put it back in the envelope before sealing it once more and placing it on the desk.

With a tired sigh she looked outside and saw that the sun was starting to rise, she considered what she could do.

She could go and do some morning training?

But… that would require her to train more than strictly necessary.

Or… she could go and annoy her trainer.

And in between both options she would much rather torment her trainer than ever think of training willingly.

So she left the dorm, but not before shooting a glance at her roommate.

Her face was strained and stressed, she opened her mouth to say something but each time she did no words came out.

But, she recognized what she was trying to say.

"I'm sorry."

Those same words she couldn't help but say after her first mock race.

She paused for a moment and looked at her roommate, she was shacking now, she was visibly having a nightmare, gone was her peaceful and joyous dream, now all that she had was the complete opposite.

So with a sigh, she decided to give up on her idea of tormenting her trainer and decided instead to be there for somebody who was not only a teammate, but a friend.

…

She was having that nightmare again, but it was different.

Instead of seeing her house and family burn because of her mistake, she was running.

Endlessly running towards that house, towards her family burning.

She could hear them.

"It's your fault." Her father said.

I'm sorry.

"Why did you do this?" Her mother asked.

I'm sorry.

"You burned us." Her father said.

I'm sorry.

"This is all your fault." Her mother stated.

I'm sorry.

"Why did you live when we didn't?" They both asked.

I'm sorry…

"Why did you have to run?"

… I'm… I'm… I'm… I'm… I'm so sor—

A hand touched her shoulder.

…

She gasped out in a panic and grabbed the closest thing she could.

It just so happened that what she grabbed was Gold Ship's arm, while the owner of the offending limb was grinning down at her with a shit eating grin.

"Good Morning!"

She looked at her in a state of shock and confusion, before she meekly responded, "G-Good morning, Gold Ship-san."

Oddly enough her roommate stilled at the use of "-san" of all prefixes, she was going to ask her why before she felt something be pushed into her hands.

"Guess who got a letter in the middle of the night?"

She pondered the question for a moment before coming to the obvious conclusion that her roommate wanted to show off the fact the she had gotten a letter to her for whatever reason.

"Are you seriously showing off your letter first thing in the morning?"

"My letter?"

"Yes, your letter."

"But, it's yours…"

"Huh?"

"The letter is yours, can't you see?" She pointed to an area that clearly stated, 'To: Hope for Tomorrow'.

"I… I uh."

Before she could say anything more Gold Ship suddenly turned around and started to walk off.

"Where are you going?"

"To annoy our trainer."

"But why?"

"Why not?"

She opened her mouth to say something but paused. She… she really couldn't think of anything, huh.

That was a first.

"Well," her roommate started, "I'll leave you alone now, mostly so that you can spend some time on that letter of yours," She opened the door and took a step through before waving her hand at her, "See you later."

"See you later."

After a couple seconds of silence she opened the letter and started to read it, after reaching about halfway she had to fight off a fierce blush that only got worse after she finished reading it.

Authorsnote

not much to say except that this chapter felt longer to write for some reason.

KCD1 is peak fiction (I'm not even halfway through yet)

I managed to scrounge together enough carats for kitasan.

But… I am very much so angry at the fact that Netflix is fumbling! the peak that is Steel Ball Run, like what is their game, man!

It's not weekly episodes!

We don't even know when the next episode is coming out!

I swear!

Was jojo's cursed or something when it was acquired by Netflix?

Either way, that's all from me,

this is GreekAntrielos, signing off.
