Behind Grandma's house was a large bamboo forest. In the forest lived an animal called the bamboo rat, whose meat was quite delicious.
Bamboo rats weren't easy to catch, but Grandma was an expert. She just didn't hunt them often now that she was older. After taking Vera Xavier into the forest, she came back with one in less than half an hour.
Vera Xavier had actually eaten bamboo rat in her past life, but this was her first time actually catching one. She was thrilled and chattered away with her grandma, holding her hand as they talked about this and that.
On the way, an acquaintance greeted Grandma and asked, "Whose lovely young lady is this? She's so pretty!"
"My granddaughter is beautiful, of course! Vera, this is Madam Archer," Grandma said with a smile.
Vera Xavier called out sweetly, "Hello, Madam Archer!"
