"Thank you, Thomas," she replied with her usual calm and a manufactured composure. "This is truly wonderful."
Violet began to wander through the apartment, touching the marble with her fingertips and feeling the quality of the fabrics. Joy danced in her depths because she now owned property of this magnitude, but she never let it show on her face.
She wasn't the type to scream or jump with joy; instead, she maintained her coldness as if he had gifted her a simple bouquet of flowers rather than multi-million dollar real estate. It was precisely this coldness that drove Thomas to the brink of insanity; the more he did the impossible for her, the less he found the explosive reaction he was used to from other women.
This pushed him, every time, to gift her more expensive and precious things, craving to see even just once a look of genuine awe in her eyes.
