Cassian Jennings stood by the window, gazing outside as the image of the woman leaving the day before flashed through his mind.
A sudden fear gripped him. He was terrified. He knew her temperament all too well; she had stormed out in a rage yesterday. 'So,' he wondered, 'will she disappear again today, just like she did before?'
As Cassian was lost in thought, Gia Miller pushed open the bedroom door and stepped out. Seeing him standing there, staring into space, she frowned and called out softly, "Cassian…"
The sound of her voice snapped Cassian out of his daze. He turned to face her. "You're awake?"
"Mm-hmm. Cassian, thank you for saving me yesterday," Gia Miller said, her voice choked with emotion as she clutched the hem of her clothes, holding back tears.
Cassian offered a faint smile and reassured her, "Don't be silly. I don't think anyone could have just stood by and done nothing in a situation like that."
