Seeing her face flushed like a pair of ripe peaches inexplicably lifted his spirits.
He took her hand and promised, "When we get back, you'll be in charge of disciplining those two. I absolutely will not interfere."
"Are you sure you can stand by and do nothing?" Joan Shaw was skeptical.
"I'm sure. Besides, you're a free woman now. If you feel wronged, you can leave at any time."
'That's right, she was a free woman now.' Those three words felt like an incredible luxury to her.
After a moment of thought, she nodded. "Yes, you're right. I can leave whenever I want."
But when she glanced at Miles Xavier again, a chill ran down her spine.
His eyes seemed to say, 'No matter where you run, to the ends of the earth, I'll always find you and drag you back.'
"Alright, time to get up. After breakfast, I'm taking you somewhere." Miles Xavier smiled faintly, pulling her into his arms and placing a soft kiss on her cheek.
Joan Shaw touched her cheek and smiled to herself.
