Anna fell silent and suddenly began to sob quietly.
Nate Jennings thought she'd made Anna cry out of indignation from the slap, so she got off her, pulled out a tissue, and offered it to her. "Hey, stop crying. I only hit you because I lost my temper."
Nate waved the hand holding the tissue. When Anna didn't take it, she moved to wipe Anna's tears for her.
Anna swatted her hand away and said angrily, "I'm not crying about that! I'm crying because you're misunderstanding Jasper! He's not the person you think he is. He felt terrible after you fell into the pond that day and even went to the hospital to apologize to you personally. After that, he was the one who recommended you to Faye and had you transferred to her department."
"He really recommended me?" Nate Jennings asked in disbelief. 'Could a self-important, arrogant psycho like Jasper really be that kind?'
