Ostin Hengst decided to take his beautiful family of three to the amusement park to celebrate his daughter's thirteenth birthday, he didn't have much but he would do anything to see his beautiful daughter smile. That's why he took a loan from the mafia to buy a house so that his daughter can have her own room.
He couldn't pay it back so he moved to a different state thinking he had escaped.
The day came to a beautiful end for the birthday girl and it was time to head home before the rain started.
"Mama, it's going to rain soon."Matilda said.
"Yes honey, that's why we need to hurry and get to the subway." Sonya said as she held Matilda's hand while Ostin held the other one.
There was something dangerous about the darkness in their usual path.
They thought they were alone when two broad figures in ski-masks appeared from the bush in their path.
Ostin put his arm protectively in front of his family.
"You knew this day would come. Boss doesn't play." The first figure said.
The Hengst family held their hearts in their hands as two guns were pointed towards them.
It happened so fast, one loud bang in her mom's direction and one loud boung in her dad's direction. Followed by the retreating footsteps of the two men.
" Mama!papa!" The little girl yelled at the dropping corpses.Her father's soul had already left his body. She quickly reached for her mom's stretched hand and clasped on it hoping help would come.
"M-Mati... I'm sorry. Mama and Papa can't be with you...we are going to a better place...we love you..." Matilda watched as life drained from her mother's body and her eyes became empty.
Bitter tears flowed down her Rosy cheeks as she glared in the direction where the two monsters had disappeared in. She eventually passed out right between her parents.
She was woken up by a beeping sound, flowers were placed next to her bed. A nurse came in to check on her and that's when the memories of the previous night came flowing in.She broke into loud sobbing, the nurse did not hesitate as she quickly moved to where Matilda was and placed her arms around her in a comforting way."You are going to be okay darling. They are in a better place now. Don't cry... you are going to be fine." She tried her best in reassuring her.
"They're in a better place now." She whispered to herself as she gently broke away from the nurse's embrace.
She was discharged from the hospital three days later and the police took her to attend her parents funeral. She didn't know anyone else apart from her mom and dad. Not even her classmates showed up and no one dared to talk about investigation. It seemed that everyone was holding a shared dark secret and a similar fear.
She stepped forward and knelt between her parents graves. "I'll survive... don't worry about me."
In attendance was the director of the orphanage, Mr. Mickels.He offered to take her in .
A new chapter was beginning in Matilda's life. She stared out of the car window and clatched at her dad's necklace around her neck as she watched all the familiar buildings fall behind them.She was all alone.
" We've arrived." Mr. Mickels announced after a five-hour drive. To him it was a normal occurrence of bringing in a new orphan, but for Matilda, she was stepping into a new life of uncertainty.
