"What was wrong yesterday?" Seth asked, noticing she had trailed off mid-sentence.
"Ah? Oh... it's just... when Sarah and I were shopping, I saw something that would look really good on you, but I wasn't sure if you'd like it, so I didn't buy it. I'll take you to see it when we have time. If you like it, we'll buy it."
Clara lied to him instinctively. Perhaps she was genuinely afraid of what Sarah had said—that if Seth found out, he would start reading too much into it and misunderstand her.
A wide smile spread across Seth's face. "I'll love it. As long as you're the one buying it for me, I'll love it. Next time you see something that seems right, just go ahead and buy it."
"...Okay."
Clara felt a pang of guilt over her lie. Not daring to linger on the topic, she quickly changed it.
"By the way, what ever happened with Brother Jennings going to find Poppy?"
