Carl Quincy and the others left after dinner. As was their custom, they all gave Holly Winslow red envelopes before they went.
Holly Winslow tried to refuse, but Mortimer Quincy's aunt ended up tearing her pocket in the process.
Once the car was far away, she showed it to Mortimer Quincy, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. Quincy the Moneybags swept out a long arm and declared magnanimously, "Go shopping. Go buy a hundred or so new outfits just to hold red envelopes."
Holly Winslow burst out laughing. "In that case, you might as well just buy me a burlap sack. I could go to your family's house during the holidays to collect them, and I probably wouldn't even need to work anymore."
That was no exaggeration. New Year's at the Quincy home was like receiving a year-end bonus, and the amounts grew every year. Brooke Jarvis and Andre Quincy, in particular, would just give her bank cards directly.
