"Hah, Caleb Forrest. You didn't want me to go out and get a job for *my* own good?"
"I was at home doing laundry, cooking, and waiting on your mother. How was any of that easier than working?"
"We're already divorced, so stop with the nauseating comments. It makes you sound pathetic and childish."
As for the man Caleb Forrest was talking about, if thinking that way made him feel better, Grace Winslow wasn't going to bother correcting him.
'To trash, everything looks like trash.'
She didn't need to stoop to his level and explain.
Having gotten what she wanted, Grace Winslow turned and left.
When she returned and handed the IOU to May Callahan, May froze. "Why did you deliver the IOU? Did Caleb Forrest give you any trouble?"
"No. What right does he have to give me trouble?" Grace Winslow shook her head.
Seeing that Grace Winslow didn't seem to have been mistreated, May Callahan finally breathed a small sigh of relief.
