Chapter 47 -  Chapter 46 Mecha Manufacturing

"This one's fine!"

Lin Xuan noted down the mecha's serial number and followed Xu Xiaoyan back to the warehouse entrance.

"Hummingbird! You have a good eye. This mecha would be worth at least four million outside,"

Xu Hao said to Lin Xuan, a smile playing on his lips. Looking at the mecha's specifications, a hint of reminiscence crossed his eyes.

"Alright! I'll go get the paperwork done for you. Xiaoyan, you can take him to see other places first."

Xu Hao closed the warehouse. After speaking to the two of them, he turned and left.

Piloting a mecha requires registration with the Federation; otherwise, it's illegal.

"Let's go! I'll show you the mecha manufacturing process,"

Xu Xiaoyan said to Lin Xuan after a moment's thought. There wasn't much else to see in the factory besides this one.

Next, Xu Xiaoyan led Lin Xuan through the entire mecha production workshop, finally taking him to a studio.

"I'm exhausted! Lin Xuan, let's rest for a bit!"

Xu Xiaoyan slumped into a chair, panting heavily.

"Let's wait here then! No need to look around."

Lin Xuan found a place to sit down. This place mainly produced standard white and yellow-level mechs, basically an assembly line operation.

"Is this a mech manufacturing workshop?"

Lin Xuan looked around the workshop and asked.

"Yes! This is my second uncle's workshop. He sometimes comes here to test mechs,"

Xu Xiaoyan nodded in reply.

Xu Hao was not only a mech manufacturer but also a mech designer. His black mech was designed and built by himself.

After sitting for a while, Lin Xuan got up and looked around the workshop.

The walls were covered with marked mech design drawings, and there were several small machine models on the workbench.

"Is this the Soul Guidance Array?"

Lin Xuan picked up a piece of engraved material on the table and examined it carefully.

This piece was made of a piece of thousand-refined aquamarine gold, emitting a faint blue light, with faint, fine lines visible on it.

These patterns are like the blood vessels and meridians in the human body, fully mobilizing the spirituality of the aquamarine gold itself.

If forging is like bringing out the spirituality of a piece of metal, like a newborn baby, then this part in his hand is like guiding this baby through the array patterns, allowing it to learn the rules of this world and forge its own personality.

"Spirit-Nourishing Array..."

Lin Xuan glanced at a notebook spread out beside him, which contained annotations and insights about this part. Putting down the part in his hand, Lin Xuan didn't dare to flip through it randomly, but only observed this page of the notebook from a distance.

After a long time, Lin Xuan came back to his senses. Compared with forging, besides talent, mecha manufacturing seemed to require a vast amount of knowledge.

"Xiao Yan! The things in this..."

Lin Xuan turned to Xu Xiao Yan and said, but before he could finish speaking, he found that Xu Xiao Yan had fallen asleep on the table at some point.

  Lin Xuan: ...

He wanted to ask Xu Xiao Yan if he could use one of the blank parts in this notebook. After looking at this page of the notebook, Lin Xuan suddenly had a feeling.

He wanted to confirm his guess.

"This scrap should be fine, right?"

Lin Xuan's eyes swept over the parts on the table; he definitely couldn't touch anything on them. He walked to the waste bin behind the workbench and picked out a small piece of aquamarine gold scrap.

This piece of aquamarine gold was rhomboid in shape, clearly a cut-off edge.

Lin Xuan used his sword to smooth out its irregular protrusions, then sat down and began carving according to the notes with his knife.

With each stroke, the aquamarine gold emitted a blue light, the soft glow rising and falling, like the breathing of metal.

Unconsciously, Lin Xuan became immersed in carving, the spirituality contained within the aquamarine gold being stirred and shaped little by little. As a spirit-level blacksmith, the spirituality of this aquamarine gold was extremely obvious to him.

  "Hoo!"

Lin Xuan exhaled deeply, and with the last stroke, the array patterns on the aquamarine gold connected into a whole, and a pale blue halo immediately bloomed, the radiance converging and rotating towards the center of the array patterns, like a nebula.

[Mech Manufacturing: Level 1 (1/300)]

As expected!

Ignoring the system, Lin Xuan had a sudden realization.

The most important aspects of mecha manufacturing are actually twofold.

The first is understanding the spirit of the metal; each piece of metal is a different life, requiring the manufacturer to specifically modify the inscribed magic array.

The second is the extremely high precision required of the manufacturer in inscribing the array lines; a slight error can lead to disastrous consequences, much like swordsmanship.

Fortunately, he possessed both.

"Have you studied mecha manufacturing?"

A calm voice came from behind Lin Xuan; Xu Hao had quietly appeared behind him.

"Excuse me!"

Lin Xuan quickly stood up and apologized. Touching someone else's things, even if it was just scrap, was still impolite.

"It's alright! These aren't worth much. Lin Xuan, did you study mecha manufacturing before?"

Xu Hao waved his hand and asked again.

He had actually arrived half an hour ago, but seeing Lin Xuan inscribing the magic array, he was surprised and didn't want to disturb him.

"No! I'm a blacksmith,"

Lin Xuan shook his head and said.

"Oh, I see! What a pity..."

Xu Hao sighed regretfully. Since he was a blacksmith, he couldn't invest too much in mecha manufacturing, and forging required a lot of effort.

Otherwise, he would have wanted to take Lin Xuan under his wing. Although it was Lin Xuan's first time inscribing a magic array, the effect was much better than that of an apprentice who had been immersed in it for years.

"This notebook contains some of my insights on mecha manufacturing, so I'll give it to you!"

Xu Hao thought for a moment and handed the notebook on the table to Lin Xuan.

Although he couldn't take him on as an apprentice, he could cultivate his interest. Lin Xuan was still young, and what if he changed his mind later?

"Uncle Xu, this..."

Lin Xuan said embarrassedly, but Xu Hao interrupted him directly.

"It's nothing, I have no use for this."

Nowadays, the young people in the Xu family are not interested in mechas and are unwilling to spend time on them, so this notebook would just gather dust.

"Then thank you, Uncle!"

Lin Xuan accepted the notebook and bowed slightly in gratitude.

"That's right! If you have any questions about this in the future, you can come to me anytime."

Xu Hao smiled after Lin Xuan accepted the notes, then handed him a document and a glass ball.

"This is the mecha's registration document, and the mecha itself. This mecha containment soul guide is also for you."

"Thank you!"

Lin Xuan nodded and took the glass ball, inside which was a bluish-white mecha.

"It's nothing! This is what you deserve. Okay, let's go! Xiao Yan is getting more and more out of line, sleeping there alone and leaving our guests here."

  "Lin Xuan! Goodbye!"

At the school gate, Xu Xiao Yan waved to Lin Xuan, then got into her car and disappeared at the intersection.

Watching Xu Xiao Yan leave, Lin Xuan hummed a little tune as he returned to school.

This time, he not only obtained a yellow-grade mecha, but also gained an extra skill.

He had been worried recently that continuing to grind forging was becoming somewhat pointless, so expanding his skills was a good idea.

Even if he didn't develop in the direction of mecha in the future, it would still be very helpful for battle armor manufacturing.

After all, no matter how talented others are in design and manufacturing, they can't understand you as well as you do. The battle armor they design certainly won't perfectly showcase your strengths.

As for biting off more than you can chew, Lin Xuan doesn't have that problem.

This chapter might feel a bit abrupt, but too much buildup for this trivial matter would make it feel padded. It's probably better if everyone just treats it as the protagonist finding this secret manual on the roadside; it's just a prelude to unlocking a skill later.
