Su Yun checked the time. "Dinner's ready," she said. "Tell them to wait. Once it's time, they can light the firecrackers, then wash up and come in to eat."

Qin Jiao thought about how the firecrackers would be deafeningly loud later, which made her think of the myna bird Mr. Du kept hanging in the corridor. 'Won't that be enough to scare the feathers right off the poor thing?'
She hurried outside, only to see Shen Yi taking down the myna bird's cage.
The myna had become quite the character. Who knew who it learned from, but it was shouting, "Brother! Brother! Congrats! Congrats!"
"Pfft!" Qin Jiao couldn't hold it in and burst out laughing.
Shen Yi turned, saw it was her, and said with a sigh, "Jiao Jiao, are you making fun of me again?"
"Yesterday you were dueling with a goose, and today you're teasing a bird. You sure have a way with animals."
