Chapter 2 - Poison

"Is she okay?" Someone ran up to the man who was now holding the woman in his arms. He smiled as the crowd started around them. He did not want the attention there with them. He wanted to make sure the woman was fine, but he did not want people to see him.

"She is fine. Just something didn't agree with her. I will make sure she gets home. All will be right with the world tomorrow." He chuckled as he then walked out of the building and looked up to the skies, "A little help here would nice."

Soon a few flashes of light were in the nighttime sky almost as if lightning were happening on the warm summer day. Though he knew that was his help he had requested. Normally, he would not intervene with human issues. However, this time, he knew it was different. Although he had no idea how this was, he could just feel it in his marrow. He had not ever had the chance to see this person before, but it was instantaneous that he knew exactly what she was. He had to wonder if she knew. She did not seem to really know who she had shared a drink with moments before. So he had to guess she did not know who or what she was either. So many of the mixed kinds did not know about themselves and the fact they were there.

He did not like humans all that much. He had only been there as a witness to the newest wedding of the bride. She had many of them in her lifetime. All with unsuspecting humans that she could somehow get under her spell. She was one that they had been watching over for thousands of years. Known for her way to drain a man of everything he had held dear. She also knew how to do so without crossing the very few boundaries that would make his kind get involved. Although she did often walk that line, but she never stepped over it. He shook his head as he realized the person in his arms had not moved the entire time she had been in his arms. He had to wonder how she had been poisoned so well and not even know it. It had to have been the drink she had. That was the only thing that would make sense to him.

"What do you have there, Gabe?" one of his brothers appeared in front of him. Michael was the one who often found himself with extra human baggage. Not Gabriel. This was completely unlike him. However, he knew that he had to help this creature. It was calling to him in his own blood.

Blood.

That was what was affecting her like this. Of course. "She has been dosed with a vial of Demon's blood." He could hear the anger in his own voice. It was thundering around them. His brother looked at him and grinned. He could see something in his younger brother that he had never seen before. There were emotions there that not many of their kind would show. It was a nice thing to see that Gabe was evolving even though it had taken so long for him to do so.

"If they are human, you know there is nothing we can do to intervene." Michael sighed. That was the divine truth. They could not interfere with the grand scheme of things when it came to the humans. It could have an impact like no other. Another cosmic war would be started and this time no one could be sure of the outcome, since the humans would be involved.

"She isn't human." Gabriel roared. "Can you not feel her energy? She is one of the fallen, I think. At least partly anyway."

"Would that not still be one of the humans?" Michael asked. "The Nephilim are not to be touched, either. You know the rules. They are there to be followed even if we do not like it. The creator would not like it and there would be punishments."

"She is more." Gabriel said as he could feel her energy pulsing around them though she was limp in his arms. "If you don't help me, I will find someone who will. For some reason, this creature was raised here on this plane. I do not know why, but I do know I was placed in her path for a reason. She was poisoned at Carisska's newest wedding. She is going by another name now, at least for the human she married. This one was involved somehow. If Carisska wants her dead, then there is a reason to save her."

"I don't know if that is the way it works." Michael chuckled at his brother and his logic. However, he could feel the energy around them and there were familiar aspects to it. This tiny woman in front of him in his brother's arms was from an ally of blood. He could feel that much. He knew then despite the other things she was she did have to be saved or there would be hell to pay. Though saving her, there would also be hell to pay. "Fine, I do feel her energy. She does need to be saved. Go to your house here. I will send those who will help."

"Thank you." Gabriel said as he moved quickly. No human could actually see them now as he moved faster than their eyes could process. He wondered if she even knew. If she knew anything at all about what she was and how she came to be. It would be an interesting story. Though most of her was light based, he could also feel the surrounding darkness. Carisska must have as well. That demon was always up to something. She was always a few steps ahead in many ways but she would not continue to do this to others. She could have the man. She would not take someone who was innocent, though. Gabriel could not allow that to happen.

This small creature in his arms might actually be the newest target of the demon and not the man she had married. There was a sadness around the woman in his arms. She was in pain. He could not tell if it was from the poison, or it was something deeper. Gabriel did not pretend to understand humans or the way they were different from him. However, the pain that came from her almost seeped into his body as well. He would have to figure out why she felt this way. Time would have to tell.

He had it. He hoped she did as well. An avenging angel who didn't often care for any life was now very concerned about this creature. This one creature that he was not even sure of was somehow important to him. Things were going to be very different from now on. He opened the door and then placed her down on the bed that was never used. He did not require sleep like a human would. He knew that he could never lose his place as a watcher. He had to stay watching. That was his purpose in life. The only thing he was really good at. He could see nearly everything and had over time.

The demons had been prowling a lot more lately. He wanted to find out why. Though what the humans believed of them all was often wrong. He knew he was not perfect. He knew that many mistakes had been made along the way. One of those mistakes was there in front of him. To have a hybrid of the creatures that she was could never be good. They often had many more internal mental issues as the pieces of themselves were fighting with each other. It would and could drive people insane. He had seen it too many times before.

A lot of the humans seemed to suffer from some part of it. He had to wonder how many of the demons had mated with humans. That was one of the reasons he was there on the plane's surface. He was doing research on the humans and to watch over the ones he knew were touched by the darkness. It was only one way he could help protect the frail creatures they were. He was their guardian, in a way. Most of the others like him had mostly given up their posts that the creator had made for them and become lazy in their doings with the human race they still thought was beneath them.

This one in front of him though was not frail though she looked at it at the moment as she lie there on the bed not moving. Her heartbeat was strong still. He could hear it as he focused. The fact she had survived this long only confirmed his thoughts that she was a mix of things. Things that could drink the blood of a demon and still live. There were not many of them.
