For some reason, Annabelle Linton's heart grew heavy whenever the topic came up.
'...Maybe we really will be torn apart someday?'
She lowered her gaze and answered with a low, husky hum.
Seeing her sudden despondence, a sharp, fleeting pain pierced Leona Grant's heart—gone before he could grasp it.
"Annabelle Linton," he called softly, his voice low as he made a promise. "Trust me. We won't be separated."
Annabelle Linton forced down the strange sense of oppression in her heart and managed a smile and a hum.
Leona Grant gave her a soft kiss, then lifted her by the hips so she could wrap her legs around his waist. He carried her downstairs to eat.
Annabelle Linton wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head on his shoulder, looking for all the world like a little child.
The way they held each other was so incredibly sweet.
Leona Grant looked down at the top of her head, his eyes filled with a deep, unwavering tenderness.
