"Of course not!" Sheldon Caldwell would never admit to that in front of Nathaniel Nathan. He sighed and said, "It's my mom. She's been in a bit of a mood, and I saw how well she and Vera get along, so I just wanted to cheer her up."
Nathaniel Nathan shot him a look, clearly not buying his explanation.
But Sheldon continued, "For years, my mom has been so engrossed in weapons research she can't pull herself away. As a result, she doesn't really have any close friends. She always shoulders her burdens alone, and I just don't want her life to be so hard. It would be good for her to have someone to talk to."
Nathaniel paused, slightly taken aback. He'd heard about Winter Sullivan's personality—she was the renowned "Iron Lady" of their circle. There was nothing wrong with that, but now that she was his mother-in-law, he couldn't help but feel a little invested.
