"I'm sorry for making you wait so long today. How about tomorrow we—"
"Have you resolved things at your company?"
Hannah Hale looked up at Nathan Redgrave, her eyes as clear as water, as placid as a lake without a single ripple.
Meeting her gaze, Nathan Redgrave hesitated for a few seconds before saying, "It's been resolved."
Hannah just smiled but didn't call him out on his lie.
"Here, let me help you put the necklace on."
"That's alright. The necklace is gorgeous, but it doesn't suit me."
Hannah placed the necklace back on the coffee table, looked up at Nathan Redgrave, and said, "Let's break up."
"Why break up all of a sudden?"
Upon hearing the two words, "break up," a pang of pain shot through Nathan Redgrave's heart.
Hannah picked up the throw pillow beside her and hugged it to her chest. She spoke calmly, "Sometimes with feelings, it really is first-come, first-served. I'm tired of chasing you. It's exhausting."
