"Why don't you go home and sleep tonight? Of course, I wouldn't mind if you squeezed into this bed with me." Miles Xavier gave her two choices.
Joan Shaw glanced at the hospital bed. It wasn't very big—plenty of room for one man, but with his injuries, how could she possibly squeeze in with him?
She turned and looked around, then pointed to the nearby sofa. "I can just sleep there."
Although the sofa was spacious enough for a slender person like Joan Shaw, Miles Xavier couldn't stand to see her put through even the slightest discomfort.
"Someone!" he called out authoritatively.
The door to the hospital room opened, and a man immediately walked in. It was his new assistant.
"Take my wife home."
"Miles, I really can..."
"Be good. I can't bear to see you suffer."
Ignoring the other person in the room, the couple's conversation was a lethal dose of public affection.
