Claire Sinclair's heart felt like it had been viciously lashed. She was on the verge of wavering, but the memory of last night's humiliation forced her to harden her resolve.
"You asked me before how I felt about you, and I'll give you the answer now. I feel the same way about you as I did about Logan Linden—it's just dependency. Look, I didn't shed a single tear when he cheated on me. And after we went our separate ways last night, I didn't cry either. Not one tear."
As she finished, she even gave a triumphant smile.
Even so, a voice inside her protested.
Adrian Quincy slowly looked up, his gaze meeting her clear, bright eyes. They were so pure that he couldn't detect any sign of a lie.
But he still refused to believe this was what she truly felt. 'She's not that kind of woman.'
"Claire, tears aren't a measure of how deep feelings run."
'...' 'Who the hell is talking about tears? That's not my point!'
